I was pretty salty when he left. After all these years I’m glad to see him back.

There has been a hole in that lineup since the day he left.

While hindsight is 20/20 and it was a lot of money at the time, that franchise has been in a gradual decline since the ink dried on that deal.

The angels have been in decline or the cards? I would agree about the angels but the cards had some very good years following pujols leaving. Obviously, recently not as much.

Really that first year or 2 there wasn't much drop off when you compare his replacement Allen Craig to Pujols first cpl years in Cali, Craig was a big part in getting us right back to the WS in 13, then for whatever reason he forgot how to hit. I believe the Cards believed Craig would still be playing 1b in stl, so the actual hole in the lineup has been since Craig quit hitting like Albert (like the 12-13 Albert, not the 01-11 Albert) and was traded for Lackey.

This jekyll and Hyde team we have now has me watching fewer games than I've ever watched.

I couldn’t tell you about the Angels because I don’t follow them. Come to think of it, my interest in the Cardinals is trending in the same direction as the franchise.

Haha I can understand that. I apparently like to be frustrated and continue to watch.

Ah, that explains the outrageous ticket prices. I checked stubhub for the Friday & Saturday games - had thought about stopping there on the way back from Omaha and catching a game. Prices for the few tickets available were about 4-5 times what I paid for some last year.

I’m looking at going for my birthday for the Pirates series. It’s not the tickets that are crazy. It’s the hotel rooms. I paid almost $100 less a night during opening weekend.

My wife and I went last summer and stayed at the Hyatt Regency right next to the Arch. Nice hotel and even had a view with the arch out our window for about a hundred bucks a night. We sat in the infield Redbird Club for 15 dollars a seat.

The cheapest tickets I saw for last night were $60 GA / standing room only. Any actual seat was over $100. Needless to say, I did not go to the game.

I wasn’t even looking at the opponent & making the connection with Pujols - I just wanted to stop by for a game on our way home. I figured maybe they were doing something with the Blues that had the tickets so high.

I usually stay at the Drury by the arch. They’ve raised their prices since last year. Stayed at the Hyatt back in April. They’ve even raised their prices since April.

The Cardinals will continue to be in decline until they realize that Mo is the main problem and fire him. Most fans are starting to figure this out now that they have changed coaching staffs and managers and see things like Mike Leake still on the payroll.

MOron is not technically the GM but he is the worst front office guy in MLB by far.
130 million for Goldschmidt through 2024 (an overhyped K machine)
60 million for Yadi’s final 3 (he’s gotten lazy and sloppy in his old age)
40 million for Karpenter’s extension (he’s a zero tool player)
80 million for Fowler signing through 2021 (nothing need be said-awful in all aspects of the game)
30 million for cecil’s worthless *** (prolly won’t get 5 productive innings in his 4 years)

When all those contracts play out, the dumbass will have invested 340 mill for a combined negative WAR. Just a clueless bow tie wearing dipshit that is in the process of ruining one of the historically best franchises in MLB.

You're correct that he is not the GM in title. The only contract I don't mind is Yadi because he is a Cardinals legend and I'm OK taking care of players like that plus the Cardinals have the money to do it. Taking care of players like that are what make the Cardinals the Cardinals. And honestly while some may disagree the Cardinals should have done the same with Pujols. The way I look at it with players like that is the Cardinals are paying for their earlier years when they were inexpensive.

All the other contracts I agree 100% with. It's not that the Cardinals aren't willing to spend money. It's that they spend money on the wrong players. And that is all 100% on the GM.

Also the Tommy Pham trade has been very one sided and may go down as one of the worst in franchise history. Especially since they could use him in CF right now.

What pisses me off is the whole lineup and 25 man roster revolve around Karpenter hitting leadoff. He’s a liability in the field, at the plate, and on the bases. He sux. He blocked pham at leadoff and Luke voit at 1st so the dumb 17 GM traded ‘em and they’ll both be all stars with their new team. All we got in return is Gallegos. Not wishing injuries but it wouldn’t bother me if Karpenter found the IL for the next 2.5 years. That’s right. MOron extended him for 2 more years. Idiot.

I understand goldschimdt is not having his best season but he’s not overhyped. He’s the best player the cards have had since Matt H.

SF Giants front office is giving the Cards a run for worst moves recently. Giants have paid out the *** for Cueto, Melancon, Samardzija, Bumgarner, Belt, Posey, Crawford, Longoria and Bumgarner for very little production. $138 million this year for those 9 players alone. Not one of them is anywhere close to giving All-Star level or even above average production. One of them might be dead.** (Major League reference)

You're correct. Carpenter's issue is he is trying to be a pull heavy home run hitter when he needs to use the entire field. Especially given his other limitations that you mentioned. He holds himself and the team back. At any rate he's a complimentary piece and not a centerpiece.

The fact that he’s the best player they’ve had since Holliday is sad. Goldwhiff is done. On pace for 200 whiffs this year. His bat is slow.
