The Johnnies beat UMBC tonight by 20 or 22. UMBC just barely lost to Wake Forest the other night. The Johnnies blocked over 10 shots. Missini handled the ball well and was I think about 8-8 on free throws. Johnson the Pitt transfer I think was like 4-4 on 3's. It looks like they have improved a lot since the St. Thomas exhibition game. Sima had 6 or 7 blocks.

Mostly freshmen starters. Do you think Mullen will do any better than EJ in his
first year without any college coaching experience?
Quite frankly, I thought that our team from last year would have beaten this SJU team badly.
We'll see on thursday night.

I think we'll beat them on Thurs. but give that staff a couple of years and they may bring the Johnnies back to their glory days.

I have no idea how good any of these teams are - nor RU, for that matter.

UMBC was 4-26 last season, by the way ... including losing last year to Howard by 15 or so. They also lost their top scorer and another starter from last year's team.

Of course, RU lost its top TWO scorers from last year.

Howard was 16-16 last year. But they lost their 2nd best scorer from last year.

UMass was 17-15 last year (beat Howard, but in a close game, this year). UMass lost their top 2 scorers from the prior season.

Wake Forest was 13-19 last season, but returns ALL their players.

I have no idea what any of this means. I know that on Thursday we will find out how RU can play ... for that one game ... versus St. Johns. But I will still not know what this might lead to the rest of the season. Three games is not enough body of work.

George Washington has a good coach.
And a seriously solid roster of players. Oddly, 2 NJ players from tiny Gill St. Bernard's (Alex Mitola, Jared Sina), who I assume have small roles. Garino, the player from Argentina, is seriously good.

That St. Johns guard Missini is pretty darn good.....he has that " IT Factor " and hits shots. Import from Italy that plays with a swagger. I like that guy.

Is Ellison doing well ?

I'd be surprised if our young team can win a road game against any Big East team. It will say something about the potential of this group if they do so.

ST.Johns probably will be at least a 8 point favorite based on perception and home court advantage.

this game is a toss up. I lean with SJU here because they are playing at home

I am used to years of getting screwed by big east refs when we played them...... still won't trust the refs here, despite some of the refs we hated so much, retiring.
