I agree...going to the portal no matter the circumstances is a risk. I think Beau was just one of many guys that though Franklin would always have his back when in reality Franklin only has his own back. Tough lesson for these young guys to learn.

Because Beau didn't realize he was being used. He felt James had his best interest at heart when he didn't.

But, to some degree, all coaches do. James took it to another level when Beau left Penn State for the portal IMO which I'm guessing Beau probably finally comprehends. Benefit of hindsight

Why would he be oligated to pick Hack up after he made horrible decisions after being drafted including changing his throwing motion?
You can play all the hypotheticals you want--none of that alters what transpired with Franklin and Beau. He used Beau--it worked for him--didn't work for Beau--that's life
