Nice backhanded compliment, but this is pretty much Exhibit A of the difference between Husker fans and Hawkeye fans.
Iowa fans tend to set low expectations for their program, assume that any success achieved in the past can never be achieved again, and are resigned to the notion that past history is the only predictor of future success (i.e., they've never won a national championship or sustained a presence at an elite level before; therefore, they never will). That's why Iowa is comfortable paying millions for 5-loss Ferentz and making excuses for underachieving.
Meanwhile, we know we've been down (if you can consider winning 9 games or more in 8 out of the last 10 years "down", since many programs--including Iowa--would kill for that kind of consistency), but we have a bigger picture view than Iowa. We see how other storied programs have gone though down cycles--Oklahoma under John Blake, Alabama under Dubose and Shula, USC under everyone not named Carroll, Michigan under Rich Rod and Hoke, Texas under Strong)--only to bounce back when the right coach was hired. And with the resources and tradition of Nebraska, we know that we can do the same.
Now, will Nebraska ever have another run like the 90s? Maybe, maybe not. But unlike Iowa, we won't automatically assume that we can't, and we won't settle for annual 7 win seasons and embarrassing home losses to directional schools.
