I hate even giving this idiot exposure by posting this but he says that Notre Dame should change their mascot name because Fightin Irish is offensive to Irish Americans!
References Cleveland Indians mascot as well.
Have we just become a nation of vaginas where every little thing is now offensive?!?
Hate the 17ing word offensive now.
Used way too much by people with obviously nothing better to do with their pathetic lives other than complain about **** like this!

It's a product of outlandish complaining getting ratings. More people are talking about MK today than they ever did. It made you look twice.

With news media accessible 24/7 on every electronic device imaginable, you have to say crazier and crazier **** to get heard. Problem is that ESPN actually believes the crazy **** they say.

Fighting Irish seems a little far, but I understand how ‘Redskins’ (etc) could be offensive to native Americans.

well, using the basis that the image may be offensive to a certain demographic, he would be right....the problem is people are way too easily offended about everything.

Most of the people aren't really offended. They're just addicted to the attention they get from saying they are offended.

I'm sure I just don't get it, but I'm mostly Irish on both sides and I've never once been offended by the Fighting Irish nickname.

We have way to much media trying to get listened to 24 hours a day.

Once I acknowledged that ESPN has become the Buzzfeed of sports, things like this have been more understandable.

I’m of Irish descent. It is a stereotypical image of a drunken brawling Irishman. That being said it has never offended me. Nor should it.

Like it or not, basing your team's mascot name on racial or cultural stereotypes just isn't going to work nowadays. I don't think that's an "every little thing is offensive" deal, it's that **** that used to be common practice and acceptable is not those things any more.

For example, the Mississippi State Bulldogs used to be the Mississippi A&M Maroons. Turns out, "Maroons" was used as a racial slur against African Americans (or black people, if you will). Rather than ***** and moan about "tradition" and vaginas, we changed it because MSU has always been about not being dicks to the citizenry of Mississippi.

It's really not that hard.

Yeah. Redskins is the one name I could see being truly offensive. Hell, I'm almost a little bit offended by it and I'm white. I'm not clamoring for a change, but that's the one team I wouldn't mind if there was a change. All the others are just ridiculous.

Truer words have rarely been spoken. Between the attention, compassion from the media, and lawsuits(free $$$) involved, it’s sometimes hard to discern what the exact motive is in each case, but these folks clearly know nowadays that all they have to do is provide a spark, and the media will take it from there.

It’s insanely out of control

I hate even giving this idiot exposure by posting this but...

Congratulations on being part of the Manufactured Outrage Cycle. It's designed to operate on two levels. The first comes when someone is offended by Issue A. The second is when someone feels compelled to react to the fact that Someone is Offended by Issue A.

...people with obviously nothing better to do with their pathetic lives other than complain about **** like this!

The irony in this comment is magnificent.

If you really want stuff like this to go away, the single best thing you can do is ignore it. And, yes, I recognize the irony in my own statement.

Yeah I have all of that too.......I'm also a direct male line descendent of the chieftain from which my Irish sept took its name.

Curiously, he had nothing to say about the Israeli baseball team’s World Baseball Classic mascot, Mensch on the bench.

I concur, Rebels is offensive to African Americans, they should have to do away with the name Rebels..... and Ole Miss. The phrase Ole Miss sounds too much like slavery times!! HAHA

I wish the school up north would have everything stripped away from it.
