Dukes Guards the Difference

Tyus Jones hit big shots in 2nd half to win the game. Okafor a non-factor for the most part.
Final 68-63 Duke. Not once did I see Kaminski isolated on one of Dukes guards. Duke iplayed good defense and kept Wisky away from the basket except for a few Kaminski scores. Kaminski played very well but didn't get much help from Dekker.

Duke ALLOWED their guards to carry the team.

And it wasn't just their guards. Duke was a complete package this year. They had the stud senior who can score, they had the best class of freshman, and they had BALANCE, a true wing, and a damn game plan.

We should seriously adjust and at minimum have a scholarship for a true scorer who is going to hang around. .He coming so close to being the greatest of an era.

Realize something. Grayson Allen isn't going pro. Matt Jones isn't going pro. Duke is going to have upperclassman who can score. We either adapt, or Duke could rattle off a few more of these. No more defending something thats obviously in need of a slight tweak. Its not even a huge change that needs to be made, man.

They had the same number Mc D AAs as we did so there is nothing Cal needs to adjust. And let's not forget we lost a starter this year. Duke doesn't win it if Winslow tears an ACL.

I was at game Decker was wore out before it started he couldn't make a shot in practice or in the game he just kept shaking his head we did Duke a big favor.

Id say you are in extreme denial. You over incredibly over simplifying the positions of both. So much so that its not worth the time to take it apart. It would take far too long.

They flopped, and Duke had good help defense all night.

The story of the tournament is Duke playing at an incredibly high level on defense. When you put that kind of defense together with a highly potent offense and a great game scheme/officiating, that duke team was never going to lose.

Dukes guards played very good defense, but in all fairness Koenig and Gasser are not slashers and rim runners. I watched most of the game and did not see Duke's guards commit obvious fouls that weren't called. And Duke didn't switch everything like KY did, so no Kaminski isolated underneath with a small Duke guard on him.
I hate Duke, but have to give them credit tonight.

OK, I just thought it was strange that Duke had 4 guards with 1 foul and we had 1 guard with 4 fouls. Bo Ryan seemed to think there was a lot of hand checking going on, but if you guys say it was just clean Duke defense then good for them. I guess our guards just need to learn how to play without fouling.

Duke played a zone for a few important stretches. Their guards fought through screens and they bodied up at every position.

But, no doubt Dekker just had an off night. I doubt he has thrown two airballs all season, he had at least 3 tonight and looked confused all night.

Difference is the emotion and will to win that Duke's guards have. The Harrisons are clutch, but they just dont bring it. I will be glad they are moving on as I think Ullis and Booker will bring the heart that we need to get over the hump. Same thing goes for A few other players. Our guys had all the confidence in the world, but a bit more fear with heart would have done it.

Are you serious?? Really?? We won 38 freaking games this year and youre honestly saying that we need to change things up? Some of you never cease to amaze me. We had a PERFECT season except for a few bad possessions and 5 horrible calls that cost us a game. We have one of our best defenders, best rebounder, and freak athlete go down with an injury and still go 38-1. I said the day that Alex went down that I feared a time when we would desparately need him and that day was Saturday. There is ZERO doubt that if we have Alex then we win that game (even with the **** calls and all). Nobody will ever convince me otherwise. The fact that we loss to Wisconsin does not mean that we need to change things. That's absurd! You act like we are coming off an NIT season. Its almost funny if I wasn't still pissed off about the game.
Second, I hate to tell you but Duke didn't win tonight because of that veteran true scorer that you say we are missing. Did Matt Jones even play? Cause I didnt even notice him, so why wouod he scare me in the future? They won because of their freshman guards in Allen and Jones. Grayson Allen carried the team with nothing but fierce effort! He played harder than he had played all year (according to some commentators) and willed them back into the game and then Jones took them the rest of the way. So, please don't give me the whole...we need to adjust to Duke because its obvious that DUKE ADJUSTED TO US!!!!! The fact you said the poster was simplifying things is hilarious.

Cals recruiting and ways of doing things have ruined a lot of UK fans. In 2008 everyone would be loving the fact that they return. My god we just won 38 straight. Andrew is 9-2 as our starter in the tourney. Not to mention kept us in the game we just got beat. The next thing is always gonna be better and to be honest I'm sick of it

Allen took over the game when Duke was down something like 7 or 9 points. His grit and determination spilled over to the other players and Duke rallied. It wasn't about the refs or Wisconsin players being tired or any of the other stuff being posted on this board. It was one nineteen year old kid coming through at gut check time. Just like those cheap novels we read growing up or some cheesy Disney movie plot. Only last night it was real. It was for all the marbles. It was about a scrappy kid who refused to lose... who single handedly turn defeat into a national title for his teammates, coach, and school. The second half was the Grayson Allen story. Never quit and give it everything you got. Sorry some on here missed it. It inspired me.
