With 11 days until kickoff, they have pulled their varsity season due to not having the ability to field a varsity team.

It is unfortunate that news like this has become more and more common

I wish that we could go back to a 5 class system and let the dogs battle it out

this sucks

I remember Decatur had Lakeview,Stephen Decatur both closed now. They & Eisenhower,St.Teresa & MacArthur all fielded healthy football teams but that was before Decatur changed & not for the better

Over 900 enrollment. So say 400 boys lowballing the #. Say 200 upperclassmen. Out of that even 150 lowball can’t get 30 out for football???? Or even bring up 6 or 7 sophs 30 to 35 players. Ofc Tinley won with 25 in 86 well 26 they moved up
A soph & had over 1,000 kids. According to Max Preps who usually isn’t correct Eisenhower had 26 guys coming back this year many Frosh & sophs from last year so if they all came back & you added about 5 Frosh that’s 31 kids. Not great but a team

--Enrollment down 20% in the last 5 years, currently in the low 800s.
--Last in playoffs in 2016. 6 wins and 66 losses since then.
--History of better players transferring to Decatur MacArthur.
--Dressed 28 players against Rochester last season.
--Had 25 or fewer players show up to 1st day of practice (All Grades).

Was there early 90s for their game against MacArthur when a huge fight broke out and somebody yelled, "GUN". Everybody hit the deck including the coaches n players on the field. Cops and police dogs everywhere! People screaming, running, brawling and getting arrested. After about 45 minutes, the all clear was given and the game resumed like nothing ever happened. That was my welcome to Decatur moment 💪 Fond memories!

A city built by unions for 150,000 residents... housing less than 80k... driven by the old industrial mantra... reliant on agriculture... subjected to shady corporate nonsense (ADM), constant racial tension, lack of quality local government, a very serious "gang" problem, and stuck with a poor image because no one drives to Danville to see how it can easily get worse, very quickly, thus labeling it the worst place in Illinois for decades now, whether that be true or not.

No matter how folks spin it, all central IL cities are the same imo. Decatur gets a bad wrap because it's smaller, so the data stands out more. And the smell of soy being processed isn't pleasant. That much is true.

I would say consolidate the high schools, but neither could probably house 1,500 kids at once. So you'd have to split the campuses, similar to how Quincy used to have Senior High I and Senior High II for upper/lower classman. The fear as I've been told is the crime and occurrences that come with stuffing a whole city into one school... similar to the arguments against switching up the Springfield district schools in recent years. Southeast and Lanphier folks weren't too keen on each other.

All this said, Ike's athletic director is getting absolutely torched online... so I'd venture to say that might be where I'd make the first change to attempt to correct this.

No fight, but a group of fine outstanding citizens lifted their shirts to reveal the heat they were packing to us at a game at Peoria Stadium in 2006. My mother happened to be next to an officer and also heard the call that a group were brandishing weapons near the locker rooms. We didn't even shower that night. We just got off the pads, hopped on the bus and didn't stop til we turned into the McDonalds in Canton. Fond memories!

ADM if you remember took Lakeview who just a few short years earlier had poured big $$$ into renovations after the tank cars exploded. Same common denominator destroyed Decatur that did Danville, Urbana & others

the ad is the head coach. where are seeing this online? net-se.
FB... folks aren't kind, but no one on that social platform really ever is. I don't remember which comment section you'll have to look at the handful that exist, but it had a minimum 20 comments, probably more but I didn't spend more than 3 mins reading them, to the tune of he's "worthless, not doing his job, and not well liked" in other words.

Ope... you right though.

I just find central IL so funny... this is all in jest btw, if you live in these towns who cares, we all have problems...

Quincy = Forgotonia, irrelevance, ADM barge docking station, bodies in the river, fights amongst whites, "we like trees"
Jacksonville = truck stop, square, rusty ferris wheel, prison town
Springfield = oligarchy, homeless tent cities, one-way streets, Abe, smoody suburbs, country folk revival festival (state fair)
Decatur = the smell, death by factory, look at our lakeside ampitheatre, fried food, trains, most potholes in roads per capita on earth, ewwww that smell, did I mention that?
Danville = casino, PJ's in public, windbreakers, possom trot supper clob, almost to Indiana
Chambana = college, college, college, we have a big college, and a hospital, claim "we da best" a lot like they're DJ Khaled
BloNo = electric SUV, college, scamsurance capital of the world, beer nuts, upscale rural dining aka normal very average brick and mortar restaurants
Peoria = Cat, cats, caterpillars, river, the OG CIL City, where dat whiskey go?
Taylorville = nope, 10 foot pole rule in effect
Macomb = what's in mapocket... Leathernecks, the dump known as Hanson Field, train stop
Mattoon/ChuckVegas = Jimmy G, Tony "DUI" Romo, Sean Payton, average bagels, THE Burger King
Litchfield = Chicago deep dish in a small town vibes
Pittsfield = Yogi Bear Campground
Rantoul = Planes, Reindeer poop
Beardstown = We have the meats, and the mosquitos to prove it
Havana = not a Cuban sandwich in sight...
Lincoln = Lincoln
Tuscola = outdoor ghost mall
Galesburg = Carrrrrl...Sandburg, trains, da Knox
Monmouth = Wyatt muthafreaking Earp

Poor Ike, hopefully they figure it out in Soy City.
