I feel sorry for them being stuck with Payne... probably the worst coaching hire in modern history. Would rank it up there with Houston at Tennessee.

He will get a chance with a competitive roster and better players, whether anyone likes it or he deserves it . He truly was dealt a bad hand and a weird situation with looming NCAA stuff ( that went their way , ultimately) . This roster is not only bad , but not constructed normally , as it has like 9 forwards . The roster isn’t his fault , but he should’ve taken a body or two at guard, and maybe found a way to get rid of them and free space , after better players are available in the portal , etc

He's going to need 3-4 years before you can really paint KP in this kind of light, thanks to the previous folks ruining the place and making it a nightmare to recruit.
Exactly, it’s funny because the fans know they have little talent and no PG but they put all blame on Payne who wasn’t the one who caused all this in the first place. He needs years to get a fair shake but he won’t get it.

The portal has changed ‘rebuild ‘ expectations, I think , whether it’s fair or not . A couple hits in the portal and one 4 star HS guy has you competitive, or should . He gets next yr , and probably needs to be above .500 get three

UL fans are living in dream land wanting the instant results we got when Cal came on. Granted, we blew our load against WVU in the E8, but hey, UL fans would be ecstatic to have a coach get them to the S16 in his first year...

Payne walked into an absolute dumpster fire. I’m willing to give him time to recruit players and build the program back up.

Next year's recruiting will be very important. They look better than at start of year so somebody is coaching them up.

I don’t think he’s been dealt a good hand, imo it will take him at least 3 years to have a competitive roster, It’s to early to question his coaching.

Needs time...at least he's not the one responsible for setting the program back almost 10 years like we have.

Realistically it could take 10-15 years for Payne to rebuild. Hopefully they’re extremely patient with him…..
This isn't fb...shouldn't be totally judged till his first recruiting class is graduating. 3/4 of the right players and you're in business.

He is a victim of being a Cal assistant. His years of watching Cal rolling out the ball in practice is what he learned. That is why Cal assistants are not valued by the basketball community.

KP wasn't able to recruit this current class because of the onus of NCAA sanctions hanging over their heads. That threat is gone and now their shoe company will be free to buy them a good team just like their football team. Their PG is already better than ours, and they have a nice big that's better than ours except for Oscar. Get a 2 guard, and a couple forwards and KP will be taking Cals lunch. But only for a game or 2, Cal is retiring after next year. No inside knowledge, just gut instinct. Cal looks beaten.

I don't understand why you think this. UL has been destroyed my what, five years of potential major penalties hanging over their heads. 3 coaches and no recruiting because of the possible penalties. They are exactly where they should be right now and it has nothing at all to do with KP. Hell, Rupp, Pitino nor the good Cal could do much better with the team they have. In three years Kenny will have them back in the mix.

Years played for and coached by Denny Crum , under Ernie Kent at Oregon as an assistant and then the Knicks equal his time spent with Cal

Wait, an assistant who learned to coach under Cal, but can't recruit like Cal, is struggling as a coach? Shocking!

I don't know if he can coach or not but in my wildest dreams I didn't think they could be this bad. They aren't just bad for the bottom of the ACC. That would be bad enough. They aren't even that good. I am going to have to make it to a game or 2 this year.
My record for U of L games at the YUM Center is good. I'm 1 and 0 and that one was a banked in 3 at the buzzer to beat them in a game they were up 5 with 6 seconds to go. It was awesome except that I couldn't laugh because they would have known I was a UK fan and would have got my butt kicked. Once we got out of the arena and away from the fans it was one of the funniest things ever.

His time with cal is a small part of who he is . He played under crum , was an assistant at Oregon and the Knick’s . He’s like 54 and was with cal 8-9 yrs

I'd be ecstatic if our coach got US to the sweet 16 this year.

Love their 1960s uniforms from the Unseld era.

Louisville means nothing to me. I am not from nor have ever lived in Jefferson County. I grew up in a time and went to UK when we did not play Louisville. The legislature and media created the rivalry. UK gains ZERO from it.
