From my perspective PSU is a potential playoff team. Franklin has done a great job recruiting. As a human being, I hate the guy.

As far as the scandal is concerned, their administration, boosters, and many alumni have handled it as bad as you can handle something like this. What they should have done is apologize to the victims and their parents first. Then they needed to apologize to their alumni and students for embarrassing them too. They need to not publicly acknowledge Paterno. They need to throw Joe under the bus.

They need to be proud of their academic institution and their football program, minus Joe.

Umm that's kind of exactly what happened. They fired Joe, removed the statue and aside from his family name on the library (those funds were donated by Joe and Sue paterno and family, not just Joe) there is very little talk around happy valley nowadays about Joe Paterno. What PSU fans talk about is winning a NC this year, Saquon Barkley being the best RB any of us have ever seen and how Franklin is killing it on the recruiting trail.

See where the Sandusky thing comes into play is when loser fans from other programs constantly bring it up in an attempt to ease the pain of knowing they are about to be beat on the football field.

I absolutely guarentee that none of you who constantly bash PSU (you know who you are, the same ones that make the same comments literally any chance they get) could name a single sexual assault case involving a minor that has occurred in the US within the last 5 years, yet you sit back behind your computer screens acting like you have some moral hierarchy, that's total BS.

No what it really boils down to is jealousy and remorse that RU had its window. It was WIDE open to narrow the gap on psu, establish yourselves, keep a jersey recruits at home and overtake psu as a football program. It was there for the taking and your school completely dropped the ball.

Now that course has run its path and psu is back and better than ever with no signs of going backwards as a program, meanwhile you are on here cheering from the rafters when RU gets a recruit that also had an offer from BC and Syracuse claiming he was a P5 recruit.... you will never get over yourselves and will continue to spew the same crap over and over every year but I do have to ask... how pathetic will it sound when 15-20 years from now when RU still hasn't beat PSU since joining the Big 10 when the same people are still on here making the same excuses and Sandusky jokes... talk about little brother syndrome, sheesh!

Personally, I think it would be fun as hell to have a rivalry with Rutgers. I know im not alone in that sentiment, even if a majority of the PSU fan base does not feel that way. As much as Penn State fans don't want to admit it, Ohio State and Michigan are never going to view us with the same level of disdain that they have for each other. It seems to me though that if anybody is going to forge a new rivalry with Penn State in the near future, it is going to be Maryland. Franklin used to coach there, they seem to be righting the ship with Durkin, and people in Happy Valley have not forgot about the handshake that wasn't in a game where they beat us. Like I said, I am all for a rivalry with Rutgers, but it just doesn't seem to be in the cards anytime in the near future.

I too thought there was a perfect opportunity to make some recruiting inroads with a good head coach and assistants, but the Institution chose a different direction, one that had very little to do with sports. It embarked on taking a medical school, spending a mint in the process while starving the football program of the necessary support it needed to be successful in the B10. Hiring Kyle Flood and then a DC from the Midwest with no NJ ties made things slightly more difficult. In a nutshell that is the fundamental difference between our two programs. PSU is all in and the alumni and fans support the program unconditionally. Here, culturally speaking it's a pro sport leaning State so Rutgers doesn't get the same attention as a PSU or Notre Dame etc etc. In my opinion there never has been a rivalry between the schools, some would even make the argument that Graber's teams gave Joe Paterno a tougher time than today's teams. But don't let your guard down because one of these years we are going to catch you just a little flat and beat you.

As an RU fan and alum, if what happened at PSU had occurred at Rutgers, I would have demanded that the program be shut down for a minimum of five years. I believe most RU fans and alums would have demanded the same, and it would have happened without involvement by the NCAA.

Some things are so egregious and wrong that certain actions must be taken, as football is not that important.

I would rather be 0-12 every year than win a national championship with something like that on my alma mater's record.

Therein lies the difference between the two universities.

Yea one ceremony to appease some boosters in 5 years, against Temple for f*cks sake. It brought closure to some fans. It's in the past and I for one didn't care one way or another about that.

Yes one ceremony by the school in 5 years is extremely little talk considering how polorizing he was for that community.

Sorry bud but a halftime ceremony isn't little talk. It's not some 30 second mention of some professor during a TV commercial break. It's a major freaking event.

What's 100% bs? As a Rutgers University alum, football season ticket holder and athletic donor, I unequivocally state that I would immediately drop all support for my college football program and call for it to be shut down, had systemic abuse of dozens of children as well as gross negligence/ignorance by the administration in covering it up come to light.

As an added measure, I'd be tempted to store my two Rutgers degrees in paper bags out of shame that the inherent cult(ure) around 1 demigod (coach) allowed something this egregious to occur.

Well good for you. So as a result you feel justified in trolling the school you hate where horrible things happened and nobody denies that including our fans.

Like I said you already sound pathetic running here to your safe space to spew your hatred of psu along with the 5 other regular psu haters on this board... how embarrassing is it going to be in 10 years when RU is still without a win vs psu and you are still on here doing the same song and dance.... little brother

LOL that's cute; it appears that you came to this thread attempting to be the PSU football fan "voice of reason"; now we're seeing your ugly, sensitive and combative side come out. But do continue, it's quite entertaining to watch you unravel.

By the way, I have posted exactly twice in the past year in a PSU-related thread on this board: once to correct "your" language, and the other time to give reasons why the football coach leading the program "you're" so fervently defending is a jackass for icing Georgia State's game-ending field goal attempt last weekend.

In your fervor to defend all things PSU, you must have had me confused for someone else. I'm just a proud Rutgers alum and football fan who has no illusions about the flaws inherent in my program, yet knows the difference between fandom and dangerously blind loyalty to my program..

You realize it's just a football game? I don't have any vested interest? Right? That being said, Rutgers has been "playing" big time football for about 20 years. They are still years away from a full B1G share of the money. You guys allowed small boys to be raped and a Predator use your facilities for decades. If selling your souls for football doesn't get your program at least to the point it can dominate a school with one two in the water then that's a lot of ruined lives for nothing.

Let's cross our fingers and pray we beat Nebraska this weekend. I think that would be a good first step. Penn State will have their hands full with Iowa. In a few days we'll either feel like the program is improving or we can just start another Sandusky-Paterno-Franklin thread to make ourselves feel better.

Obviously you know PSU is not our rival right, don't you know it's pathetic to recognize a team that doesn't care you exist?

Obviously you know the hockey teams in question are involved in deep hated rivalries with EACH OTHER

PSU says that, their masses of trolls on our boards, and making their home games against us white outs etc. , And general geography of alumni say otherwise.

F Penn State!

It's not just this board. Any time there is a national story about Penn State, comments from fans all across the country are fairly universally united in their hatred for Penn State's culture and how they got off with a slap on the wrist. There is a Howard Stern forum on a website called Dawg Shed, and there is one poster over their who steadfastly defends Penn State, while 99% of the other posters express disgust for what Penn State did.

You guys can be proud of yourselves for whatever you do on the field, but PSU will always be remembered as a program that ignored and/or buried a horrific situation for the good of your beloved football program. And that's all you have--but no soul. And "little brother"? YOU ARE- tone deaf.

Regardless of how many times RU beats Penn State in the next 10 years, I'll take being an RU fan over a fan of your program.

I don't need a Rutgers win or a PSU thread to make me feel better. Would I like to see RU win? Of course but it's not like a loss ruins my day and causes me to beat my wife. Come 7ish, win or lose, I'm still going to sit and eat dinner with my family, open some wine, and get ready for the prime time games. Part of being a fan is knowing it's just a game. I've been a mets fan since I was 8. I couldn't tell you their record over the last 25 games because, well it's the Mets. That being said, my son and I will still take off from work/school opening day next year with hopes of a great season. Same goes for RU if this season goes into the crapper. When you take this stuff too seriously you become the kind of fan who defends rape cover ups.

Hey, minus the wine, that sounds just like me. Leaving the EMU game, there were a couple of fan that looked like they would need medical assistance because they looked like they were going to have an aneurysm. On the car ride, home, we had already moved on, talking about our plans for the evening and the next day. While it would be fabulous to see RU have a winning team, RU's record in sports impacts my happiness 0%. The Mets are a bit of different story, but their season has provided a good amount of comic relief.

And as a case in point on how fans across the nation feel about Penn State, here are some comments to this linked article about Franklin's classy move last week:
http://www.espn.com/college-footbal...-again-denies-icing-georgia-state-kicker-56-0

Scott Roth
I used to like Franklin, but the more I hear him talk the less impressed I am. Not that classy, e.g. Pitt comment (it's called the high road). But if he wins games, folks will just look the other way.

Jay CrownPenn state has become the dirt class of cf with their history and this guy at the helm... it was great to see them blow the rose bowl lead to the pac 12.

These vermin that come over here to share their "facts" with us are exactly why the NCAA needed to keep the sanctions in place. The NCAA failed college football.

Yes. "Success with honor" is the biggest lie and hypocrisy ever propagated by a college and a community. What it really should read is "Success at all costs". And the faithful are still shrouded in that blanket ethos till this day. It's like they think winning will be their salvation. It's really pretty sad.

Who suggested committing a violent act towards a spouse? Who implied that a loss would ruin one's day. I said, Let's cross our fingers and pray we beat Nebraska this weekend. It's not silly. There's no way to stop these threads from popping up, but they get perpetuated indefinitely by certain of your posters who continuously argue the same points over and over and over. And we have at least 1 person who is a firm believer that nothing wrong was done, who flames every time he comes here, and who continuously registers new ID's through Tor just to be able to spew his bile. Put a stop to these people, and threads like this would die.

My point is that no PSU fans would be here if there weren’t three PSU threads going on a daily basis.
