Thought that was an interesting stat.

That's a totally different animal. You have to have people that can analyze data, make projections, negotiate salaries, and basically be CEO's. Someone with business sense. A former player typically isn't going to have all of those qualities unless they're someone like Billy Beane.

It doesn't involve a ball, but axe throwing still hasn't opened back up. I suppose you'd call it a sport, even without a ball.

Sooooo you're saying a person can know a lot about baseball without having played it at the MLB level?

I'd much rather a former player tell me about the game than GM or a softball player. Having actually been there carries a lot more weight when I'm watching a baseball game than someone who hasn't.

If I'm watching a softball game- give me Mendoza over Kruk.

If it's the trade deadline and they are talking about trades and roster moves give me Jim Bowden or someone like that.

There's a reason why no one other than ESPN on this one exception has hired baseball players to analyze game. Otherwise what's the difference between Mendoza and a guy that plays softball that "knows a lot about the game"?

I hate to tell you, but a lot of ex-players in all sports don't know jack **** about how to analyze a game in their sport. And a lot of them are on the air doing it.

We literally come on here and ***** about that exact thing throughout the entirety of any season.

Football... we ***** about Dan Fouts, Jordan Rodgers, Jesse Palmer, Gary Danielson, and Booger McFarland.
Baseball... we ***** about Joe Morgan and Tim McCarver.
Basketball... we ***** about Bill Walton, Clark Kellogg, and Jeff Van Gundy.

On top of that, we then ***** about whomever is on the SEC Network or SEC Network Plus at any given time, who are, generally, former players.

I would take Jessica Mendoza talking about baseball over just about any of the aforementioned talking about their respective sports.

You got it. How many aren't?

Tom Verducci
Dan O'Dowd
John Hart

You see those guys in the booth and you lunge for the remote, right?

I'm sure you also turn off Mississippi State baseball and basketball games whenever Matt Wyatt is doing color because he never played either in college right?

I’m just so fortunate I got to take in the knowledge of former NFL football player Booger McFarland on MNF, if only for a fleeting moment in time***

What would the NBA Playoffs be without Mark Jackson giving me keen insights like "Mama, there goes that man" and "It's alllllllriiiiight"?

They have thousands of hours of amazing games on file. We could watch entire Masters tournaments, entire NCAA baseball & basketball tournaments (if CBS would lend it) that we can relive.

You’re going to be thrilled to learn about YouTube.
