wasn’t there some scuttlebutt about him being a possible candidate for NU at the time we hired Mr. Rogers?

At that time Ed O was a DL coach and wanted to be the DC, Riley went with Banker.

There’s a reason Eichorst has an ***. Job(heavy emphasis on ***) at Texas now.
Just goes to show you that when you get to a certain level of a boys club, you can continually get hired no matter how pathetic of a job you do. Cue Eichorst and Riley as exhibits A and B.

IIRC, Riley was told at a P.C. that Ed had expressed interest and would take a call from Riley, and Smiley said something like...”well that is nice”...

I wanted Orgeron as defensive coordinator even if it was only for a year or two. The man can recruit with the best of them and would've certainly increased the talent level at a minimum. He learned from his failure at Ole Miss and wasn't afraid to hire good assistants. Good for him.

Many people at LSU was ready for him to go before he literally lucked in to getting Burrow. I wouldn't bet on him long term still.

Why? They recruit like crazy, he’s a motivator, players love him, he hires the best of the best for assistants, and then gets the heck out of their way.

Sounds like a pretty darn good recipe to me.

Because he was more of the same old being the little brother to Alabama until they got Burrow. I just dont see them beating Alabama again once he's gone. This year was the perfect storm with Burrow being out of this world, Tua hurt, and their defense playing a ton of freshmen because of injuries.

Well, actually, Ed recognized they needed to throw the ball more to take advantage of the athletes they attract. They will continue to run Spread and said they realized they need better passers. He made a good call on that.

He sure did, but he will NEVER get another qb that will even come close to playing as well as Burrow and dont count on Alabama losing 4 defensive starters before the season and replacing them with Freshmen. Again, perfect storm.

Maybe, but that team looks pretty talented top to bottom. And the recruits just keep rolling in.

Problem is they really dont look any more talented then they have the last decade plus, especially on the defensive side of the ball. The big difference being quarterback

Did you watch the back up QB come in and march right down the field for a TD. IMO, the key will be if they can pay their OC enough to keep him at LSU. I believe that your assertion of them never getting another QB who will come close to playing as well as Burrow is a little premature. They always have great athletes in the trenches and at the skill positions. All a QB has to do is be average to be successful with the weapons they have.

Sure did and he will be a massive downgrade. The fact that you think another QB is going to set SEC and NCAA records for them like Burrow did this year is actually kind of funny. The fact that he set all these records and they could have easily lost three games this year tells alot.

Ed is a great recruiter. Everyone has known that for a long time. His past coaching record is mediocre at best. yes, he was definitely lucky to have Burrow this year. I travel to Louisiana four or five times a year for business. I have had LSU fans told me that basically their coaching staff recruits a bunch of thugs and then tries to keep them out of jail. Most schools don’t have that “luxury“.

Even with what's likely a mediocre head coach, just look at what hiring great assistants gets you. LSU emphasizes getting the best assistants they can possibly get and look at the results they've been having. They've been a great program the last two decades and now they have their best team yet.

Don’t expect Frost to follow that model.
