I hope the guy does well as he learns from each coaching job he’s got. Ash saw him as the next Boy Wonder, but he was too inexperienced to run an offense that was in bad shape to begin with after the Flood years. He’s still young and might have made enough contacts to get another shot somewhere in a few years.

Dude, blaming it on Flood? Seriously? Mehringer came in and decided to run a completely different offense than the one almost everyone on the team was recruited for. Reminiscent of KC and his Sunshine Band doing it in 2010 resulting in Tom Savage and Chas Dodd getting the snot kicked out of them in the backfield.

I mean, take a look at the difference between 2015 and 2016.

2015: 27.1 ppg (21.3 ppg Big 10)
2016: 15.7 ppg (9.6 ppg Big 10)

He takes over the offense, and we average less than 10 points per game in Big Ten play?

he got run out of Texas, in part, because he was bad mouthing Herman to players and Herman got wind of it. You don't make a lot of contacts that way.. At least not good ones.

Chris Laviano regrets getting the haircut.
But that was the offense Ash wanted to run, and he found his man. He may have tried others, but nobody else returned his calls.

Notice how I said he was inexperienced to compete at this level, so it wasn’t just about Flood’s players. But when you compound his inexperience with Ash’s ineptitude, and put that up against the other B1G coaches, then throw in the decline of coaching through the Flood years, he was in over his head. As for the revelation that @MrsScrew made about him badmouthing his employer in Texas, if true he’s digging his own coaching grave.

Well there are certainly worse jobs than fau oc. once you get in coaching you basically keep getting jobs even if they arent the best relative to college football.
Drew had pretty serious head injuries so I think there may be some emotional issues which seemed to be the case while he was here at rutgers and if he is bad mouthing his hc who gave him a really good shot after being so terrible here that is bad and suggest there may be a bigger problem.

To the issue with the offense. if you are going to transition to a new offense there are going to be major issues most likely. That said you can transition to a read option without making it the only thing you run and without doing so blatantly. For instance you can install some elements and use some of practice time for it as you recruit players suited to it. even though coach trash kept insisting that the qb that was best suited to run a rpo was the same as a pro style. Only throw and run well, so the same, ugh.

My memories of this guy will always be that infamous Michigan drubbing where he called the exact same option play every down for like 3 straight quarters without even achieving a single first down as 100 recruits sat bewildered on the sideline.

Even the Michigan defenders were shrugging their shoulders with that "Is this a joke?" look on their faces. Also the game Jabril Peppers was acting like a complete ***. It was at that moment we lost an entire NJ recruiting cycle.

this news was around, even here on this board, back in 2019. The backstory reply to the initial tweet spells it all out
