Just listened to BW & I'm not sure if what I heard was real.

I'd seen it mentioned here that OM wants to downplay or drop the Egg Bowl Rivalry in favor of LSU. But, I thought it was just the fans & fanboy media.

He mentioned it being something the AD, administration, & former players agreed upon. Is this true?

Sorry if Germans.

The school & their reps are just

playing the line of "it's MSU's fault that we're in the trouble that we are in."

They're never going to admit that the problems they are facing are due to their own actions.

These morons... What are they gonna do, sue us? It's like a women's sewing circle up there.

These are the same fools that drove the Egg Bowl Trophy around and posted their pics all over social media 2 years ago. But now that they're staring a significant losing streak in the teeth, they want to quit.

They couldn't be more of a cliché if they tried.

EDIT: I'll add; Suits us. Bye.

Trade an actual trophy for what looks like the mount to Big Mouth Billy Bass singing fish, you gotta make that trade.*****

If they were to somehow win this year, there would be no end to the "rivalry" talk coming from their boards. I'll add rivalries develop on their own, if we continue to beat or trade wins with LSU, MSU will be LSU's rival in MS for the next few years.

Just how do they go about dropping it?

The rivalry ain't no damn trophy, it's about attitude.

But hey, we'll hang on to the Egg until further notice.

Once their program hits rock bottom and they start getting ready to crawl out of their crater they're gonna need us and this rivalry more than ever whether they like it or not.

Ironically, no one decides who their rivals are or aren't through any kind of conscious act. We may consciously want to beat Bama or Auburn or LSU more on any given year, but deep down inside, we care most about the Egg Bowl. And this deep down feeling shows up on the outside and is obvious to anyone watching. There's a reason why you see the Egg Bowl on lists of best college football rivalries and the Magnolia Bowl never shows up. It's why the Iron Bowl is held in very high regard while the Alabama-LSU game, while still a rivalry and might have more title implications in a given year, is ranked lower.

Not A Fan's idea was to beat us in the Egg Bowl this year and leave the trophy in Starkville. They may accomplish the 2nd part of that plan.

I wouldn't give two ***** if we never played those clowns again. The only problem is that we are forced to play them every year. I don't enjoy playing them, I don't enjoy going to Oxford and having my family treated like ****. I also don't enjoy watching our fans treat them like **** when they come to Starkville. We're not going to gain anything by going on a 5 game winning streak against an SEC bottom feeder.

And honestly, their fans are ****** up and strange.

Typical presumptious smug attitude on their part...as if they're in control as to whether there's a rivalry. This is exactly another example of how they live in a world of self delusion.

This RIVALRY has become TOXIC. Don't you morons read the Clarion Ledger? MSU & Ole Miss need to lower the volume on the rivalry.

This is a good time to remind Ole Miss fans that the SEC thinks so highly of their program that they made Vanderbilt their permanent cross-division opponent. Vandy. That's who the SEC equates OM football with. Not Tennessee or Georgia or Florida. Or even South Carolina. It's Vandy.

It's always been toxic. What about those time's in the early 1900's when they were bashing in each others heads in the middle of the field with chair legs? Some of you think that we need a rivalry with those arrogant bastards, but we really don't. I'm not opposed to the egg bowl rivalry, it's just not fun when it's with a group of egotistical cellar dwellers in the SEC.

I don't even particularly enjoy being around their fans who I come in contact on a day-to-day basis.

1st football game MSU won was Ole Miss. And when the apocalypse comes, I hope it is just after MSU has beaten Ole Miss. We are rivals and always will be. Ole Miss just wants to downplay the rivalry now because they know they are going to suck for the next few years...there was no talk about dropping the rivalry when Ole Miss went to the Peach Bowl and the Sugar Bowl.

A rivalry isn't something that happens because someone says it's one ... it happens spontaneously for natural reasons. So they can't just say it's gone, and it's gone. Nor can they say they have one with LSU and it's there (however, they've had a rivalry to a degree with OM for some time, much like we do with Alabama. Our Alabama rivalry is one-side though, and OM's with LSU may be too).

If they really want to give up the rivalry then they can leave the SEC and never have to play us again.

They are a national embarrassment already to the SEC (that's saying something) and to the state of Mississippi (that's saying A LOT)

It was built by a Ole Miss goon in a HS wood shop after OM “broke” the other one. I’m sure OM is the only one who gives a damn about it.

If they don't want to play us anymore, they can leave the SEC.

It's what Texas A&M did to Texas, Missouri to Kansas, various Big East teams did to the teams that got stuck in the AAC, etc.

I doubt a P5 conference would take them, but the AAC probably would.

Yeah I wonder how long he has dreamed of actually doing that. He didn’t come up with that idea on the fly. That is some deep hatred wishing on NotAFan’s prt

The rivalry should be dropped. The death penalty will stop the game anyway for a few years, so it's a good time for them to depart the league.

Well, I'll take forfeits every year till they decide to ball up and play us again. Would be awesome to start at 1-0, 1-0 before the first game in September.

Kentucky is regarded as a better football program than Vandy I think. Of course it’s a tall midget contest, but still.

And we aren’t the ones delusional about our historical and current perception of the football program.

That is a 10th grade shop special. And not a particularly good one at that.

Heard a few Rebs offer the rationale for changing rivals due to them being a "national brand", like LSU and unlike us. Do they mean "Kroger brand"?

Well to be fair, the media...

has tried to create rivalries in order to gain viewership and it hasn't panned out too well...Arkansas v LSU comes to mind as a media generated "rivalry" game. When Arkansas first entered the SEC, they tried to make our game with Arkansas a rivalry game as well. Like many others have stated, you can't fabricated these type of games. They just are born if you will...I think living within proximity of another fan base plays a role, family members attending both schools and a competitive history as well. There are only a handful of true games that meet this criteria. In the south, FSU/UF, UGA/GT, BAMA/AU, State/OM, although UF/UGA and BAMA/LSU are close...But the talk of dropping the rivalry is just talk and no AD or boosters have that control because they cannot control the local population in all the backwoods and communities that rivalries mean so much....

What are the chances that UM went to extensive lengths to get as many people as possible to use the phrase "magnolia bowl" on game week?

LSU considers every SEC game their rival. That's why they have been successful for the most part. Their fans make every game a special occasion.

The fact is that as long as we both remain in the SEC, we WILL play each other every season. If Ole Miss fans want to be delusional and think when the match up rolls around each year, they will treat it as just another game then go ahead. We will treat it how it should be treated, as a game for state bragging rights and maybe an edge with in state recruits. We will always hate you and want to beat the snot out of you. We know this is only a ploy to antagonize us and lessen the blow of all the losses you are about to experience against our team.
