I wonder how many Carver Bud Lights she had?Bluder only had one Carver cone the whole time she coached here? SHAMEFUL!

Just by minutes its looking like the starting 5 + Hays, Houston, Deal, ERod once she tightens things up.Jam is going to have a hard time feeding all these ladies when the competion ramps up
Negatives - Need to clean up fouls Heiden Hays, Hays free throws, tighten the handle a bit more Deal. Defense gave up too many layups. Often in trail position. Woulda coulda, but they missed a lot of makeable shots, too many turnovers. We have too many mouths to feed.Outside of maybe Hays' FT shooting, tough to complain about anything.
Kind of reminds me of Markowski from Nebraska. She'll be a pain when she learns to use her size to either run over opponents or draw fouls.First time I've seen Layla Hays. She looks like she'll be really good in the future. Nice post moves and good vision/instincts.
Her heels add about 9"Jan seems taller than 5 10
All good points.Negatives - Need to clean up fouls Heiden Hays, Hays free throws, tighten the handle a bit more Deal. Defense gave up too many layups. Often in trail position. Woulda coulda, but they missed a lot of makeable shots, too many turnovers. We have too many mouths to feed.

Store low is ahead of Deal. Deal has an easy offensive game passing and 3 point shot. She has to learn to make her drive work at this level. All good points.
Getting down to 8/9 won't be easy.
What I've seen so far, Deal has a long ways to go to make that 8/9.
She isn't quick enough to drive, imo.Store low is ahead of Deal. Deal has an easy offensive game passing and 3 point shot. She has to learn to make her drive work at this level.
I watched her in shot around and it was pure. She is really struggling w the speed of the game.I am a bit concerned watching deals three point shot. There’s too much push vertically. I’d like to see more wrist on the propulsion to be more consistent.
Unfortunately in the near term with games against Baylor, UConn, and ISU on the horizon, JJ won't be going deeper than 8/9.Deal will be fine as long as all the chicken littles don’t go around proclaiming her a bust every game that she doesn’t reach double figures.
W/O the 3 pt shotKind of reminds me of Markowski from Nebraska. She'll be a pain when she learns to use her size to either run over opponents or draw fouls.
Some very good points, until you got to number 7 that is. Levin SHOULD be pushing for a role but I'm not seeing the poise and confidence needed to help at the 1. She's definitely got the energy but her lack of playing time may be telling. Hope I'm wrong because Deal is looking more and more like a 2 and so is Stremlow. When Chat has to leave the game with what appears to be leg cramping, the 1 gets a bit thin.Beyond what we knew already.
1. Hays has some moves and willing to get physical. She needs to work on free throws. Will be some up and downs but we have a hell of a C combo for next 3 years.
2. chit chat may be the best player on this team, just wow.
3. Stremlow with her best game.
4. Deal continues to make progress
5. . Teagan sighting. Yeah!
6. Houston looks like a quicker Stuelke. She could be a beast. Does all the little things.
7. Levin is pushing for a role. She has made big strides since last year.
Sorry..Had to laugh at this one. That wasn’t a huge mistake. They left her in so she can get more minutes knowing she was barely going to play the 4th.Fortunately have a huge lead, but JJ made a mistake leaving Heiden in the game with 3 fouls in middle of 3rd quarter.
We knew this would be an issue initially. She shot around 46% in high school, (Thats not a typo). Its funny because she has a decent jump shot. Just needs to put in the work.Outside of maybe Hays' FT shooting, tough to complain about anything.
Just saying in a critical game that would have been a mistake.Sorry..Had to laugh at this one. That wasn’t a huge mistake. They left her in so she can get more minutes knowing she was barely going to play the 4th.

I realize it wasn't going to matter vs Drake.
Agree with this and think Deal is making progress. Personally I think in the not to distant future the naysayers on her will change their mind. Also, there are going to be times when matching up with opponents Chit Chat and Deal will be on the floor at the same time.Just by minutes its looking like the starting 5 + Hays, Houston, Deal, ERod once she tightens things up.
Agreed. I think a lot of folks expected her to have a career trajectory similar to Caitlin Clark. It could turn out that her career trajectory is closer to Kate Martin's. And that's not too damn bad.Deal will be fine as long as all the chicken littles don’t go around proclaiming her a bust every game that she doesn’t reach double figures.
Post #103.So you admit she didn't make a mistake. Got it.
She isn't quick enough to drive, imo.
And she's not hitting the 3s from the corner.
Someone so highly hyped coming in is gonna be a "head case" if she's not in the rotation.
Regarding Levin - Personal observation bias here and extremely small sample size - I think she may have the 2nd best handles and quickness on the team. Levin was a bench player last year. If she is going to fill a "role" it would be spot minutes during the regular season potential at the PG position. For PG we have Chit Chat, Stremlow, . . . . . You have others that will bring the ball up but that is what we have. She has gotten in ahead of Johnson as well, so for now I would say she does have a chance to see a role on this team. Some very good points, until you got to number 7 that is. She is also a great option when the play breaks down towards the end of a shot clock. Not afraid to take it to the hole or dive to the lane for a pull up. I love the diversity and depth of this team. Now, if they can make some free throws, that could be damn dangerous.Rodriguez offers toughness we need
I think Houston and Rodriguez brings some real toughness to this team.Hannah and Heiden are a tough duo inside. Wright is quick, a great passer and good shooter. I still like Feuerbach's defense over Rodriguez's scoring. McCabe's shot is quicker than before and she has obviously work on her quickness and passing. Not a bad starting five.
Rodriguez and Hays should be first off the bench. Houston and Stremlow my next two. Deal should get minutes but it will take some time. Injuries have slowed Mallegni.
I truly think Jan has a solid 9 - 10. Houston has been a big surprise.
Just how do you know she is going to be a "head case"? Seems to me you are drawing to a conclusion without really knowing who she is a person. She isn't quick enough to drive, imo.

It could be difficult for a 5* high schoolers to adjust to not being in the rotation.Just how do you know she is going to be a "head case"? Seems to me you are drawing to a conclusion without really knowing who she is a person.
In general I don't disagree with you, but I think much of that is concluded from how the men act. There is far more entitlement given to them at an early age and when they are not the cock of the walk, then egos get busted. It could be difficult for a 5* high schoolers to adjust to not being in the rotation.
She'll get there.
I made a mistake drawing that conclusion, but yes, I don't know her.
Unless she gets hurt you can't use a redshirt after playing. This isn't college football.maybe redshirt her
I know it would never happen, but she does not look ready
Every Iowa fans wants to see Deal succeed. In general I don't disagree with you, but I think much of that is concluded from how the men act. There is far more entitlement given to them at an early age and when they are not the cock of the walk, then egos get busted.
Players need to experience being on the floor when they're in foul trouble. Much more careful rebounding/grabbing defensively but aggressive on offense.Just saying in a critical game that would have been a mistake.

Deal - that shot looks good. The dribble drive still does not. The passing looks really good. Defensively much improvement since the opener and exhibition. Deal is going to get significant minutes because as of right now she is the back up guard. yes things may not go as easy as she expected this year, but she still has the potential of being one of our most dynamic guards on the court. You need to keep developing it.
This. Deal is going to be in the rotation. She's progressing, and the only way to keep that going is for her to get minutes. It may be very similar to Ava last year, but I think it will be earlier because you won't see her go for games without playing at all.Regarding Levin - Personal observation bias here and extremely small sample size - I think she may have the 2nd best handles and quickness on the team.
