Just got stuffed by the rim on an up and under . No lift . Barely got off the floor
Wonder if that injury never recovered.. he was never a leaper.. but playing while injured.. it was sad. I wish him well (I think most reasonable people here have figured he left because minutes were going to be hard to come by.. and last year's success tell you why.. so why not wish him well?)

Eugene looks good with the year off, but he would have departed after last year and is not the fit as a shooter RU needed.....Yeboah fit better and deferred to allow the development of Ron Harper Jr.

Too many fans clearly don't understand basketball and think it's fantasy sports where scoring and rebounding equals a winning roster or team. For every minute Eugene remained on the floor, it would have slowed the growth of Harper last year.

In case fans are NOT aware, Harper Jr is on the John Wooden Award Watch List, along with 9 other B1G players. The list is a prestigious one, and is earned because the players on there are complete basketball players. Eugene would never come anywhere near this type of list and Harper doesn't make this list unless Eugene wisely departed.

Dousomu Illinois
Cockburn Illinois
Weiskamp Iowa
Garza Iowa
Livers Michigan
Hauser Michigan State
Reuvers Wisconsin
Carr Minnesota
Harper Jr Rutgers
Jackson-Davis Indiana

The B1G leads ALL conferences with 10 of the 50 choices named to this list.

Don't be fooled by stats, Harper is the star not Eugene and there's better chemistry and RU is trending way up since Eugene departed.

That's what usually happens when bad mouthing a team or player early in the game.
But some might take solace with the fact despite Eugene doing well, Oregon went down to defeat.

I think it is time for guys to let this go. Eugene gave us 3 good years and than made a decision to leave and hopefully make the NCAA. It hurt but we got through it and were better last year. What is the point to be so bitter. He played outstanding tonight with 31 points and 11 rebounds and 9-11 on foul shots. Oregon should be decent as I believe they missed their top two guards. Richardson will be out 6 weeks I think with a broken thumb. Eugene has a nose for the ball and knows how to score near the basket. They will play Seton Hall at Creighton on Friday.

this would have been his Senior year at Rutgers as he had surgery last year to repair his injury and last year he would have had to sit out with medical redshirt. He would have been good fit here this year, but he’s not here so time to move on.

He just set a career high in points with 7 minutes still to go, ha. What I do like about him is the ability to get super easy buckets and score around the rim. We don’t have that type of player.

So Eugene is better as a 5th year player than Ron Harper Jr as a 3rd year player....?? LMAO....You cannot actually have typed this and said we don't have a player who could finish around the basket.....

I was very vocal that the team would really miss Eugene. I thought we would miss his toughness on the defensive end. I was very worried he was a big part of our defensive identity.

I wasn’t 100% wrong, I was like 95% wrong. Who knows where we would have been without Myles making the big leap last year, but Eugene leaving has helped chemistry tremendously. In addition, his leaving hasn’t hurt the flow of our offense.

let’s give Eugene credit for being a part of the Rutgers build. Him playing injured and taking charges and just his overall toughness is implanted in this program.

I believe we are better off with him being a part of the program and now better off for him being away from it. I root for him.

And now with Yeboah gone (and now Geo out and Caleb) it opens things up for Ron to take the next step this season. Unpopular opinion but Ron's role is bigger this year bc it needs to be and he is rising to the challenge

Loll so hes going to make the tournament at Oregon but you're saying if he stayed here he would get COVID and cut his season short? What kind of absurd prediction is that? Come on man

EO carrying the team now! Maybe he was just rusty but his stats look good. Not watching the game. Just turned on Illinois Baylor

what is the saying? Sometimes It is better to be lucky than good?

I am saying if he says at Rutgers last year it would have been his senior year. Did covid not cut season short last year?

If he was still playing for us, we’d be a legitimate Top 10 team
Very good college player and incredibly physical and strong.
From a very close vantage point (thanks Ra Ra) next to Kofi, he’s the most physically impressive player I’ve seen.

Agree, he was a great player for RU. Some of the revisionist history in this thread is comical. I guess they forget all the stretches where nobody could score and EO would will his way to a layup and settle down the team. People might not like the way he left but you can't discount his impact, as he proved again last night.

That's not even picking the lesser of two evils, what you're settling for how you would like to die. Will it be an electric chair or by injection? I would like to see both teams warming up, and the game suddenly called due to Covid.
Poor form dude. I think you're better than this.

While our players have certain strengths, Eugene is 100% a better scorer around the basket than our bigs (Cliff and Myles). What's to argue? This wasn't meant to be a controversial statement whatsoever. Eugene finishes inside very well. Our guys are better leapers and dunkers, but Eugene has a knack around the hoop and can clean up a lot of things.

Are we a better team with or without him? Who knows, especially with chemistry and development of other players being vital.

I’m guessing he’s considering Harper a big...Harper is good around the rim but he does not back down opposing bigs with his back to the basket like Eugene does.

what some are not considering is that if Eugene did not transfer, he very well might have tried to play last year, without a full year rehab...... he seemed to be the type of player, much like Geo, who tries to make it back as soon as possible.

since he had the opportunity to transfer, he would have had to sit, and it tied into the idea of letting his knee heal for a year, which was the best thing for him, knee-wise

I just think he would have given it a go again, last year, if he stayed

There’s a right way to do things and a wrong way. When he left Rutgers, Eugene left in the wrong way. I’m not one to hold grudges, but I don’t find fault in die hard RU fans who might hold a grudge against EO. He earned it.

If Eugene had stayed and sat a year he would very well have been our PF and Ron would probably be our starting SF. That could have been one outstanding lineup but our chemistry seems really well with our group right now. With Eugene still here it might not be the same. We will never know. I just move on and wish Eugene the very best.

I'm not so sure. While EO was a very good player (agree physical/strong) - he is also a ball dominant player on Offense which tends to stop the flow for the rest of the offense. It worked well several years ago when RU was more limited offensively (players like Baker / Johnson were still developing). Currently RU's biggest need on O is not in the paint, rather it is at the Arc and spreading the floor, which is not EO's forte. On D, he would certainly add grit and strength against competing Bigs, but note that RU has been pretty solid on D even without him.

From the Eugene newspaper, citing 5 things learned after their loss to Missouri:

2, Eugene Omoruyi deserves an audience

Altman, who isn’t exactly prone to hyperbole, called Eugene Omoruyi’s debut as a Duck “as hard-nosed a performance as we’ve had from an inside guy in a long time.”

Omoruyi, a senior forward who transferred from Rutgers in 2019, played like a guy who was forced to sit out for a season.

He had a career-high 31 points, 11 rebounds, assisted on Oregon’s first field goal, had a block, tried to take charges, dove for loose balls and scored 12 straight points midway through the game to try and single-handily dig the Ducks out of a 17-point deficit.

And he did it all in an empty 17,000-seat arena. Imagine Omoruyi’s style of play with a rowdy home crowd at his back.

“Unbelievable effort. Unbelievable effort,” Altman said. “Thought he played hard and played well. …sHe’s been our hardest worker in practice and he’s done a tremendous job. I thought he’d play well tonight and he sure did. He just tried to do everything for us.”

Omoruyi (6-foot-6, 235 pounds) came to Oregon with a reputation as a tough, physical player who was the unquestioned team leader for the Scarlet Knights. Wednesday he showed the effort he’s put in to be a better scorer, going 10 for 19 from the field, 2 for 6 from the 3-point line and 9 for 11 from the free-throw line.

“I knew he’d be a good scorer for us because he works so dang hard and he’s trying to improve every facet of his game,” Altman said. “He had just a phenomenal night.”

Exactlyyy I don't hate on most transfers but the cowardly trashy way EO left deserves RU fans to hate on him.

Its a shame too bc I was one of the very veryyy few that said EO was oozing with potential freshman year and loved how hard he played

I was a big Eugene fan. I am not sure I agree with us being better with him.

I think we underestimate chemistry. In addition late his junior year the ball stopped once he got it.

Here's a strange thought.. EO gets a free extra year of eligibility.. NCAA CoVid rules for fall and winter sports (which will likely be extended to spring sports too the way things are going)

If he graduates from Oregon.. he can come back here... or elsewhere.. or stay with the Ducks.

Hmm.. I wonder how this affects freshmen next year? Fewer athletic scholarships available? fewer open spots of rosters?
