Do we get more ESPN games next year? Or are we tied in to the BTN exclusively? Not really sure how that works for B-BALL.

FS1 is carried in every sports bar that has ESPN so the eyeballs will be there and those of us watching with the sound on cam at least enjoy the broadcast

Since the B1G got the Fox contract there are a lot fewer Big Ten games on the ESPN networks. Probably half the amount of three years ago.
Interesting. I haven't noticed that. I guess the B1G games I've cared to watch have either been on BTN or one of the ESPN channels.

I guess I've been lucky.

Being in temporary housing because of a move for work the last couple weeks I can tell you there are very few Big Ten conf games on the ESPN networks. Luckily, it’s easy to subscribe and watch the games on BTN through the Fox Sports App

I'll take your word for it. Like I posted earlier, I guess the B1G games I've cared to watch have either been on BTN or one of the ESPN channels.

Guess that means you haven’t watched a lot of Rutgers games :)

Ironically today may have been the first or second time I was available to watch a Rutgers game.

Between being at games for the team that I cover, watching high school games, and taking an occasional night off to do something that I want to do I haven't had the chance to take in games live. I have watched a few on Synergy Sports a day or two after the game was played

So we can get the 8th string ESPN crew like they stuck us with during the ACC Challenge game against Pitt? No thanks. I hated that telecast against Pitt and had to turn off the sound. The Analyst was so down and negative on Rutgers, I couldn’t take it anymore. Love the BTN crews and also enjoy coverage of games on Fox. So happy that we play for a Conference aligned with the Fox family and of course a usual CBS Sunday game for the B1G.

If we continue to do well we will get national games on Fox’s prime network channel which has the contract for the Big 10.

I think you had Chris Cotter and Dan Bonner for that game against Pitt which would suck for Rutgers because both of them are ACC guys.

Cotter has been with ESPN for a while but recently added duties with the ACC Network. Judging by your description it appears he may have forgotten that he was doing an ESPN game and not a ACCN game.

Dan Bonner is an ACC guy through and through. He played at Virginia in the early 70s. I could take or leave Bonner but most people I know don't seem to like him much. I don't really pay much attention to the PxP guy or the analyst when I watch games tho.

Yes, Thanks. Think it was Bonner who was the Analyst. I understand Rutgers played poorly, however, listening to Bonner throughout the game you would have thought we were the worst team in the league and it went on throughout (or at least until I turned off the sound). Guess I’m used to BTN’s positive and complimentary commentary for both teams. Bonner also lacked knowledge about the Rutgers team, for example, stating the way we win games is by taking foul shots. For me it was a painful listen, compounding the fact that we lost the game.

All you sour people saying “ESPN sucks” and whatever else...

I don’t care what your individually driven views are. I care what is best for RU basketball and the school. IF ESPN gets higher ratings and more eyes on the RUTGERS brand, then we should all want that. I’d say pretty confidently that ESPN and ESPN2 get many more people and public places that default to that channel. The only people watching BTN are mostly other B1G conference fans. The casual observer does not typically tune into BTN, or SEC network.

also it would be historic and a massive marketing coup if RU got onto the football or basketball version of College gameday. And ESPN only does that for games on its own networks 90% of the time.

Thanks for telling us what we should want. What’s best for the school is revenue from TV contracts distributed by the Conference and they’ve decided you’ll find Big Ten basketball games on BTN, Fox/FS1, a Sunday game on CBS and even some games on ESPN channels. If you don’t like that, go write a strongly worded letter to Big Ten headquarters and good luck with that.

On the crawl last night only B1G mentions for MBB were those in the Top 25.

They did list the ACC and Big East scores though.

Announcers always suck when your favorite team loses or is trailing in the game. Back in the 70's I hated Brent Musburger for years because it seemed like he was happy whenever the Celtics trailed in a game.

Yeah, I’ve sat through a lot of losing with Rutgers over the years. The telecasts usually don’t irk me like Bonner did. Negative and clueless is a bad combination.
