I was mildly surprised to discover on T&L today that we have an equestrian team at State. Why is that team not included on Hailstate.com or the SEC Sports website that lists a number of other schools with equestrian teams?

I suppose so...

My guess would be it's a club sport, same as hockey, men's soccer, etc

Thing is though hockey, or men's soccer makes more sense because the SEC doesn't have those sports. It does have equestrian.

MSU Equestrian is under the Animal Dairy Sciences department. I know a girl who rides at Kentucky and another who rides at Nebraska and I believe those are the same. Nebraska is under their Animal Science division for sure.

Maybe only NCAA oversight sports are on hailstate?

My wife and I were eating at Chick-fil-A in Gadsden, AL one night a few years ago. We saw a couple of adults and some students wearing MSU shirts. That is rather unusual in our neck of the woods. It was State's equestrian team and they were heading to Berry College in Rome, GA for a competition. That was my first exposure to this team.

If they were doing a meet at Berry then they're likely an Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) team. My daughter rides for one at her college.

Equestrian will probably never be NCAA sponsored because it's the only sport, at least at the Olympic level, that has no gender requirements. It would totally screw with the scholarship numbers.

I say let’s teach some baseball players a little horsemanship (which ironically is neither a horse, a man, nor a ship, discuss) and start handing out schollies

It would still count as a baseball scholarship. The hierarchy goes Football, basketball, baseball, everything else IIRC. So your scholarship counts against the total for the highest sport.

I have thought about writing a letter to Leach, Lemonis, and Cohen about the possibility of having a catcher act as holder for field goals. Since a catcher can throw from his knees or jump up quickly and throw, has a good arm, can take hits, and is already used to a helmet, facemask, pads etc., it opens up more of a fake FG threat and would allow us one catcher with a full ride not to count against our limit in baseball.

Does colligate bass fishing have a gender requirement? I would definitely marry a ladies champion bass fisherwoman, provided her boat met my approval.

It's higher than a club sport, but not a full NCAA sponsored sport.

There are only 17 NCAA equestrian programs. Even the 4 in the SEC that have NCAA programs, they also have IHSA programs as well. 576 schools are IHSA.

There are 2 "divisions" English and Western.

Equestrian is an expensive sport to keep, and MSU currently doesn't have the horses required to host events. And unlike the sponsored sports, the team takes care of the horses.

https://www.ads.msstate.edu/eteam/index.html The website is outdated.
