Any chance he could take over after Cal down the road? Only in his 40s. Already been to five finals, with two rings. And he’s relied heavily on former UK guys to get there this time.

Just a fun thought I had this morning.

I assume this is semi tongue in cheek. But without looking up his salary, and assuming its on par with Cals salary, I can't see why you would leave a cushy NBA gig seeing as he is successful. And even if he has a few bad years and gets canned, he'll have NBA teams lining up for him to land there.

How many NBA coaches in their prime choose to go to the college level? I'm not talking at the end of their careers, the ones that sucked or others that got in trouble.

Pitino is the only one that comes to mind. He went 52-30 and finished 1st in the East, then took the UK job.

Maybe Larry Brown. He was one year removed from taking the Nuggets to the ABA Conference Finals when he took the Kansas job.

They are few and far between.

I think OP is just having fun with the thought (I hope). I’m a big Spoelstra fan. I remember when Riley first promoted him after stepping down as the HC, people really questioned the move. Then they thought he was just a puppet for LeBron. He’s a damn good coach and seems like he’d be a great guy to play for.

I don't see any NBA coach who is having success like Spoelstra taking a collage job and having to deal with recruiting and all the headaches dealing with the NCAA. I know it has happen as some have pointed out but I don't see it happening.

Miami's coach is a future hall of famer at the NBA level. I don't see why he would want to bother with the college game if he can win in the NBA at the ultimate level. If Cal or Pitino could win in the NBA they would be there still as well...some guys work better in the NBA than others. It also depends on location and what team you inherit. Billy D almost won a West Title in year 1 at OKC if not for a massive collapse, and who knows, they could have beat the Cavs in the finals but once Durant left he suddenly didn't do as well...shocking.

This is absurd.

But I will say watching the Heat play offense in today’s NBA has been a joy to watch. Cutting, screening, movement. Somebody fly Calipari down so he can get some tips from Spoelstra.

I could see how a smart coach would want to leave the China driven BLM. NBA for a job that pays as well without all the bull ****.

Lol. The NBA >>>>>>>>>>>>> NCAA as far as ******** goes and most every coach worth a damn will tell you that.

Love college basketball but it’s a niche/regional sport that the majority of Americans only care about once a year and that’s due to gambling/marketing of March Madness.

The NBA is a global game followed by hundreds of millions of people around the world the whole year round.

(23) Bam = Tim Duncan
(20) Herro = Manu Ginobili
(31) Butler = Kwai
(34) Dragic = Parker
(49) Spoelstra = Pop

I know that's a stretch, but wouldn't that be something?

Frank Vogel is a UK grad, so that might be a remote possibility if UK is looking for a coach whenever Lebron fires him.

Pitino wants complete control and to be the center of attention. That ain’t happening for an NBA coach, that’s one of the reasons he left for UK. Boston gave him complete control and his ego got so huge is why he left Kentucky.
