many people (fans?) did zilch--most of the $ is from big givers or big entities and they are firm numbers-- I only wish the common man donated like they do at other schools-maybe then people in power at RU would actually be more willing to listen to the complainers

When we hired a guy from the Urban Meyer coaching tree a few years ago I know I had greater expectations than to be encouraged by moral victories in Year 3 against the likes of Indiana. Finally, FIVE games into the season, a WR makes a TD??? Whooppee! (It didn't even happen against TEXAS STATE.) People are happy because something that is routine in today's game for everyone else finally happened in game 5? That's pretty close to rock bottom.

Exactly, Indiana is a team that we beat our first two years in the conference. Being OK with yesterday is a pathetic standard, especially considering we were blown out by a MAC team and KU.

maybe it's not all on the coach, the AD or RU administration--maybe its the inferiority complex of our fans and the state of NJ that always sees ,and seems to actually want ,the grass to be greener next door --you have parents that will spend $70000 a year to pay for as good ,or less, education than you can get from RU --worst of all, like some on here, will never say anything good about RU--they love to eat their own as if that is a positive or even warranted--and this is not even about sports by any longshot

Well then the only comment I can offer now is I would NEVER HIRE YOU to be my attorney as you would come across as a know it all self righteous pompass *** if you talked with that kind of attitude in court. Oh and I will never back down from my comments regarding you.
And you come across as a triggered snowflake. Please return to your puppies and coloring books.

The vast majority of those who post here gave NADA and will continue to give NADA. If the AD openly started a fund to pay what we owe ASH to get a real coach MOST about 95% of the “Hard Core” all on this and the other site will do what they have always done. Give NOTHING but have plenty of opinions and complaints.

We will NEVER be like other big time schools. NJ is such a unique place---- people will NEVER eat sleep breathe Rutgers football, there is just too much going on. There is too much outside influence from other states/schools to create a strong state bond around our state university. Those who keep saying that we need to be more like other major programs in regards to donations and fan support need to keep this in mind.

How many candidates did Hobbs interview before hiring Ash?

I also want Ash gone. I would hope that Hobbs learned and wouldn’t repeat same mistake again.

I stopped reading after you suggested we fire an athletic director who fundraised 100 million in less than 3 years for our athletic teams when we haven't done that in probably 15.
As I mentioned in another thread, if the reason Hobbs is so great is his fundraising prowess, I don't want to hear about the $8 million buyout and Ash should be gone at the end of this year. If $8 million is enough to keep us from getting rid of Ash, then Hobbs isn't good enough at the one thing people give him credit for so why exactly are we keeping him around?

Well said. Hobbs is certainly close enough with RU’s major Boosters to raise the money for a buyout of the HC, as well as a partnership on paying the new coaching staff.

This was the problem when Julie was AD. She wanted to can Flood (one of her only accomplishments) but didn’t have enough credibility w RU’s major boosters to raise the funding to do it. That gave RU fans an extra year of Flood as HC. That also told me that Julie had to go as AD.

Hobbs will not have that problem with our boosters IMO.

But what if the major boosters don't think that Ash should be fired after 3 seasons? That's a different problem. Also consider that some coaches may be deterred seeing that it is pretty well known that the program was left in shambles by Flood, and firing the new coach after only 3 years shows that RU will fire the next coach if he does not perform after 3 years.

That raises a fair question--how many years should the next coach be given for a rebuild?

There's a difference between not completing a rebuild in 3 years (a judgement I can agree would be too hasty) and still regressing after 3 years (which is where we are now). What about our OL and DL recruiting could possibly make one think we will be better in a few years?

Fair question.
Posters love to post examples of where coaches made it all work at year 3, but I can find plenty of examples where year 3 showed regression, and the coach stayed on and succeeded. I am not saying/predicting that will happen (but if it does, I will haunt every poster who wanted Ash fired :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:).

I'd rather not have to make a change, because the program has already invested 3 years into Ash. I am just not seeing the trend in recruiting that gives me any hope we will have the offensive and defensive lines to be successful a few years from now.

One other scary point.
Of the top 7 players that made tackles in the Indiana game, 6 are seniors.

it was said elsewhere (maybe by Politi?), that citing up to a 6 year rebuild may be the single most dumb thing ever stated by a football coach...why would anybody ever come here and waste 4 years with a team the coach acknowledged can't compete in their time here.

Similar to Miami U before the right people took over the program. We need New Jersey people with a “don’t give a crap about what others think” attitude. Throw up the middle fingers and represent the people and our interests

Good show. However it is ironic that you flamed me for calling the coach names and here you are engaging again in the very behavior you claim to abhor.
You may be right I do not recall calling you a name. but hey I am old and may have forgotten. And I never called him a name. I said I would never hire him as he comes across as a know it all self righteous pompass *** and in my opinion that would be detrimental to my winning my case. He then called me some kind of snowflake - which I have no idea what it is - so I called him a pomopass ***. Please note I showed him respect by saying Mr. pompass ***.
I guess I am from the old school of respect. There are many words in the English language which will allow anyone to express their opinion in a non derogatory and inflammatory manner. I have no problem with someone expressing their opinion. My problem is the manner in which they do so
I can name 3 other posters who used to - and at times still come across abrasive to say the least - but I have seen less of it from them So maybe some are getting my point. If this make me Johnny do gooder and a polyanna so be it

Disagree. We've seen Louisville 2006.

Spend the money on a big time coach that can recruit, run a high scoring offense, win, and they will come. And with that, top recruits will come, more wins will come, more money will come.

You go cheap on the foundation, you get the results we've gotten with Flood and Ash.

That's very brave of you, but I will not do that to you or others.
And even as one of the most optimistic posters here, I don't think RU will go 8-4.
Next year, maybe.

It's not getting better any time soon this year and next year will be even worse.
We are losing several starters on the already porous OL and have few good backups in the waiting. Same with the DL.
Linebacker position is weak.
How about the cornerback and safety positions.

The recruiting this year is mediocre at best.
At the end of the day is the trajectory of this program on the rise or on a freefall.
Is Ash able to recruit successfully in NJ. Rhetorical question.
Has Ash instilled enthusium in the fan base and with NJ recruits.

How would you grade Ash on his assistant coach hires. Why is RU like a revolving door with assistant coaches. Great for consistency and recruiting

Finally, Hobbs hired Ash. He should be held accountable table.

Next year is very likely to be a 1-11 or at best a 2-10 season.
The “rebuild “ that Ash proclaims needs 6 years is pure BS . There is no foundation, the Recruiting is horrible. Hobbs and the RU Administration will see millions lost next year when we have a 25% decline in renewals and lost Parking Concessions, donations, etc.
Hobbs needs to act now.

I would like to see what the rest of our October games are like before making a final judgment on Ash. If we show the kind of improvement we had this week from Buffalo to Indiana, there may actually be hope that he is rebuilding the program.

Well, if it came from Politi he should know. He's said a lot of dumb things himself.
