Texas quarterback Sam Ehlinger considers Saturday’s performance at West Virginia to be one of the worst he has had since his freshman season. But he also pointed out that it would have been considered a great performance at that stage of his career.

“He told me ‘That’s maybe my worst game in last 10-15 games,” said Texas coach Tom Herman. “‘And we’d have been begging for a game like that my freshman year.'”

Ehlinger was 18-of-33 for 211 yards with two touchdowns and an interception, but misfired on several easy throws on sideline routes. He also was fortunate that the Mountaineers didn’t come away with two more interceptions on a couple of his misses that drifted into interceptable range.

Too early to tell if that was our A game or what. I am more worried about our C game. C games get you beat like Oklahoma State did against Texas Tech.

I am not taking anything from that game. More worried about the performance against Iowa State.

Texas is definitely the most over hyped, under performing, team annually in college football. If they were in the SEC they would be lucky to win a game or two each season. I'd say pathetic but am a little sorry for them. Poor old Saghorns.

Ehlinger is a better runner than passer...always has been, and probably always will be. He doesn't appear to have the arm talent to "make all of the throws" to be a starting NFL quarterback. His throws across the field often bounce off of the turf before getting to a receiver.

Before moving on...

Ehlinger
18-33 / long 34
211 yards
54.5% comp rate
6.4 yds a completion
2 TD / 2 rush TD / contributed 4
1 int
3 sacks
8/14 3rd down includes 3 runs 50% conversion Take out the runs and he's 5/11 3rd down passing that's 45.4%

Kendall
31-46 / long 44
367 yards
67.4% comp rate
8.0 avg
3 TD / 1 rush TD? contributed 4
4 int
0 sacks
4/8 on 3rd down includes 1 rush 50% conversion take out the run and it's 3/7 passing 3rd down 42.8%

I swear some of you don't even watch the game but only focus on the negative. There were very few times we went 3 man rush. Showing 3 man front is different than actually having a 3 man front. Some of those 3 man fronts were disguised 4 man fronts. But please continue to only focus on Kendall INT and pretend Ehlinger played great.

With the 4 INT Texas had 82 plays to WVU 69 plays. The more plays you get the more shots you get and adds TOP.

Texas 36:04 WVU 23:56

Your DC told ESPN before the game he knew Texas wasn't going to run Ehlinger on the zone reads so he could cheat with his DL on the RB.
Todd McShay said this on air.

You didn't face the full arsenal of Texas' offense.
No reason to before RRS.

So says the guy who's team was not performing. We have used the same excuse when playing bad.

No excuse here. Just the truth. Plus Ehlinger didn't practice much in those two weeks to give Casey Thompson reps.

Regarding WVU. It is how they come out against Iowa State.
I don't think anyone thinks you are going to see the same Texas team next week. Especially with Kansas after RRS.

WVU needs to come out with the same intensity against Iowa St.
But Purdy won't be afraid to run on those zone reads so you won't be able to crash on the RB.
Iowa State doesn't have the WRs that Texas has so I think you can provide bracket coverage on Jones and force the other WRs into deep routes by using your LBs in coverage.

But Iowa State is going to have a very similar Defense.
Called the inverted Tampa 2. I think Kendall should be used in the run game.
A lot of space especially since Iowa State has slower LBs.

Maybe he can just blame it all on his receivers. Oh that's right, good QBs leaders and coaches don't do that

Ehlinger knew Van Vark was the ref the game was in the bag. Supposedly he is a Texas fan but he is from Iowa.

Mike Defee possibly.

But WV didn't get anything called on them. Guess Van Vark doesn't get a bonus this year.

You can't minus the four interceptions, T-Bone. QBR for each: Ehlinger - 70.2, Kendall - 30.5. Your dinner has been served. Now, take your propaganda campaign to bed, and rest up for Saturday when Kendall will have the chance to redeem himself.

Austin Kendall 367 yards. Puked up and tossed in your face. QBR is just another stat like all the others. What do say Bucky? You love those stats. Does it make you feel better or just feel yourself?

QBR is a number based upon a group of statistics, and not just one that you cherry pick, T-Bone. How many of those 367 yards were put up after Texas had built an 18 point lead in the Second Half, and the outcome was no longer in doubt? Moreover, yards don't win games; points win games. It is difficult to score enough points to win when your offense has more turnovers than Spring Hill Bakery.

Yeah Kendall is so good 24/7 ranked him last in the Big12. But he obviously played better than Ehlinger [eyeroll]

Why can't you minus the 4 picks? It makes his performance so much better without them!

Kendall had to win the game by himself.
Helps with the yards and hurts him on the interceptions.

Going after Kendall as if Kendall is a problem is stupid.
He didn't have much of a run game to work with and they pretty much expected him to throw the ball on every down.

Starts up front.
Starts with Joe Wickline and his failures. The new coaching staff was shocked that Dana was there for that long and left not much on the OL.

So Neal Brown pretty much has to find a way to generate offense with an inexperience QB.
The last three weeks you have seen an improvement.
By November Kendall is going to be a strength of this team and if WVU makes a bowl game it will be because of Kendall.
