Interesting. I cannot see him playing PF. That was because there were no other options last year. I also am not sure I see him starting SF, as a big plus this year would be the spacing the new SF crew brings out to the 3pt line. I think he backs up Brown.

Given all the wings we brought in the door, I have to think this is for potential PF depth, even though Dan indicated Sha doesn't want to play small.

He been on campus since near the beginning of school. The question will be as a 5th year player will he be eligible?

I'll post more here below

Well, he’s eligble for now under the California injunction. Let’s see how things shake out. Holloway indicates that he will use him as backup at PF, mostly for defense. So shouldn’t impact the perimeter rotation.

Why is it always the Wusu’s of the world that come back and not the Kadary’s. 😩oof
Even still, he was a glorified starter but still solid-at-times in a role that really was not ideal. To have him come back for a second year and this time be a backup has to show we are going in the right direction, no? Especially at this stage after losing out on some other options hes not a bad outcome.

I can't keep up, what is our current depth chart for SF and PF along with player heights if anyone recalls this...Seems we have Devin Williams and then a slew of 6'6/6'7 tweeners with various skill sets.

I’d say from a height perspective the only on the small side is Fisher. SFs has some nice length

The Power Forwards (PF)

Player NameHeightWeight
Devin Williams6'10"210 lbs
Ilay Dolinski (pf?)6'9"225 lbs
Elijah Fisher6'6"220 lbs

The Small Forwards (SF)

Player NameHeightWeight
Mayar Wol6'8"196 lbs
Theo Airhienbuwa6'7"205 lbs
Rodney Brown Jr.6'6"185 lbs

I don’t understand the thought process of our GM to let a 2nd team all BigEast PG leave because of money. Not sign any true PG. Then buy 8 versions of the same player.

I’m sure there’s more to it, but at surface level it just seems very odd.

I suppose. Problem is, who are the odd guys out now? Do we have a 15 man roster? Going to be some disgruntled players very quickly.

If eligible I would not be surprised if Fisher is our starting PF. That is how Sha rolls - can read in his comments that guys get better under him in year two and he will trust Fisher to stay with guys on defense even bigger guys and cause matchup problems for said bigger PFs. Let's see. I think Copeland and Williams platoon at center, Williams PF depending on matchups.

I hear you. I would argue that Mihailo Petrovic is as true a PG as you'd find in today's game. How much he'll play is another thing but a true PG does exist on our roster

I think that's a possibility also but many people are saying he's most likely going to play a reserve role. Will be interesting to see how he's used but I hope we don't go small again and play Williams at the 4 with Copeland at the 5. I thought part of the reason Fisher struggled last year was because he played out of position in the BE

From every indication I have been given, this summer Williams and Wilcher were our two best players. Sight unseen, and with that info I cannot see Williams not starting at the 4.

Especially with another 6’6/6’7 player at Center. Last year we could sort of get away with it having size at C but not now
I know we've discussed this before but I'm just not seeing Copeland being 6'6/6'7, at least in one of the recent insta posts he looks taller than Theo who's listed around 6'7 1/2.

I think he's 6'8 tops. Just my guess from tape and photos. But he makes up for it with strength and motor

I was told indirectly from a staff member that he's 6-7 1/2 with the strength of a bull.

I think Fisher needs to be the backup 4 to fit into the current roster construction, we need the spacing that Brown, Thomas, and Wol bring at the 3 otherwise 3pt shooting isn't much different than last year.

I'm not sure where Fisher fits in. Copeland and Williams could be our 2 best/important players and should start and play 25 minutes or so at the 4 & 5.
I thought Brown & Thomas at 6'6" and 6'5" and our 2 best 3 point shooters would split the 40 minutes at the 3. We have plenty of guards to cover the 1 & the 2 so no need to play them there. We also have back up at the 3 in Wol who is a better shooter than Fisher also.

I like Fisher for his D and toughness but I think with this team we need to have shooters at the 3 spot.

Platoon at center like last year. I think this is definitely consistent with what Sha would do.
I will be shocked if he starts at pf. I think he is more likely to not be cleared than he is to start

And, he started last yr at pf cause we didnt have a healthy PF.

I know I'm just saying I can see Sha doing that. Or maybe I am just scarred by constantly being undersized and Sha constant starting lesser players because of some intangible/defense reason none of us can actually see, like Wusu type situation

The bench was so thin when Wusu was on the team. Fisher is a good defender and should find decent spot minutes on this team when the situation warrants.
