Dual Storms

A couple of questions for the weather guys. Do you think it’s possible that these 2 storms can coexist as close to one another as they are predicting? It seems to me that one of them will steal moisture (fuel) from the other. If they do remain intact will the onshore winds of one be counteracted by the offshore winds of the other, thereby lessening storm surge in BSL?

I think they'll stay far enough separated to avoid this fujiyama crap or whatever. But yeah I generally agree with you about stealing moisture, but in this case there's so much low pressure, no telling what could happen.

There's tons of wind shear in the gulf. The Western storm may get ripped apart by that or at least not reach a high intensity.

I would think both storm systems would make them turn away from each other at some point, but I could be wrong.

"Maybe....this...could be.......The Perfect Storm!"***

ETA: Meant to mention the storm in the Atlantic is tracking more south and Puerto Rico has mountains in its Northern region that would likely break the storm up as well.

I would hope the first storm stirs up the water and lowers the water temp as well which could perhaps decrease the chance of RI Bomb.

^^^pretty sure this is the most likely scenario as well. Use up that juice that is the hot gulf water.

And now, as expected, the second one is headed direct to Gulfport with Jackson on the right side.

I think they’ll probably stay at least 6 feet apart to keep from breathing in each other’s moisture.

the real threat is all the rain we're going to get. Flash flooding with a little storm surge is really going to hurt and damage lots of property.

Looks like the best chance I'll have in a while to scratch a hurricane chase off my to do list. Now tropical storm Laura looks like the most likely target, but both storms keep having their forecast tracks moving towards each other. A couple of the models have Laura absolutely blowing up into a major storm, but most keep it a Cat 1 to 2. NWS Jackson said it best this morning when they stated there is an uncanny amount of uncertainty in the forecast for these storms right now.

I’m gonna fill everything gas tank and container that I have up this afternoon. Oil rigs in the Gulf could be shut down for a while.

LOUIS — The year 2020 has had its fair share of unique moments, and in the world of weather, it's no exception.

This year, for the first time ever, there could be separate hurricanes making landfall nearly at the same time along the Gulf of Mexico's states.

At this time, neither storm appears to be major, but you never know. Always good to be prepared.

Laura is the one to watch for sure. Doesn’t show it being major but as warm as the gulf is, rapid intensification before landfall is possible.

The Weather Channel said the Gulf temperature is right at 90 degrees. That's pretty warm.

The other storm will be Marco. This is August 21. Michael, the M storm that wiped out Panama City and Mexico Beach, was in October. At this rate, we'll use up a lot of the Greek alphabet with storm names this year.

There's a million other things hurricanes need than warm water to become major hurricanes and stay organized.

The paths are definitely getting closer to each other, but the further west Laura goes, the longer before landfall, meaning now they will likely not make landfall within hours of each other.

As far as the islands ripping Laura up, yes that is likely, but at no point during her travels over them is she expected to reach Hurricane strength anyway, and at her forward speed, downgrading to a depression only to re-energize, with likely intensification back to TS and then a minor Hurricane once reaching the Gulf is still likely at this point. And I read that the wind sheer over the Gulf is weak and tropical formation is favorable at least through 8/31.

I'm sure they will be peaceful hurricanes and there will be minimal damage. I wonder what name they will have on the back of their jerseys when they make landfall and what NOAA has listed as appropriate names?

Did you know that until 1978, all hurricanes had female names because, like women, hurricanes are unpredictable and impetuous? The practice became politically incorrect with the feminist movement.

Yeah my biggest financial loss this year is the fund with a decent share in exxon. I like the gas discount but as a country, our market likes higher oil prices. It's a fun conundrum.

Luckily Marco appears to have taken a knee....
