He still gets paid.
Honestly the report by Maryland did NOT find him primarily responsible. He gets paid.

I think the only reason he gets fired is he was t winning enough. It's sad but true.

Bobby Bowden had a player die in the infamous 'mat drills' at FSU.
George O'Leary had a player die at UCF.
Both of them won more than Durkun though.

It's kind of like Urb at Ohio State. If you win enough they'll overlook ABOUT anything that's not criminal, and even then some things are overlooked.

To be fair, and I'm obviously not a big Ohio State fan, OSU did shove Woody Hayes, a legend, out the door over the slugging of an opposing football player. Nowhere near as serious as a player dying, I think we can all agree.

The premise is correct: You have a better chance of staying at a school if you win. JoePa, for example. Without being so powerful, he would have been treated differently over the sexual assaults of males by one of his friends and former coaches.

Not throwing anyone under the bus but Matt Canada's time in BR came to an end because he was campaigning openly about replacing Ed Orgeron last year.

Durkin was fired because the team did not want him back.
There was a meeting yesterday and the team walked out and did not welcome him back.
Maryland had to fire Durkin.
The question is do they take the interim tag off of Matt Canada or do they bring in Mel Tucker the UGA DC.

So apparently, the President (Loh, who has been a disaster there) told the Board their decision to keep Durkin would cause an uproar. They told him to resign if he didn't agree, and he's leaving as of next June. Then, as he predicted, there was an uproar and he went ahead and fired Durkin on his own. What a screwed up chain of events.

Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan is the one that said fire him. I am not sure he will be getting paid.

Maryland is a trash dumpster on fire. Will be hard for them to find a coach to clean that up. Durkin will obviously have a hard time finding another college HC job.

I'd take him here as a defensive assistant. He was found not at fault, yet he is getting burned at the stake.

Blame the Head S&C Coach Rick Court and the athletic trainers that were listed for creating an environment and taking control of the workout sessions.

Durkin will happily take his money and leave.

Durkin has approximately $8.5 million left on his deal. Per his contract, if Maryland does not fire him for cause -- which the university is not doing, according to a spokesperson -- he is owed 65 percent of the total, which is $5.53 million.

Half of the $5.53 million will be paid out in the first 60 days after his termination (by Dec. 31), and the rest will be paid on a monthly basis.

I wouldn't take him here even if he agreed to come for free. Talk about lighting a match to burn down your recruiting. Hire him and it all goes up in flames.

Canada got fired at LSU because he was a bad fit. He was not campaigning to replace Orgeron. The whole LSU universe wanted Canada fired after the Troy loss. The offense did not perform at all under him. He did not develop a QB. He failed to take time off the clock and put the defense in a bad position time and again. I don’t know who you think he campaigned to.

Durkin was fired because the Maryland governor gave Loh the cover from the UMS board to do so. Now those board members are under existential threat. If the board would have followed Loh’s leadership they wouldn’t be in this mess.

Most likely the last check series that he will receive.

Canada had his play calling duties removed after the Miss State game.
This is what caused the issues with Troy.

It wasn't a bad fit because Ed Orgeron stills uses some of Canada's offense at LSU.
The motions and the shifts are what helped LSU beat UGA this year.

The issue in the Miss State game was not play calling but spacing of the OL.
LSU recruits big OL. None of their OL are anywhere close to 300. With this they move much better forward off the ball.
When you have an offense like Canada's modern double wing you need spacing because RBs or WRs get the ball at any angle.

Canada after having his balls removed by LSU actually turn it into a pissing contest over the offense and control of the team.

I think ultimately both coaches learn from it and you see a lot more downhill with Canada and you see LSU attempting to get speed in space

WVU doesn't need him.

He will coach somewhere. He has too many head coach friends.

I think he will probably be an analyst somewhere in the B1G or SEC like say Jim McElwain (Meat Chicken) & Butch Jones (Bama). When you're an coaching analyst you still get your buyout from your previous employer and a decent check from a new employer.

"Here's the deal," Orgeron said of his December 2016 hiring and January 2018 firing of Matt Canada as offensive coordinator. "It's tough when you make a mistake. But it's even tougher not to admit you made a mistake. Just wasn't a good fit. I had to do what I thought was best for the LSU program. So that's why I did it."
