Well crap...guess I can’t blame him...Royals now in full rebuild mode...going to be a long 5-10 years at the K

The San Diego Padres, without Wil Myers, are basically a Triple-A team. They have been horrible since Tony Gwynn. Bad management after bad management. I live out here in SD, and at first I had no idea how the hell the Padres would be able to afford Hosmer.

But alas, they have a young general manager and their farm system is top 5 right now. Hosmer has the championship mentality and a total A-player mindset to potentially take the Padres to the next level. He must have seen something in the Padres organization to want to leave KC. We will see though, I've seen the Padres implode so many times. As a die-hard Royal, it's time to bulk up the farm system again.

A 1b with a career OPS below .800. While they're at it, they should go get Shakey Jake and sign him to a 7-yr $210 mil deal. I can't see SD being good anytime soon, especially with how good AZ and Col are and of course, LA . I think of all the splashy moves this clown Preller made for the 15 season and we all know how that turned out.

On a side note, I hope the Red-Sox don't outbid itself and give J.D. Martinez a $200 mil dollar deal for 7 years. Scott Boras is filth.

I think what he saw in the Padres organization was the sunny, 72 degree, low humidity days. :Cool:

You're talking about Eric Hosmer, right? A 28 year old, gold glove winning, .300 hitter with power and World Series experience is a hell of a lot better than nostalgia. I just think it's a shame that the Royals can average 30,000 fans a night over the last two years and not be able to keep their home grown players. Major League baseball is a joke.

Remember it is a BUSINESS and you cannot blame these guys for cashing in their chips. Sure, it’s great when a player stays with a team for his career, but that’s a lot of bread Fred.

Royals could afford it, they chose not to or weren't willing to go 7 yrs. didn't they offer HOS 6 at 120m

Any trade for Duffy has bring back an arm that can be a MLB 1 or 2 starter and 2 arms would be better. The most precious thing in baseball is quality starting pitching and the Royals don’t have much if any on the farm.

Full rebuild? Yeah right. Much easier and smarter to keep the foundation and rebuild around it than to tear everything apart. Hosmer, Perez, Cain. That was the core and will be the toughest to replace.

there's just no way hosmer is worth what kc would have had to pay to keep him. the royals arent winning anything right now, so it really made no sense to try to keep Cain. they need to acquire as much talent as possible. they're basically where the cubs were in 2012 now.

As long as Dayton Moore doesn't flirt with the Braves or another franchise, all is good in the hood for KC. I do NOT believe it will be another 30 years for the Royals to be World Series-good as long as he is in charge of the Royals. When Dayton Moore made the move to get Escobar and Cain from the Brewers farm system, then get James Shields and Wade Davis from the Rays (by trading Wil Myers...wow, MLB is a small world), Alex Gordon was quoted saying he knew KC was finally serious about contending. Dayton has gained a ton of experience and has shown he knows how to make the right moves.

All the in-the-know talk around the Padres right now is that more and more of the right people are buying into the hypothetical stock after this Hosmer deal. This move by Preller and the Padres tells me they are finally starting to get serious about winning pennants and crowns. With Wil Myers, Justin Upton, Hosmer, potentially Hunter Renfroe and others, give it 2 years and the Padres will be able to compete with the Dodgers. You heard it here first!

Justin Upton doesn't play for the Padres any more. With that being said I can't wait for Fernardo Tatis jr to be with the ball club next year. The Trea Turner trade was looking like another one that was going to haunt the franchise but I believe Tatis Jr has more upside and will be better also, super excited about MacKenzie Gore and co, Padres will be a very exciting team to watch, unless, like always they trade away all of thier
