Sure, we throw the rest of you freeloaders on our backs to keep this country going and will show up on Monday just like we always have, but that’s what we do. The final bastion of civility and the thin line that keeps society from eroding to a bunch of roaming hoards of apes.

I’m in healthcare. Who’s holding the line with me?

Med-surg RN enjoying my last day of a 3 day weekend. Our census has been low so I'm hoping I don't get pulled tomorrow night.

I know several medical professionals facing this problem. It seems odd to think in a time of a medical pandemic that a medical professional might not have work but medical procedures that are not necessary are being put off.

I have no idea if I am essential but I am scheduled to work tomorrow. I book flights for very rich people and corporations.

I would like to thank all essential workers who are putting themselves at risk to work in uncertain times, especially those who are allowed not to and can afford not to work.

I've been told my position/job/company is essential...though we can work from home so it's nothing at all similar to working on the 'front lines' of this or anything like working with those infected.

Account management for a Transportation logistics technology company.
It's a **** show.
- Drivers and carriers are price gouging in every sense of the term.
- Customers are pushing out way more orders than shippers can handle.
- Drivers are starting to stay home which reduces the overall available capacity.
- Shippers are overloaded with orders which leads to delays.
- Some warehouses have unexpectedly closed, even food industry warehouses, in PA and CA(i would guess elsewhere too come this week, but that's a total guess).

Sone recent efforts to reduce contact for drivers and warehouse workers- many warehouses have set up remote check-in for drivers and paperwork isnt being signed.

Critical Care doc here. Moving out of my house tomorrow for at least the next two months so I don’t risk exposing my wife and kids.

That's a heavy thought and one I hadn't considered. Thank you very much for what you're doing. Your family should be very proud.

Thank you for saying that. This does suck. It has given me some serious perspective on things.

Thank you, health care providers.

I’ll be at work, energy sector. We have the option of working from home, but most days that isn’t a realistic possibility.

I'm with a global healthcare corp. We were already on limited OT before this started and now it's getting pretty crazy. The warehouse workers are being offered extra pay just to show up for their shift.

This is Victor Davis Hansen's podcast on coronavirus. He is a retired classics professor at Stanford and historian. He has a unique perspective on the situation and is a real advocate of the people who are indeed essential workers.

I truly appreciate everyone grinding it out in healthcare, agriculture, transportation, food processing/packing, energy, etc. God bless.

Oral and Maxillofacial surgeon here. Standing in the gap for those people having pain and infection so that we can hopefully keep our ERs less crowded.

Financial Institution. Going back to work after a scheduled vacation, for a week before I get let go because of restructuring. What sucks was that I was going to enjoy at least one month severance, now the kids are out of school. Thanks COVID-19!

I don't know single person actually working from home. Maybe I only know the essential people.

My job is about as essential to day to day life as a fly turd in a window sill, but I'm still at work. Friday, our senior vp said no plans to shut down because if we did we'd just all go to Walmart or get our oil changed and be exposed that way so why not come to work.

Residential builder in NC here. We’re rolling on as long as they’ll let us. I know there has been some lobbying by the HBA to consider us essential if there is a shutdown enacted.

Today word came down that we’re required to take our temperature each morning, and all offices/design centers/model homes are moving to appointment only with a requirement for taking one’s temperature before entering.

I'm at work but probably not an essiential employee but our Company is deemed

essential to keeping the power grid up. Can certainly work from home but I have a couple of guys working in the office so I choose to be here.

Physical Therapist at work every day. Pretty tough to avoid contact with patients when most require assistance with transfers and walking. We’re also trying to sell the house right now. Gonna be an interesting few months.

I am a teacher in a youth development center, a locked facility serving adjudicated youth. These young people are in our care and are short staffed so we are all hands on deck. We will be throughout this ordeal.

I'm curious who is actually staying home - other than teachers and retail stores or restaurants that have closed (or working with limited staff). I know some of the larger manufacturers in my area are now closed (Toyota & Cooper Tire) and some of the furniture manufacturers around here have closed too.

But it seems a lot of the smaller ones are still going. I wonder if they plan to keep going until an employee tests positive.

Banking operations. I could easily work from home, but my staff cannot. I'm not going to have them come into work and me sit at home, so I'm mostly isolated in my office.

What I'm finding illogical are certain businesses deeming themselves essential while other similar stores have closed.

I’m in public accounting. We have 9 or 10 of us still working from the office and we sent a few support staff home. We’ve cancelled all face to face appointments with clients and are only doing drop off work.

This, plus the tax deadline extension, means I’ll definitely be working fewer hours the next few weeks than we normally do this time of year. But still going in to the office regardless for now.

Veterinarian. Taking every precaution that I know to do, and have been for the past week. No way that I or my staff can work from home, so we aren't allowing anyone in the building. I am utterly amazed at the reasons people will come up with to get out in this mess. We are the most selfish creatures on Earth.

Nursing Home Administrator here... running a continuing care retirement community... so I'm still fighting the good fight every day.

Lots of screenings and extreme limitations on people coming and going. Doing our best to manage physical well-being and somehow keep people from going stir crazy.

PA in a Pediatric clinic... I initially thought being in healthcare that I wouldn't have to worry about my job. All providers in my office (one MD, two NPs, and myself) have been cut back to 3 days per week. I sit here on a Monday, which is usually our busiest day of the week, with only 4 patients on my schedule - down from about 25 typically. All routine check up/vaccine visits are cancelling. We're handling little minor things over the phone instead of bringing patients into the office. I don't know how much longer the office can operate like this from a financial standpoint.

Here's a suggestion for the supervisors out there.
Stay home. I have some peers who, although they could work from home, think that because they are managers, they must be tough and go into work. Consequently, their teams see the boss at work, and feel obligated to be there onsite also.
It's up to the managers to set the example to work remotely. It doesn't make you stoic or heroic to go to the office, nor is it your duty as a manager to be there. There is no "captain going down with the ship" analogy here.
