That's the beauty of it!!!! They can go get feedback and not make a stupid mistake and when they come back they aren't being singled out

The NBA is not going to get used by the new NCAA rules.

I really doubt that the NBA will even acknowledge that someone like Dom is in the draft.

This mass declaring will be nationwide not just UK.

Briscoe will probably be the big loser with the new rules because tons of marginal prospect will make it harder for NBA teams to decide who they want to actually bring in and work out.

Between Briscoe, Newman, and Blakeney, who do you bring in for a workout. Probably get a different answer from each team.

I think you are missing the point. They are "declaring ". Only a select few will even get invited to the combine. The kids that are borderline or think they have a chance get a huge dose of reality. Like I said before. If this was in place last year dakari probably wouldn't chance it

some people are just closed minded. cant help themselves. its not really about Cal stirring the pot or getting PR. drawing potential recruits.

its more about putting other coaches in a hard spot. uk walk-ons are going to get draft evaluations, players will get to talk to teams, and some will get invited to the combine. now what are guys like justin jackson, joel berry, carlton bragg, chiek diallo, allonzo trier, onuaku going to do? what are their coaches going to tell them when they go and ask...i'm better than briscoe or charles mathews....they are in the draft talking to teams....why cant i? some coaches out there dont want their players going to the draft combine...because the folks in the NBA might tell them they are 1st rounders, making them declare. and if coaches out there tell kids they shouldnt explore the draft....well....lets just say thats a bad look. i doubt a coach wants that label.

That's a cool hypothetical scenario...but not based in reality. If a player wants to test the waters, he's not looking at KY kids as a barometer for that. These kids have egos of their own. If they want to declare, they will declare.

Cal normally does a really good job of conveying his "players first" mantra. I just think he tried a little too hard this time. The whole "I met with my team & told them..." spiel just sounds a little too forced & contrived.

Man, certain people on this board will bytch about ANYTHING.

3rex would complain if Cal gave him a million bucks. Oh that's just called trying to make me seem like a pauper. .

..why do people even continue to give him and others the joy of arguing with you?

Probably because they're well versed enough in the topic to lay out their position, or tell me when where I'm wrong, etc.

Or they understand that it's a message board & can accept a variety of opinions here.

They're not a whiner like yourself.

i think people are just had enough of the same old tired, empty opinions.

"dumb and embarrassing"

its not dumb at all...it is actually brilliant. very strategic. embarrassing....in what way? were you so ashamed you couldnt leave the house today? if i had a dollar for every time a uk fan came to this board and said something was embarrassing...it would be like winning the powerball. are fans that fragile and insecure?

just wish fans would man up and stop being so passive aggressive. say what you really feel. dumb and embarrassed over this. doubt it.

Ha! Really?

I gave the opinion that it's "dumb & embarrassing"'and you think I should "say how I really feel?!"

I think I said in pretty clear terms how I feel, and I laid out why. Pretty clearly. And yes, I left the house lol...

Now tell me...what is brilliant about this move?

at what other school could Jonny David or EJ Floreal say they tried the NBA draft? That in itself is a boost for THEM. So many on here tend to dismiss the walk ons, and, I'm sure they do the same themselves (after all they hear it often enough) - but this lets them do what their brothers are doing and can only strengthen the team.

Oh, and I do agree with the other pros to this stated in this thread - I just like the human aspect of it

Wait wait wait...you're calling me a whiner? That's literally all you do is whine and whine and whine.. which is exactly the reason this discussion is happening.

Kentucky and cal are getting as much publicity as teams still in the hunt, yet you think it's stupid.

Many people have told you why you're wrong, and if you had any sense you would see that I also have, just people like you can't comprehend that.

Dude I'm giving my opinion on a message board. There is no whining in it. I have an opinion. It is a message board. Get over yourself. I don't take the temp of the board before I give my opinion & so I don't care who thinks I'm wrong. That is their opinion. And they are entitled to it.
Ill continue to give mine & you can like it or get your panties in a wad about it as you have here. Doesn't affect me either way.
skills??...

Cal and the staff knows who has the ability to make in the NBA. For those kids on our team who doesn't have the game to get there I think this gives them opportunity to experience the process. Whats wrong with that. It could also lead to networking for anyone who wanted a career in the NBA as a non player.

For some of those kids, it's the closest they are ever gonna feel to fulfilling their dreams of the NBA.

I'm sure Johnny David isn't going to the NBA, but damn can you imagine that he prolly feels great to have NBA scouts at least have to look at his name.

and here 3rex wants to crap on their dreams to satisfy his wishes.

Lol...the more I think about you're right! In fact, why should it be just the basketball players who get to declare? I think every student who attended a game, watched one on TV, or listened to one on the radio should declare as well!! After all, they might've picked up on something that could make them a draftable commodity! ;)

Students and fans don't play on the team 3rex. And there is nothing stopping you, other students, and fans from submitting your names into the draft.

They have as much of a chance in getting a spot on an NBA roster as our walkons do.

You've converted me Wily...in fact I say if you even own a piece of UK memorabilia or clothing, you should declare. It just brings us all that much closer together. It bonds us is what it does. ;)

Ok forgive me for assuming I might get a reasonable answer.

I don't care what Louseyville does. And it has nothing to do with this issue.
Some people have to work really hard to get on everyone's ignore list. I don't think you are one of them.

He's been on mine forever. The guy hates the UK coach. I'm not gonna talk basketball with a fan who hates Coach Cal. I mean you can disagree with his in game coaching or some of the things he says but the goons on here who take every chance to attack him are not real UK fans. You would think the 2nd best coach in UK history would get more respect.
