Never thought I would become good friends with a few past UL players... Steven Van Treese and Perrin Johnson.

I used to dislike Treese as a player and always thought he was an ***. Dude is a stand up guy who respects people , down to earth, and who asks you how your family is. Perrin is laid back who loves to talk about bball, ex players, and how bball helped him in life.

As much as I hate UL these 2 guys are stand up gentlemen. Even my sons ask me how I hang out with UL players. Lol

Someone woke up and decided to name drop

only kidding OP. No reason to dislike people just because of what team they play for. An a-hole is an a-hole even if they play for Kentucky and a good dude is a good dude even if they play for Duke.

100% Drew

Couldn't post this thread without names.. Just respect who they are regardless of who they played for. A lot of great stories as well

Still lot of good people in this world even if they like some of the teams that we don't like. I don't watch the news that much anymore because they dwell on the bad stuff most of the time. I have met a lot of good people in my life and some are UL& Duke fans.

Years ago, a kid in my youth group got 1 phone call from Louisville. He was good and ended up graduating from Northwestern St. Kid asked me, Mr Shaver, what would you do if I did go to Louisville?

Kid, I'd buy your jersey and wear it like you were my son.

I can hate a school without hating a player.

Plus we live in Texas.

Did he happen to play on any of the Northwestern State NCAA Tournament teams? I remember watching them with D'or Fischer in 2001, then the last second upset over Iowa in 2006. I believe they last made the tournament in 2013. I liked watching those teams.

I used to work with a guy on Louisvilles Orange Bowl team. He was a really nice guy. Refused to take a picture with me at a company party because I was wearing a blue shirt which I thought was funny.

My brother was on the 2001 team, sat the bench. Levi, the kid was a freshman in 2011 or 2012

While I wouldnt consider us friends, Ellis Myles goes to my gym and we chat occasionally. Really friendly laid back guy even when I wear my UK gear.

I don't know any of them personally, but I like the vast majority of ex UL players far better than I do Rex Chapman.

Perrin Johnson reffed middle school games back in 2012 and was awful. He was also the biggest ******* any of us ever encountered in any basketball scenario.

Perrin seems like a good dude from what I’ve heard of him on the radio. Seems like an average guy that goes to work everyday.

As a former uofl athlete myself, there are quite a few of us. And some were UK fans growing up.

He still does ref.. I think he does a great job especially on the aau scene that I coach on. That was also 10 years ago so maybe he was a little trash.

Not directed at you ncaaky but 90% of the time it's the parents... 1 call can get everyone riled up for sure.. Most people don't realize that referees at times make early close judgment calls to see how people react...

In this case with Johnson, it was not the parents. Don’t know him and haven’t seen him since then, but he definitely left a bad impression that day.

Hung out with both of them numerous times and they both are class acts. Along with Luke Hancock, Peyton Siva, Kyle Kuric, Chris Redman, Eric Wood, etc. Great guys and family men who care about their communities.

I might despise the Loserville and Dook programs, but I’m not going to “hate” a player simply for playing for those schools. Hate is a very strong word under any circumstance, especially something this trivial. Far too much of it in this world.

The players from UK and UofL don't hate each other, and most of em are good people.

I was chatting Ellis Myles (who is super nice) a few years back and he told me that at the end of the day, most of the players from both schools came from poor backgrounds and that they root for each other to succeed.

my buddy gets U6 tix occasionally from his brother and he'll take me along every now and then. out of politeness, i don't openly root for U6 to lose, but I think they notice me trying to be scrupulously fair. As an aside they know i am by heart very partisan, and am never scrupulously fair over anything. :)
