Enough already with the microphones, ESPN.

We don’t need to hear every sound that happens at the stadium. In fact, it’s contributing to the two main problems at the CWS because they have given a bigger stage to the whistlers and the umps.

The umps are supposed to be neutral and essentially invisible, yet they decided to give them more attention than they deserve. If it makes any difference at all to the way a single umpire behaves, then it is affecting the outcome of the games.

Yeah. Hearing every word the plate umpire said got real old after about 5 minutes.

If they are going to do it, you think they would do like the NFL and put some highlights together. Not have a hot mic all game.

I like it. Just waiting for one to take a foul off the arm and say 17 real loud.

There’s usually a 7 second delay on a live feed. They mute the bad words most of the time.

I feel like they try to turn College Baseball into MLB during the CWS. Maybe it's just me, but I feel like a big percentage of college baseball fans aren't big MLB fans, and those that are introduced to college baseball during the CWS aren't getting a true representation of what we watch all year in college baseball bc of ESPN trying to make it like MLB. Almost like they commercialize it during Omaha, and many of us college baseball fans are drawn to college baseball bc it is Not commercialized during the rest of the year. But again, I may totally be speaking for myself, and that explanation may make zero sense.

Part of me wonders if that's why college baseball viewership isn't growing too much....maybe if they saw the game the way we see it the first 60 games, they'd fall for it like we do. Maybe not.

It all started with Harold Reynolds back in the early 2000’s. He’d spend 5 minutes with a player before the game and then get on air and act like he’s known them forever. I recall him saying that Scott Polk was warming up in the pen and that he was Ron Polk’s son. The story was that one of the players told him that to mess with him.

Since then, that’s the way ESPN has approached the CWS. They treat it similar to the LLWS in that they downplay the seriousness of it and present it like it’s an exhibition where all that matters is if you have fun. They just wait for a team to take the lead so they start making them the darlings of the CWS. They did that with Auburn on Sunday.

Interviewing a baseball head coach while the game going on is the most stupid thing ever.

I totally agree with this too. Not only do they clearly not want to be interviewed, but the interviews usually suck bc it's all quick coach speak "one pitch at a time", "gotta string some hits together", "need to throw strikes" type BS anyway. It's pointless and you can feel how annoyed the coaches are through your tv

I do enjoy seeing Pulmonary being interviewed during a game (prior to the CWS) because he seems more bothered by it than anyone by far.

THIS. They don't treat college football or basketball like it's some sort of Sunday afternoon after church dinner-on-the-grounds fun fest. Hokey music, emphasis on dugout antics, crazy fans in the stands, beach balls, etc.
