Serious question:

How many of you on this board were in the student section for that game?

That was my father’s senior year in high school. He was a freshman at State the following year since he was still seventeen years old and then joined the Navy and fought World War II in the Pacific.

My dad was on that 41 team , was actually co-captain. He always thought that team was better than the 40 team that was undefeated! No doubt our best chance for a natty, so far…!

Disregarding Bama's ********, who really did win the natty that year? And how high did we finish in the polls?

Was Billy Murphy also nicknamed Spook and went on to become AD at Memphis State?

We were 16th. Georgia was the highest ranked SEC team at 14th. Tennessee was 18th and Bama was 20th.

Ole Miss finished 17th after their loss to State which was for the conference title.

Now that we have an actual team sport national championship, it’s time to claim both the 1940 and 1941 football National championships. Hang the banners and make some noise on national championships. Maybe there are some more out there we can grab.

I had 2 uncles that were enrolled at State back then. After WWII one of them returned to get his degree and then went to Perdue for his masters. He then returned to State where he taught for 30 years in Electrical Engineering. The endowed chair for head of the EE dept. is named in his honor. The other uncle completed his BS degree at USMA in West Point. He got a masters at Ga. Tech.
