Nobody tell Moos!

A little surprised Kent got the hook. But I guess WSU felt that if he couldn't show some progress in a terrible year for the Pac-12, it wasn't ever going to happen.

Oh no, and Moos is traveling to the west coast this weekend. He could stop by Pullman and help him load up the U-Haul.

That’s awfully nice of Wazzu to fire Kent so we don’t have to pay a buyout to get him here. Go get him Moos.
64 years old. Not sure if I am fond of that. But might not be as much an issue in bb

Ernie's like the Mike Riley of basketball coaches.
He's not Mike Riley-level bad, but I certainly wouldn't want NU to hire him. He'll probably go back to Pac-12 Network, where he was pretty good as a studio guy.

I hope Moos does a better job replacing Miles. None of my Coug friends were very happy when Moos hired Kent. It was a very uninspired hire. WSU has always been underfunded compared to the rest of the Pac 12. Let's hope that is the reason Moos hired Kent

Matta and Hoiberg are still my top 2 at this point. After today's game, if it's Turgeon that will not be popular choice with many.

It is pretty interesting that both Nate Oats and Dana Altman signed big contract extensions today. Two coaches many people expected us to go after, on the same day, in the middle of their conference tournaments.
We're either keeping Miles or going to have to settle for an unproven lower tier coach. Bank on it.

You don't know that. Dana was always a long shot, He's been at UO 9 years and he's going to go down as the best basketball coach in the program's history. This just confirms what we thought all along, that Moos was in fact targeting Altman. What would you think if we got Billy Kennedy from A&M? A&M is done with him and he's made 2 Sweet 16's in 5 years. I think we could snag a guy like that and it still be a major upgrade over Miles. Buzz Williams is still out there as well as Hoiberg, Cronin, Thad Matta, and quite a few others. We don't need every coach to want this job, we just need one.

Billy Kennedy has Parkinson's Disease, I'm not sure he'll be able to coach much longer. Probably not someone you want to give a 7-year contract, which is what it took to even get Tim Miles here, let alone a more proven coach.

I'd throw the bank at Matta and Hoiberg, but I think both are long shots. It will probably end up being another mid-major like the guy at SDSU or Murray State. In that case, I'd almost rather keep Miles.

Didn't know that. No thanks to Otzleberger, that guy has done nothing outside of hitting the lottery with Mike Daum. Never heard of the dude from Murray State. Obviously Moos' plan A fell through with Altman, he always said he'd have 5 names. I trust he can land someone better than Miles.

The fact that Altman got a very oddly timed extension very much points to the idea that Miles is toast and that Moos is pursuing other coaches.

But what if Moos gets rejected by everyone on his list? Does it make sense to fire Miles and bring in another mid-major coach with the same resume that Miles had 7 years ago? In that case, I think I'd rather keep Miles and see what he can do with Jervay Green, Dachon Burke, and (hopefully) Roby.

Ernie Kent had 5 years at Wazzu to turn around the team and never managed to do so, despite having some really good players. Attendance at Beasley was horrible and one can assume that donations were down as well. Fans did come out for the Apple Cup game only to see the cougs do what they do best against Washington - they couged it. (As a Husky fan it was a great game to attend). No surprise to see Ernie get the boot.

I don't know it for sure. Logically though, that's what it will be. Maybe Moos would go the assistant route. I'm not sure I like that idea but if he does I dang sure hope more than Moos vets the guy.

Chris Heady seemed to think Hank Bounds and Ronnie Green would be involved in the search and knowing how close Moos is with Gene DeFillipo of Turnkey search I would imagine he'd be involved too.

Green is a sharp guy and his wife wouldn't let him screw it up:D

FWIW I had already given up on the Husky/Ducks game last night when Dave Pasch said something to the effect of the rumors of Dana Altman going to Nebraska/Nebraska looking at Altman when Bill Walton said something about "why would anyone leave Oregon to go to Nebraska?" Sorry I missed this gem.

Then bring Craig Smith back. Miles isn't going to win anything here. He's had 7 years to prove it.
