is simply incredible. I’ve never seen anything like it. I wasn’t able to attend the game but watched the broadcast. “It’s like having a free agent acquisition.” Indeed. Amazing.

I wonder how many Js he shot a day over the summer.

On the postgame radio interview, he said he took 500+ threes, 6 days a week over the summer. That’ll do it.

He completely changed his form and is shooting incredibly well. That is such a hard thing to do. His form was so bad before I never thought he could be a 3 point shooter. I thought he showed a ton of potential freshman year and saw his improvements last year coming but I never thought I would see him draining threes with ease with a nice looking stroke. He is the most improved player I've ever seen

Yes- and he said 1,000 total each day. Players like Eugene are the reason I follow college sports. To see a guy come from being completely under the radar to this because of hard work is amazing. Can’t believe how much better his shot is.

It really is incredible. He went from not being able to dribble or make a lay-up his freshman year to euro-stepping through contact and going 6-7 from 3 this year. People talking about Mathis’ struggles should look at Eugene or even Geo from last year as evidence of the improvement he can make.

Gotta give Pike credit for recruiting “gym rays “ . Can’t say enough how that changes the culture of the team when you have guys getting up a bunch of shots before and after practice . The other guys see this and it rubs off on them . No one wants to be the first one out of the gym.

Credit Corey Sanders with that as well. He's the one who started the midKnight shift, where they go to the gym at midnight and work.

Yep . The coach can only do abs say so much . Can’t force kids to work on their own but you can recruit kids who love to play and are gym rats

Coach Pikiell wasn't kidding when he said that Eugene made just as much of a jump from Freshman to Sophomore as he always he has made from Sophomore to Junior year. He looks like a totally different player. Good for Eugene!

I know it has been asked before, but what if Eugene is the most improved player again NEXT year?

What would he be capable of doing?

Less than 3 days ago, i was worried that asking Eugene to be the 2nd scorer on this team and that him being a consistent 3 point shooter was too much to ask.

My fears are not just gone, but pretty much eliminated 2 games into the season. He's not a catch and shoot player, but he doesn't have to be. He steps into the shot very cleanly and completely rebuilt his mechanics. He's going to be left open because he's such a good driver off the bounce.

The name that was mentioned 2 years ago was baby Draymond Green on his mixed tape video when he was trying to drum up interest and offers. He was an August verbal, one month before the fall semester started.

I know it's early but he's got a toughness that allows him to be a force on both ends...took 2 more charges which is infectious.

If Harper can follow Eugene's work ethic, the forwards will be trouble for opponents down the road.

And this work ethic was developed at all hours of the night at the RAC...at this time next year, we have a brand new facility being opened where these players will breathe, shoot, practice and improve.

Being a role player if not a starter in the NBA. He has the height and athleticism to be a small forward, but if he can shoot threes, in addition, to his improving post-up moves, and strong defensive mindset, he can definitely make it in the league, IMO. His next thing to work on would probably be his handle.

Have we ever seen or had a player like Eugene who has improved so much from his freshman to junior year - let alone his improvement from his freshman to sophomore year (last year)? The progress year after year is astounding and how Pike analyzes and sees the potential for these kids to develop is just as amazing - as is with Geo - who I believe was ranked 414th or something like that graduating from HS. You would think right now both would have 4 star top 50 recruits coming from HS.

He's the key to us making the tourney next year, imo. I said he had to develop a spot up 3 by his senior year. The spacing is so much better if he can't be left unguarded outside.

I'd love to see him get some run at the 5 spot when we go small.

Maybe he can give Corey shooting lessons in the off season lol. EO the 3 point assassin!

In recent years, I'd say Kadeem Jack. He improved a great deal but not quite to the level Eugene has. Going back a while, I think of Damon Santiago who made himself into an All-Big East level player by his senior year

Jack improved a ton, but then kind of took a step back his senior year
