Ok lets get this out of the way. I support the Frost hire and it is early. He will turn it around eventually. I firmly believe this. However, I don't care what kind of crap talent or poor "culture" (apparently the big word of the moment) that Nebraska lacks, the discipline and lack of game prep is quite concerning through the first 3 games. For the last 6 quarters, the team had no interest in playing the game. Most of them quit and didn't give a crap about it. That is not having your team, regardless of the talent, not motivated or prepared to play the game. Many want to blame the culture, the players, Bo, Mike and everything on this. Part of this is true. However, the first 3 games have been some of the most poorly coached games that I have ever witnessed. Will it improve? I hope and think so. For now, coach Frost has a ways to go and nothing is a given. He was a good coach at his previous school. However, this is a whole new ballgame and I hope that he finally understands this.

While watching UCF’s D last year against several teams I wondered if it would be a rough transition... obvious lack of talent here... but with UCF’s talent they still struggled and gave up huge plays. A big difference is takeaways. Something Big Red is not getting at this point. Nothing to stop the big snowballing momentum we saw, especially on Saturday against Michigan. Offensively there is a huge lack of execution. Plain and simple we do not execute plays at even a mediocre level. I’m talking basic plays... it’s rough. I hope they find confidence and have some success against Purdue, or this season could really spin out of control.

The most important part of any team is the offensive line. A bad defensive line also sucks, but there are things a defense can do to compensate somewhat for that if they have good players at backer and safety. But a terrible offensive line ruins everything an offense tries. You could have an offense loaded with great skill people, but if the offensive line sucks they will do nothing.

Nebraska will continue to struggle until we restore our offensive line.

Agree. If you can at least compete along the off and def lines you have a chance to keep things from getting out of hand.

I just don’t understand how both of our lines got so bad. I have never seen (and I mean never) our offensive line look so inept, and I have never seen our defensive line pushed around like they were yesterday.

It is profoundly disappointing.

Agree. Maybe another year with duval will help, but if you look at our roster where is the help coming from? Our 2 guards and center are seniors - who replaces them?

Michigan’s off line is the weak point of their team and our d line was supposed to be a strength and we got man handled. Our LB play was atrocious which also makes the d line look bad

Michigan was also highly motivated by frosts 2016 comments about UCF being the more physical team despite getting their *** kicked

That is the disheartening thing. We don’t seem to have a lot of promising young guys in the pipeline at all. This is a rebuild that will take three years I think. But our offensive line recruiting doesn’t seem all that great right now either.

That is an interesting side story. But I doubt it had anything to do with that beat down.
And with regard to the offensive line.... our recruiting this year is underwhelming at first glance. Three guys that are three stars and one four star guy. I still think we need two more tackles. If we bring in six guys who have potential and develop them properly we can turn this around. But none of these recruits, so far, look like they are truly dominating type guys. Let’s hope that changes

If this game wasn’t a wake up call...then nothing will be. Our offensive line looked like they truly had no idea what they were doing. On the D line...Mich was was gashing us on the same side the entire game (Wonder what Wiscy and Iowa will go against us?)

SF is right. It can only go up from here. I believe that it will, and the first step is to recruit O-Line from JC ranks IMO.

The fact that the Michigan players were quoting this suggests that it was used. We get beat regardless ... but those are the type of things that when a team is up 23-0 in the first quarter keeps them playing at 10 level rather than 8 level.

I am probably bothered more than most when people run their mouths prior to accomplishing anything of substance or worse yet after getting completely dominated as in 2016

The Troy game really exposed just how bad our OL is. This piss poor play up front on offense really trickles down to all aspects of the game. It demoralizes our D when the offense can't perform jack. It's a huge problem for Frost. We're really lacking talent and depth there. That's the only position group that's gonna take a significant amount of time to rebuild. Duval has his work cut out with those guys. Maybe he can have them chase chickens like Rocky did and get some SPEED!

Riley recruiting classes were top 30 so how can the cupboard be that dry unless those rivals recruiting ranking are over-rated and biased to sell more subscriptions.

With this play, we were lining DBs on the line. This has to be fixed! We needed at least 2 more lineman. Needed more beef on the line, this was on Chin and was very unfair to our secondary.

average star ratings were about what we had under Bo, and with a smaller walk-on program with fewer chances to get lucky. Add in poor development and coaching, and an entirely new system.. and we have a team that isn't physical, isn't athletic, is designed for a soft-passing program, but doesn't have WR's who can catch consistently and who refuse to block downfield.

I do think we can play a lot better than we showed yesterday, but we need to get a win and go from there. This isn't ever going to be a great team, but we could be an OK team

I would like to know how they practice do they look like world beaters the come game time deer in the headlights look? I do know last year when decker took over he made way better line checks than Conrad and I hate bagging on him but he's not a good center. What is really puzzling to me is since the start of the second half of Colorado the offensive line has no fire no heart just going through the motions and that's a stretch. I think the defense is a improvement from last year but yesterday they were gassed and got out coached. It happens it happened to Charlie McBride. Could someone explain to me why the team wasn't fired up for Troy or Michigan my gawd this is Michigan in the big house if you can't get fired up to play them then leave the team let the youngster play cuz you as players don't give a ****

I think it is pretty clear that we must have been doing something on the line in the first half against CU that confused them. But once they adjusted to it at the half, it was all over. And it has been more of the same since then. This line just flat out sucks.
I think the team was fired up. But I also think they lacked confidence and played scared. They knew they were going to get their asses whooped.

in all fairness the LBs other than barry made our d line look a lot worse than they are. Not saying we are great there but its the LBs job to clean up.
fergeson or barry cant remember which had a TFL that was 100% the doing of freedom. He wont get the stat but caused the play. If it wou ld have been young behind him it woulda been td probably.

Signing only one offensive line recruit in the first recruiting class is another blunder by this staff. Unless they can find a couple more stud JUCO linemen to bring in for next year, the offensive line might actually be even worse next year.

I believe the coaches underestimated the lack of talent on the line. I believe they knew it was a issue but not this bad and on paper they probably look good but like coach chin said they need to see who steps up in a game and who pees their pants! The biggest issue for coach frost and staff is what to do now he's a fierce competitor he wants to win but the starters aren't getting it done so if he goes with a youth movement you might not win a game but they'll be in way better shape for next season. And all you people out there who want him fired bought out after 3 games understand coach frost is hurting more than any of us he care way more than clownahan, bozo or smiling mike show me the money

And Deontai Williams must loaf in practice. I don't care, we need some game day players. Deontai Williams is and Dedrick Young isn't.

Don't do it (JUCO route). This staff's BIGGEST recruiting weaknesses/misses at UCF were on JUCO OL/DL recruits...as some didn't even last a semester (some never made it to campus).

Go after I-A recruits...be it transfers from other schools (5th year grads who can play right away or transfers who might have to redshirt) and HS players...as JUCO recruits are the biggest risks of all. (Reason being, most are 2-3 years post HS...and most are recruited to START right away...and when you miss on a player like that...you know have 2 holes in your depth chart...one for starting and now you don't have any depth for the future).

Here Michigan is heavy on the 5 yard line and we have DBs on the line that get mauled

Look at Bootle and Honas on the left - good grief

Perfect example of what Bootle was doing all day. This was only a 5 yard run, but the other ones led to 50 yard runs.

That is awful. But at least Honas got blocked. Bootle looked like he just wanted to get lost in the pile so he wouldn't have to get anywhere near the RB.

Lots of busts and Riley's highest ranked O lineman during his time at NU left the program this year along with several of his other O line recruits. We HAVE to find some immediate help for the O line. I still think we have some young guys who can develop in to nice inside players but they're not there yet and we HAVE to land some at least one JUCO OT.
