@IL Wildcat Wheeler choked in the final minutes which is when I’ve been saying he shouldn’t be playing. He’s fine playing the first 30. Not everything can be boiled down to a box score, we all watched the game. Can’t blame Grady and TyTy not scoring when Cal mismanaged their injuries all year bc Wheeler had to sit.
And so you lay the entire loss on ONE player. Nevermind we never should have been in OT in the first place. Nevermind that the other 3 starters combined to shoot 5-26 for the game for 19%. It doesn't matter because it's all Wheeler's fault. That's completely irrational. I watched the game too, every agonizing second of it. Wheeler made some mistakes in that OT for sure but he wasn't alone. The TEAM lost that game. Everyone bears responsibility, not just one guy.
If you’re the primary ball handler wasting possessions in the final 4 minutes by turning it over, missing shots/FTs then yes it’s on you. The same way ppl remember the Harrison’s in 2015 for their multiple Shot clock violations in the closing minutes. The same way ppl bash hagans for the 2018 E8 loss to Auburn. I’m just pointing out wheeler shouldn’t be on the court late in close games. Agree or disagree?
I disagree. You play Wheeler at pg along with Wallace at 2g. Play wheeler as many minutes as you can at pg, then put Wallace hat point when Wheeler is out.
No, you can't create some hard, fast rule like that. It's all situational. There are times where I might agree with you and times when I wouldn't. And I definitely don't agree that it's all on Wheeler.
Just get ready man, Wheeler is going to be on the floor a lot this season, in close games and blowouts, various kinds of situations. If he's playing well, like he was yesterday, he'll be on the floor. If he's not, he'll be on the bench. The same applies to every other player on the team. To say otherwise is irrational.

I don't think he got the memo from this message board on Wheeler. This nut job thinks Wheeler's play was the key to the game. He should just hang up his whistle, guy can't even see how crappy that kid is. Doesn't he know Wheeler hasn't won an NCAA tournament game? If he knew that, they would have been able to guard him for sure.

All three of our guards were all injured when were beaten in the tourney. Wheeler ankle and neck. Grady faciaitis in the foot and TYTY ankle. Bad luck for UK.

No one is saying Wheeler sucks or is a bad player. We are just saying he's a bench player and a backup guard. He is not the guy you want out there in a half court scoring tournament game. Use him as a spark plug off the bench. He can't shoot so he does not need to be a starter.

I said he couldn’t find the ocean. That was it. And that was a fact. I also gave him praise when he did well. Biggggggggggg difference than just crapping on him.
What I recall in the game, as it moved along, nobody except Oscar and Mintz acted like they wanted the ball. The others were almost hiding from Wheeler, because they were not playing well and did not WANT the ball. You cannot make something happen at PG when your teammates are running from the ball and the bright lights. They felt the pressure.

He’s an extremely talented player, he just tries to play outside himself too often, and gets in his head when it’s time to shoot the ball. Catch and shoot threes he’s much better at, but off the dribble, not so much. If teams sag off him, we need to be able to run something to either give him a lane, get a big open, or give him the option to dish to a wing. That’s on cal as much as it is wheeler. by the way, I love Wheeler on this team. Most of us do. We just don’t all agree on how exactly to utilize him. There’s not more than one or two here who have even suggested he shouldn’t play at all.
Somehow “wheeler should be utilized a a spark plug off the bench” has been translated to “pull Wheeler’s scholarship!” I can’t understand it.
