Nah, focus on the positives, at least he’s driven to be successful and tends to relate to today’s players

He’s only saying one thing that maybe most every other analytically-driven doesn’t say…when he refers to “mastery shots”. I agree with him…if a certain player is really good at making a jump hook, pull-up 12 footer, etc, then that player should be allowed to take that shot. I think this is where he differs from, say, Oats. I’ve said this multiple times on this board…if Noah is EVER going to really help this program, he must be encouraged to take 10-15 foot jumpers…he simply is NOT going to be effective driving all the way in and trying to score. It’ll never happen. But I can see him making 50-60% on open pull-ups.

Can Dusty May recruit for UK while Pope takes his family on a one way vacation to anywhere?

Asking for a fan base full of friends.

One more year of Pope dragging us to the bottom of the ocean, and we can hopefully find a Dusty May out there. Unfortunately, we are at an age where coaches are getting more comfortable at lesser programs. We saw it with UNC. Kentucky is going to have to do its homework.

Hardest thing for me as a HS coach. We had a player a few years back that was NAILS from mid range. He would drive it to the nail, stick his foot in the ground, elevate and knock down approximately 67-70% of those shots. His junior year I spent half the season grumbling about his shot selection. One of our assistants finally showed me the numbers. I wasn't blown away surprised by the percentage, as much as I was how close it was to our paint touch percentage. I quit grumbling. We put in a lot more quick hitter stuff to get him freed up around the elbows. The more we ran it, the more teams closed hard or chased him (he moved without the ball as well as anyone I've ever coached), which allowed him to get more stuff at the rim. We just had to be super tough on the other players. He was the only one that had that freedom.

They have a year to start getting everything lined up.

Interesting story. If you don’t mind me asking, do you coach here in Ky? Head coach or assistant?
One more question, concerning Moreno…what’s your feeling on how he was used this year?

Head coach in MO.

Moreno's usage wasn't awful, but I'm not exactly sold on Moreno as a player either. He's "fine", but that's about the gist of it. I did like how Pope tried to incorporate more high-low stuff out of the Zoom action. The biggest issue with Moreno is he's soft, and his body is evidence one of that. At times, his hands were weak too. Moreno's best moments came in PnR actions (so think "single side" Zoom looks) with the play side cleared and his man forced to hedge or help, typically with Aberdeen as Oweh just wasn't a capable passer. I'll be honest, I don't really like how Pope is so set on the post initiating the offense. I love big/little DHO actions, but Pope's version of Zoom is SO DEPENDANT on that big being a capable passer and shooter. That was my biggest issue with the 24-25 team. While Amari was a good passer, he was an awful (non) shooter. That's why, when JQ was playing (specifically the STJ's game), I got a little excited. They incorporated some high-low stuff with the bigs that really worked better with this group, IMHO. I wish they would've continued that even after JQ went down. I feel like that was way more suited to Moreno's strengths as a player.

Granted, that whole paragraph and a couple of bucks will get you a cup of coffee at McDonalds too.

Thanks Coach, I think Moreno gets stronger and more confident and will get a good chance at the next level. It’s up to him, but I feel his brother will push him to get stronger and quicker.

Anytime. Can't imagine my opinion means much though. I've been way wrong on guys before.

Moreno has some things you just don't teach, the most obvious being 94" tall. He just has a LONG way to go to get his body ready for taking that next step. I worry Pope and Co can't get that done. I just don't see it. He has GREAT feet. Explosion is minimal, but would improve with conditioning I would think. He's a reasonably good finisher, but has essentially no face up game. Runs the floor well for his size. Motor comes and goes, which is a HUGE issue. I think there is a lot there, obviously. If, say, Dusty May were his coach, I'd probably be a little higher on his ceiling.

I don’t like the post initiating the offense either…unless you have Jokic. Lol

Yeah, there have been a few really good point forwards through the years. They all seem to have a helluva lot different skillsets than Amari or Malachi.

When Rupp Arena is half full then maybe the powers that be will take the game seriously… they are just taking the fans for granted and assuming they will fill the seats…. This may be the year that they just might be disappointed
