How long before this trickles down to the college game? Not soon enough, I know that.

Pitcher Mitch Atkins noticed that pitches higher in the strike zone were called strikes, something that is often missed.

"Technically, they're strikes, but umpires never called them," Atkins said.

This will be the biggest adjustment to make and effect on the game today..... strike zone will truly be letters to knees. It’s going to become a pitchers game with that strike zone.

I think the strike zone will get taller and thinner, not necessarily bigger.

But my heart needs the work-out it gets when I see an umpire call a pitch in the opposite batter's box a strike.

The dropped third strike rule is one of the dumbest in baseball and so will be stealing first base

This can be adjusted, I'm sure. I mean, the computer calling balls and strikes is only doing what it was programmed to do. So if they wanted to adjust the strike zone downward or upward, that can be done. The key is that what's called a strike in the 1st inning will be called a strike every other inning. The most frustrating thing is a strike zone that is constantly changing, and batters and pitchers can never adjust.

Yep, college umps nor major league umps will really give you much above the waist. However, some college umps will give batter's box line to batter's box line for the inside and outside pitches. I've seen college umps call pitches strikes that are so far outside that you could not have reached it with a cane pole.

I agree. And also isn't the strike zone 3 dimensional? So pitches that catch any part of the 3D zone at any point should be strikes, right? Assuming that's right I think it's going to open up the zone big time for good breaking ball pitchers who can just nip the zone before dropping it off the table or sweeping sliders that look like their caught in the other box box catch some of the zone on the way out. Would certainly drive down offensive numbers, which I'm sure would be an unintended consequence.

I think it helps hitters more than pitchers. No more BS calls off the plate

I've never seen a bird's eye view of the plate with the zone super-imposed over it, so is the black of the plate technically part of it? I always considered that a strike. There's a book titled Living on the Black about pitchers. Will the electronic zone take this away?
