You ought to investigate Canada. It is a disaster. Housing prices are super high. Terrorist burning of Catholic churches was permitted with virtually no consequences to the criminals in 2021 based on false allegations of mistreatment of indians. There are very long wait times for specialist doctors.
So Canadians are about to storm our borders next?? 🤣🤣🤣

Putting all of that aside, he can put two sentences together which your DSA leader and also your past presidential candidate could not do.
WTF? He's the least eloquent speaker, outside of that Miss America pageant chick (or whatever beauty pageant that was), that I've ever witnessed. He makes up words, he slurs words, he just says stupid, nonsensical things ... all on the regular. Kamala, even when she was shorting out, sounded like a rocket surgeon compared to a typical Trump speaking sesh.

Those are countries run by actual Democratic Socialists.
Countries who do more for their people than we do.
When people support "Democratic Socialists" this is what they're supporting.
No one is going to some random page that states the fever dream of some random intern.
The candidates that are winning are those that are promising what all other 1st world countries have.

So a candidate runs for office somewhere and tells you that he's going to work to get you healthcare and cheaper groceries and fix the potholes and people get onboard. Meanwhile on here we get a bunch of "but did you see that page on the DSA website!!!!"

I have many disagreements with Trump and most importantly with the Iran War which I think is a disaster that he didn't need to get into. Personally, I think he is often a very disagreeable and disloyal person. In his first term, he quite often did the right thing for the wrong reasons. Putting all of that aside, he can put two sentences together which your DSA leader and also your past presidential candidate could not do. He is the lesser evil.
Nah don't play this game. I'm not in the dsa. The leader of a tiny fringe movement in the Democrat party has nothing to do with me. And that's not the point of this thread, as I mentioned.

However, you are a republican. You are Maga. Which means you are the evil right now, embodied by the leader of your party who actually IS in charge and is the head of your movement.

Would you vote for AOC? Someone like Mamdani? I mean, I wouldn’t vote for someone who vowed to destroy Capitalism. Reign it in? Yep. Stop the cheats? Yep.

Truman called it 70 years ago. Everything that benefits the majority gets tagged as scary socialism.
To be fair the DSA advocates for actual socialism...this isn’t just about Medicare for all. The agenda for the DSA as stated is to take over corporations. That is destroying capitalism…full stop. The minute you take over a private company you undermine the entire system, because how can investors know whether their investment is safe from such takeovers.

No I would not vote for Mamdami. AOC? Not sure, I have not studied her positions relative to the DSA.

Keep in mind one thing about me: my #1 issue is our debt. We must balance the budget and that means we must cut spending and raise taxes. I’m not sure any progressive candidate would support budget cuts to the extent necessary to dig us out of the selfish hole we find ourselves in.

So you’re saying the current countries who have “more socialist ideas implemented” than we do - Canada, Scandinavia, almost all of Europe - are disasters? Those countries who have universal healthcare have a populace who are miserable? Because that’s how you read. I think the people who are terrified with socialism are thinking post WW2 Eastern Europe. I don’t want that. Much of the DSA stuff I see is to keep Capitalism but reign in the billionaires and corporations who are hurting everyone smaller than they are, make sure Americans have healthcare that doesn’t break them, a place to live, quality education for everyone, and blow up Citizens United.
Scandinavian countries (Denmark, Norway, and Sweden) have high overall tax-to-GDP ratios (ranging from 40% to 45%) to fund large public welfare programs. They rely heavily on broad-based consumption taxes (VAT) and progressive income taxes that apply to middle-income earners, not just the wealthy. [1, 2]

Personal Income Tax
    • Denmark: Top statutory rate is about 55.9%, which applies to upper-middle-class incomes starting at roughly 1.3 times the average national income.
    • Sweden: Top marginal rate reaches around 52% to 57%, with local municipal taxes making up the baseline ~32% plus national brackets.
    • Norway: Top personal income tax rate is lower, sitting around 39.6%. [1, 2, 3]

Value-Added Tax (VAT)
    • Standard Rate: All three countries maintain a high standard VAT of 25% on most goods and services, helping stabilize government revenue. [1, 2, 3]

Corporate Tax Rates
    • Denmark: Statutory corporate income tax is a competitive 22%.
    • Norway: Standard corporate tax is 22%, though oil and gas extraction activities face a specialized high rate of 78%.
    • Sweden: Statutory corporate income tax is 20.6%. [1]

So you're saying that we should be equally worried about the Green Party/Libertarian Party/Constitution Party as we are about the one CURRENTLY destroying the system? Because of the very real threat that....the mayor who was elected is filling potholes?

Sorry, I'll worry now about the *** cancer and later about my too much sun exposure.

No, I'm worried about DSA being part of the Democratic Party.

Let's get real; to overturn Citizens United, which is at the core of our current dilemma of having the Epstein class run amuck, we need to change the composition of the court.

FDR floated expanding the court and it went nowhere
We need dem presidents and Senate to achieve this objective.
Any dem president( even the "moderate "Biden and Obama put justices on that would never support that horrible decision ) will follow thru on that.
It's not going to take a bunch of DSA supported pols to accomplish that.
After that goes away, everything else gets more realistic.
Hong had 4 million from a GOP pac supporting her campaign, even tho she apparently did not seek it, but clearly it takes money to run for office.
Without citizens United, at least all sides,GOP,dem, dsa would have to live on small donors, cutting down influence peddling.

Term limits would be nice also...that takes legislation.

Bottom line...gotta win in Nov and in 28 and 32...and by any means possible... DSA not gonna catch fire to win majorities in Congress and White House....so only one choice in majority of districts outside of NYC and college towns...Democratic party!

It's just a tiny fringe movement....

And trump is only one man. How much damage can one person (tiny fringe) do. They can do a lot. We have posters already defending the DSA views and are willing to accept any negative impact. Much like Riveting defending trump because he says the positives outweigh the negatives. To me, I don't want trump and I don't want anyone who is ok with the DSA. I take my vote and go elsewhere with it.

If you can't see the difference between the leader of a movement who has held politics in America captive with his extreme alt right ideology for 12 years verses a fringe movement in the opposing party (which has happened in different forms for decades), then you should take your vote elsewhere.

That's a you problem.

How exactly do you think trump started? He was a fringe person, not even a group. Look how quickly that changed. We'll get rid of trump when he dies, the DSA won't be so easy.

Don't worry, my vote will go elsewhere and I can get there will be a large group of people that will do the same. I always knew the Democrats would find a way to **** up a sure thing in the next election.

Trump was a billionaire, reality TV star, and had been commenting on politics for over a decade before 2014. He had connections, wealth, and a following already.

There is a difference and you know it- you're falling for the same propaganda I was talking about it in the OP. You're literally letting fringe voices, maga, and propaganda get to you with fear tactics

I will vote for change agents if they actually represent a change I want. I don’t want socialism so I’m not voting for a socialist. Give me change, but change that I want to see. Corporations out of politics. Term limits. Limits to executive power and the like. Hell I will even accept some more mainstream social ideas like Medicare for all. But I won’t accept outright socialism. I won’t accept half the DSA platform.

Your logic akin to how conservatives justified voting for Trump. They held their nose and voted for someone who was a change agent from the status quo, despite not liking things about him or his policies.
i think the only time in my life that i enthusiastically voted for someone was 2008 for obama. every other time has been some level of "holding my nose". so maybe i'm just more used to voting like that than some.

i don't see it as "accepting extremism" or whatever you think I'm doing. i see it as acknowledging reality - that if you think change needs to happen, we need to start electing people who actually represent change....that change is not going to come from the very people who have presided over the system that got us to where we are today.

I try hard not to judge people for how they vote and I hope don't judge you for voting how you want. I don't always succeed (see MAGA 2024). But I try hard to keep an open mind. I also agree the Schumers of the world are not going to lift a finger to change the system - he won't even lift a finger to stop the obviously bad Iran war.

What I am worried about is a couple things: (1) the dems putting forward unelectable candidates in general elections (I think we just dodged that in Wisconsin) and (2) the slippery slope of socialism taking root like the MAGA fascism has taken root. But that is more about the politicians/their political platforms and less the voters.

No idea, I don't know enough about these "hypothetical" candidates.

However, it would be a statistical anomaly for that to ever happen. Come back to me in 6 years and we can "hypothetically" talk

Francesca Hong in Wisconsin who advocates for the abolition of Thanksgiving, is a state representative and received 38% of the vote Wisconsin primary for the governor's office. Those saying that the DSA is a small fringe movement are either living a fantasy right now or liars.

Have you looked AT ALL at their funding? At their membership? At how many seats they hold across all government agencies across the states?

Again, you didn't read the original post. In every single definition it is a fringe movement with a few high profile wins in major cities.

You're the problem.

Apparently, you are illiterate in math. The disgusting nutcase received 38% of the vote in Wisconsin and lost the race by .004. What is particularly reprehensible about her is that her family is from Korea and if it was not for the deaths of American soldiers she and her family would probably be living in the North Korean police state.

Just because I am against the DSA does not make me for Trump or MAGA. Just like being for the DSA does not automatically make you a fan of Stalin.
