Oregon reminds me a lot of us the last two years. Athletic. Not great at finishing when running full sprint at the rim. Bad at free throws

Figueroa has not even taken a shot yet. Obiagu and Mamu have been taking turns guarding Eugene. That is 5" taller with Mamu on him and 8" taller than him when Obiagu is guarding him. SHU must really be afraid of Eugene. Oregon is only 2-8 shooting foul shots so far.

I haven't watched any of this game but I see it is only a five point margin with a lot of time left. The thread makes it sound like SHU is getting crushed but they have a shot still.

Look at the way they attacked the rim on that Duarte 3 just before the under-12 timeout. Just great ball movement and guys getting in the right place and being ready to shoot.

Was just going to give Oregon credit for running a nice set, in,out, back in, easy layup for EO. Next two possessions were terrible.

Figures...Eugene transfers out and becomes Adrian Dantley.

Funny you say that. He actually looks like a cross between A. Dantley and Larry Johnson the way he gets position down low. He looks like an All-American

Eugene looked pretty damn good to me tonight vs. SHU.
I watched the game wondering why he left RU. Oregon is no better than this program right now.

Eugene scored 22 and was 10-17 on field goals. He really took it to SHU. He really looked good. The announcer even said he was the best player on the floor and felt he could make it at the next level.

Educated guess
1. He knew he needed to take time off from the knee
2. He didn’t get along with teammates. Plus...He was captain, but Geo is Batman and Ron is Robin
3. Taking the year of allowed him to essentially be a free agent
4. Oregon on paper had a better chance of winning than RU at the time

Playing his way into the first round of the draft.

Great player at Rutgers. He used to make defenders look silly with some of his moves around the basket.

It's obvious he used the year off to heal up and work on his outside shot.

Remember when "He literally could not dribble".. 😂😂😂

I'd never root against RU ever.

Not a Duck or Oregon fan...anymore than I care what happened to our football captain who opted out Ohio State.

Just giving a heads up.

I’ve lived in Oregon30 years off and on. I remember when the Ducks sucked at Football, similar to our last few years. They are my #2 team, reliably successful. Just as RU will be going forward!

FIG, all good points, but it also can't be a coincidence that Eugene left immediately after it was announced that Yeboah was coming onboard. I don't know whether he just got his panties in a bunch or if he was worried about possibly sharing a little bit of playing time, but the way he bailed on the program was very disappointing. He looks great this year, and I appreciate that he was a warrior for RU, but I won't ever forgive him for abandoning his team...not that he's losing any sleep over what I think 😀

If you've watched, you'd see one good team and one lousy team.

i watched the first few minutes. They mentioned some transfer from St. John's and someone from Duquesne...but even after EO hit his first shot (a 3) :Rutgers was never mentioned. You'd think with him playing against some of these guys for 3 years that information might have been woven in.

Did they ever mention Rutgers?

Eugene is now off a redshirt season and looks a lot less herky-jerky and fluid. Keep in mind, he hadn't been seen in over 18 months and is now in Year 5 of college basketball.

No one ever said Eugene wasn't a hard worker or grinder, he came a long way from Pikes 1st season to the start of Year 5. I am also looking at the start of Year 5 of Jacob Young, whose 1st 3 games of this season, looks like the start of his best season yet.

I am very impressed by the 1st 2 games so far but I definitely know that there's no way he makes that type of jump without the required time off.

My last thoughts on Eugene, left me immediately looking at how far our RU roster has moved forward since 2018-19 to 2020-21 in terms of player development, physical development and skill sets. Without assuming anyone has the same work ethic as our guys do, if Eugene can reach this level of play in Year 5, what will players like Mawot Mag look like in Years 3 and 4 at RU....??

Mag is starting from a skill set that is far ahead of where Eugene was as a freshman.....,if Mag stays on it and builds on his skill sets and puts the work in, I watched Eugene in Year 5 and can see why the staff loved Mag as a target and recruiting win.

Two very good all around games for EO. It appears he used the time off wisely to improve both his health and basketball skills. The work ethic, ability to grind and heart were always there. It is easier now than it would have been last year to see him do well, given how our year went and the continued positive trajectory of the program. I thought his departure was a very bad look given his role and importance to the team, but we will likely never know all the facts/considerations that went into his decision.

They mentioned Rutgers at least once. However, I’d rather they don’t mention Rutgers at all. I don’t like Rutgers being mentioned as the school that a very good player decided to leave.

I think that is also an alternative theory that I can see. Could have been the straw that broke the camels back

Really? I was just going to post that people complain about our sets, Oregon runs nothing.

Agree. They mostly just throw it around the perimeter until someone goes to the hoop. Seem to remember the RU offense looking pretty good against SHU too.

Eugene looked terrific. Has become a complete player on both ends of the floor.

We’ll know for sure the reasons why Eugene left once Eugene comes out with his autobiography. Lol. Though I think 1,2 and 4 above are quite plausible along with when Kwasi came on board.
For me, the circumstances with Eugene were not good when he left but when he was here, he played his *** off. I will never forget the time when he dislocated his knee for the 2nd time at the RAC right in front of me and the pain that he was in. It was awful and gut wrenching to witness. And credit Eugene for coming back very quickly twice after very serious awful knee dislocations.
Eugene was a warrior and good player for us and I hope he remains healthy and we meet Oregon in the ncaa’s and kick their butts.

I turned the game on with about 8 minutes left and watched to the end. Probably mentioned Rutgers 5 times. Was getting annoying.

As Barnum said: "I don't care what the newspapers say about me as long as they spell my name right".

It's PR...it's reps, it helps get the name into corners (people) that wouldn't know who or what you are without the mention.

Bottom line EO left after playing 3 years and there's nothing we could have done to prevent it. Rutgers put together it's best campaign worthy of NCAA Big Dance without EO. If he continues to put up big numbers there's no point it avoiding the facts... we should embrace them and use it to our advantage.

Agree to a point. I would have appreciate at least some discussion of why he transferred instead of just saying "the Rutgers transfer" or "the former Rutgers player" over and over.
