I feel badly for Dylan. But I’m excited about the opportunity for Lateef. I’m very much a Dylan fan, and I feel terrible for him and the team.

That said, I am a mobile QB fan-a-holic. I miss the mobile QB. And, if Lateef has a good last 3 games, let the QB controversy begin.

There won't be any QB controversy. Dylan owns Matt.

I hope like hell we have that luxury. I don’t see it from what we saw last night.
He didn’t get reps all week like he we have. He got thrown to the lions against a top 25 team .this isn’t HS you can’t just start running plays and drawing up plays on the sideline that you never practiced all week. He was still runninga game plan designed for Dylan. They are different types of QB . We will see different wrinkles in the game plan the rest of the year to better suit TJs strengths.

He hadn’t played in over a month, guessing kinda rusty, and nervous. 1st team reps in practice can’t be anywhere close to what he walked in on last night. How about wait until we see him after a week of full reps at #1.

The season is over with that 3rd loss which sucks BUT it also means that the coaches can coach without any cares now.

So we might see some cool stuff.
We were never a playoff team. Anyone could see that in the first half of the cincy game…this season was about proof of concept. Get better, improve the record and use that to open doors to even better caliber players. Doesn’t look like we are going to accomplish that. Disappointing

Holgo gonna have earn his keep. Not sure designing a bunch of running QB plays is a good idea. Here's an unpopular opinion......run Grand-dad out there as QB. He has a high football IQ and has excelled at the FBS level. If he can't get it done, then insert TJ.

good point. Quick question.. before yesterday, did TJ play at all this year? I'm curious if he plays out, if he keeps his redshirt

Rhule was asked weeks ago about redshirting Lateef and seemed to indicate that he wouldn’t be redshirting. No doubt he has to be careful about how he frames it so he doesn’t turn off QB recruits.

Not sure why people think TJ is a "running" QB. He is not...If people are expecting that they are gonna be highly disappointed. Because a guy isn't a statue and capable of making a play or two with his legs doesn't make him a "running" QB. I don't see him as a TRUE dual threat at this level. He's not beating anyone with his legs.

In case anyone needs a reminder on #12. He’s played a lot of snaps post high school, TJ not so much. I’d assume he also has a much better sense for ball security than TJ.

i think this makes sense from an intellectual standpoint, but every time I have seen JG play, I never got the feeling he was any kind of "it" guy. TJ has a spark to his play that could be something, or not.. we don't know. Better to find out now. The season is what it is already, so might as well have his chance.. his opportunity to flow

If you do that, it goes right past the so-called #2 QB and tells him, "Well we seen what you can do and we have no confidence in you."

Great way to send Lateef on his way.

That would be a risk I'd be willing to take if I had a chance to see Gran taking live rounds at the FCS level because (1) he's been there and done that at a high level at the FBS level and (2) while maybe not as athletically gifted at TJ Grad is a lot less likely to have the yips. HOWEVER, your point is valid and TJ would probably not take it well.

In 1 3/4 years, there's never been one second given by the head man to replace DR during a game, regardless of how much Dylan was stinking up the place.

Now, we're gonna go with another freshman and live that same philosophy with him? I doubt it.
Let's see if they give Lateef the same grace as his top peer recruiter.

Like Forest Gump said, My momma always said "life was like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're going to get." We're going to find out what we're going to get this Saturday like it or not, let's hope we like it. I'm sure Dylan will be helping Lateef as much as he can during the week and Holgorsen will have his toughest coaching job thus far.

Stinking up the place is kinda silly. Two years ago DR was playing HS football, last year he was a true freshman playing in the best CFB conference with a cheesecloth line and he STILL managed to nearly break records at NU.

just the threat of a qb leaving the collapseing pocket and gaining yards, opens up a new dimension to boldly go.
just look at the calamity a running qb does to the blackshirts.
they should let raiola heel 100%, then get him sprinting and doing military obstacle courses so he's ready next year

Let’em roll TJ out there for UCLA with a 1/2 page of plays he’s confident with and roll the dice. Then tell both TJ and Granstad you have the bye week to show us what you got, winner is the starter at Penn State.

It's so dumb Urban Meyer that year where he won the natty with his 3rd string QB. He said he gave snaps to his backup every week in practice.

Isn't it just better to give your starter almost all the snaps all season and then try to fit in the backup in a tight game so he can suddenly just fly by the seat of his pants?

FBS level? He didn’t even compete at the FSC level. He played at North western Iowa . Thats NAIA .GPAC that’s the same conference as Midland in Fremont.

Oddly, I think TJ's game is more conducive to Holgerson as a play caller. He isn't a running QB per se but is more mobile than DR and looks confident rolling out. There is some improv to his game.

While this is true...you are talking about like 10 snaps.

Plus, those OSU teams were loaded with NFL players.

That is not to take anything away from what you said, it is just not easy to do more than like 80/20 starting QB to backup QB and even that is pushing it.

The offense will look a lot different this week, Dana has a QB that can run/pass and that will change things up a lot.

We really got some great Nebraska fans on this board and I bet the ones that are BMW (b_tch, moan, whining) the most have never played organized football beyond JR high school.

Are you serious? Dude has some wheels. Not 4.3 wheels but he would beat Dylan by 10 yards in a 40 yard dash….well maybe 5-6 but still way more mobile. The concern would be him taking hits cuz he’s pretty skinny.

So now we’re lobbying for the backup to the backup? 🤔
