Raiola's always been good at dropping the mid-range floater into the bread basket. Now, if Oregon can convince him to set his feet and fire the damned ball when the situation calls for it, they'll really have something. But color me skeptical.
Nebraska's conundrum is no decent player who wants to improve and make the league will ever play for Nebraska, and if we ever get a high rated player they are only here for the easy starting spot, which automatically means they are unlikely to improve and have the mental fortitude to fight through adversity. The fact Dylan chose to be a backup means he might be making the proper decisions to become better. It all depends on if Qbs actually develop in college or if he will just be a perpetual backup to more athletic qbs who have a much larger margin for error. I could see him sit out this year, fight for a position next year. Split some time and learn a lot, and then go to an SMU type of place have a lot of success but not be in the national spotlight.

Further from that, Rhule is a total cancer for anyone wanting to play great at QB. This extends even to his coaches.

Spring games don’t mean shite. Never ceases to amaze me how some folks still read into a player’s performance in a spring game meanings that just aren’t there.
We have had 2 full seasons to see what Raiola is really like in real games against real teams. And it is a sad picture.
not true at all. @oldjar07 spotted John Bullock in mop-up duty as a 3rd string DB at a spring game, and immediately knew he was going to make the NFL. An extreme eye for talent that old fart.

People complain about Nebraska media fluff stories. That Oregon story raving about Raiola’s 50 somethin % performance is comical. IF he does that in practice, he’ll never play for them. My expectation is that he transfers again next year.
Yes, the hype-train for this kid has been pretty impressive; turned a fairly average college qb into a multi-millionaire without ever having to accomplish anything.

Going to be fascinating how Lanning manages the snaps between Moore and Riaola cuz IMO no way DR redshirts. Besides mop up duty in the first three games when else is DR going to have meaningful playing time? On the road vs USC, don’t see it. Is the 4 game participation rule still in effect to save a redshirt year? Moore announcing his return to Oregon 2 days after Riaola committing to Oregon had to catch Lanning off guard.
There isn't managing anything. You think Lanning gives 2 ***** about Riaola's feelings being hurt? He's not a NU anymore, so what papa, or anyone else thinks, doesn't matter. I also don't think Riaola gives a damn if he sits, the check still gets cashed.

Raiola's arm talent is real and he has an advanced level of reading defenses. The rest of his game needs work.

Our chances at a playoff run was last year. Unless we get 2003 level of Bo Pelini improvement on this defense, and this new OL coach literally becomes the reincarnation of Milt Tenopir.
Of course.

My point is, if you are going to hope for something, why hope for something negative against your team vs hope for something positive for your team?

lol sure it was @oldjar07 ? I remember the post you are talking about, it's right here:

First of all, Martinez looked solid today. Seemed quicker, didn't look fat, delivered some nice balls, INT was end-of-half scenario in the wind so not a big deal. He had some drops from Manning on good balls. Both should have been TDs.

BUT

Haarberg is coming on like Luke McCaffrey with a bionic arm attached to his shoulder and an East German from Western Russia growth regimen. 6'5" 245 pounds of jacked muscle. Size 20 feet. Size 20 balls. He is going to be hot on Martinez's tail for the rest of Adrian's tenure here.

Other thoughts:

- Thought the "fumble" by Martinez was actually a forward pass. Didn't get a good second look. Maybe they wanted to simulate Big 10 reffing today.

- Manning has all the tools, but we got a glimpse of what his potential issue is: performance anxiety. Seems to prefer catching the ball with his body instead of his hands. Had no problem getting separation. They should be working with him nonstop until fall. Legalized marijuana in the state of Nebraska might just be the fix for this young man and if the current government in the state can't get it done they need to go.

- The young white defender from Creighton Prep Bullock or Burdock could be someone to watch. Was out there making plays.

- Marvin Scott appeared to be up to about 195-198 pounds. That's a good weight for him. We have enough bigger backs we need some speed and quickness to complement them.

- Hard to gauge the backs with a thud period. Morrison seemed to show some flashes but against lower units. Yant as well. He might be the Imani Cross option for us. You can throw Thompkins in there as well they all seem to be decent backs. Hard to separate them. Ervin Jr. showed maybe the most juice on outside plays but had some issues in the receiving game.

- You could give Toby Wright some pads and he'll go out there and punish some people today.

- Can't remember which WR it was, maybe Nixon or Nance, but they made a nice catch on the sideline and put on a Dante Hall-esque move to shake two defenders out of their shoes.

- Betts was locked up by a white CB today.

Lanning has all the leverage since Oregon is currently one of the top programs.

Like it or not, Nebraska is at a ‘beggars can’t be choosers’ status right now.

Advanced level of reading defenses? Holy hell that is funny. Plenty of those sacks had to do with his inability to read a defense. He had his thumb up his ***. He has a good arm and is accurate under 10 yards.

Not sure how you can have an advanced level of reading defenses when you are a slow blinker . Thats Dylan’s biggest issue and not sure you can fix that.

Have you seen his disparity between zone and man? He is one of the worst qbs in the game against man defense. Anybody can make throws into zone, but against two deep safeties and man coverage you have to have a strong arm and good accuracy. Also, you need decent wrs, something he hasn't really had. Just remember that his head coach called him advanced, but the same head coach said his uncle was a tremendous oline coach before firing him. I would say he has good arm strength which is negated by terrible mechanics in an attempt to be fat mahomes. Somebody told him multiple arm angles will get him into the nfl while he can't make basic throws to wrs crossing 7 yards in front of him.

I was super excited for the ONE fourth quarter game winning drive he executed successfully....against Maryland.

Nevermind the failures.

To be fair, he played with a hand injury this past fall. His arm looked better as a freshman imo.

The inaccuracy against man, in short windows, and in the middle of the field showed up against Illinois in his first year and never really went away. His arm slot is pretty bad when throwing in the middle of the field, works better on sideline throws and deep balls with touch. I just hope he gets some real coaching, somebody willing to tell him he isn't a finished product. He couldn't have had a worse situation than to come to Nebraska, play for Rhule and Satt, and have his unc as the oline coach. I am embarrassed to be a fan of this program because time and time again, when a talented player chooses us, they get the shaft. And I can tell you that the talent pool is only going to get much worse. Very few top talents in this region are looking at Nebraska as college options. That will be the DR effect. He was the #1 rated qb in the nation, played his best football in his first few games and then fell off, and left us to sit on the bench at a much better school. Nobody with talent is going to want to experience the same thing.

Embarrassed to be a fan? Then. Never post again go find some other team. But you won’t because you are a POS of a person who bitches about everything.
