Mestemaker is putting up incredible numbers at North Texas. I have just seen the highlights, but I have not watched a full game. He is only a RS Freshman. He is probably going to fetch big money in the portal. I would love to see Northwestern take a run at him. Walerius has ties to UNT, it would be sweet if that connection could pay off. With our struggles at the QB since Thorson left, I would like to see as much competition in the QB room as possible. Anyone seen him play?

Im not against it, but the Ryan family we need to open their pockets to sign one of these seven figure QBs.

That’s really odd, because I was told on another thread that our big ten peers (I.e. non blue bloods) weren’t engaging significantly in NIL beyond the base level rev share. Someone should get on the phone to let Indy know that big ten teams aren’t doing that!

According to google,
Yes, a private individual can offer an athlete NIL money, but it is illegal for that offer to be a
recruiting inducement.
Oh Google said that, did they? Then it must be true.

I'm sure there's nothing on paper that ties a NIL deal to the school they're expected to attend. And some players have taken a NIL deal, then "sat themselves" due to "injury" to preserve a year of eligibility, then transfer to another school for another NIL deal. They don't have to give back their NIL money.

I’m just saying that it’s not legal to contact a player who is not in the portal, in order to persuade him to transfer. How well this is being enforced, I have no idea.

That would be illegal because no contact is allowed until the player is in the portal.
I genuinely laughed when I read this comment because I thought you were making a joke about it, then i read your other comments. Nobody, and I mean nobody at any level, pays even the slightest attention to this rule in any way that makes a functional difference.

Another coach apparently moving on.... UConn's Jim Mora heading to Colorado State. I knew he would probably get snapped up somewhere. Too bad. The fact that UConn isn't in a major conference is a travesty.

UConn football has been one of the worst programs in the country for decades (on top of being saddled with a basketball program that very much can’t move to another big conference) and Mora making it actually decent is why he’s getting a better job. Note thay Colorado State is an upgrade. UConn is not remotely a major conference program.

If conferences made any geographic sense anymore it’s too bad the Big East football conference no longer exists. For both football and basketball they could have a conference with Syracuse, Pitt, U Conn, Rutgers, BC, Temple maybe even Va Tech, and could have basketball members Gtown, Villanova etc.

I don’t disagree categorically, but I’m too busy being grateful NU ended up on the winning team in realignment - and hopeful we properly leverage this into a strong position - to be upset about how realignment went. We won.
