Sooooo back to the cure can’t be worse than the disease analogy....

That’s the point we’re making.
It could get like that without focusing on the virus too. Sick people cant work, police, fight fires, treat the sick, drive the buses, teach the kids, drive the cabs, make the food, take the trash, count the money, etc.....

We are all not going to be on lockdown forever. Psychological test have been done in this. It's not sustainable even if this had a 20 % death rate. The goal is for all states to prepare their systems for what's coming. Most people didn't know what social distancing was two weeks ago.

You get that all we’re doing right now is trying to ensure we can handle this from an infrastructure standpoint, right? Making sure we have the supply chain and hospital capabilities in place. Once that point is reached, we’re going back to work.

The difference in a baby boom 9 months from now and a great depression filled with millions of sicides and the other violent crime rates that would have Chicago and Baltimore saying hold my beer.

Imo, once that point is reached, we need to attack the virus like the head of the WHO advises. Tracing, isolating, testing, quarantine.

I will never grow tired of teaching you everything your teachers and parents didn't. However this would go faster if you would meet me halfway. [winking]

The military would treat you better if you were under martial law. There are better ways to enforce rules. This is stupid.

A slave to the cause.

Spain buys $467 million in medical supplies from China

From CNN's Mia Alberti in Lisbon and Ingrid Formanek and Al Goodman in Madrid
Spain has bought $467 million worth of medical supplies from China, the Spanish health minister said on Wednesday.

Health Minister Salvador Illa said Spain's President "talked over the phone with China's President a few days ago, and since then the whole government has been working together to sign this contract and make this buy."

The equipment includes 550 million masks, 5.5 million "quick tests," 950 ventilators and 11 million gloves. The supplies should cover the medical needs in Spain for about four to eight weeks, Illa said.

The minister also announced two companies in Spain are already producing medical equipment as well.

In response to the rise in deaths, which have surpassed China's numbers, Illa said: "We said this week would be tough, the numbers are tough. It is likely that the number of deaths will increase for a few more days until we reach the peak".

Spain now has at least 3,434 deaths from coronavirus, but authorities say the number of hospitalized patients is "stabilizing."

Fernando Simón, chief of the Center for Emergencies, explained in Wednesday's news conference that the rate of infection is slowing down, "which means we are not far from the national peak."

"Regarding the increase in new cases, if we are not at the peak already, we are very close," he said.

Rumor has it North Carolina is going into total lockdown Friday. Governor PC at 2pm.

Edit - Not a rumor. We're making plans based on working with the governor's office. I'll get a hall pass. Essential employee!

Edit 2 - we still expect the same announcement, just not today. Evidently someone questioned "what about us??!" today.

Common theme amongst those that have been awarded this honor is when asked why did they take the actions they did is "unselfishness" and not just bravery.
