Amazing the amount of colleges in Texas. It’s a HUGE state! Hell, a coach could recruit strictly in state and field a top 20 team, especially in football.

I’ve said it a million times on here. Hiring a guy who only makes 1 run in the NCAA Tournament as their crown jewel over multiple years as a coach is usually a recipe for disaster. Shaka and Archie both fit that criteria.

Well, we debated it already, so I’ll just say if you look at the record, Shaka had more success than just the 2011 run at VCU.

But what I agree on is that it makes any hire at an elite program perilous - especially if a guy who succeeded at a lower level.

Yeah, you ahd I disagree what success is. I need a guy to make it out of the first weekend more than once to even consider him at a place like UK.

But, yes, there are so few sure things out there. I use Nebraska as the perfect example in football. Scott Frost seemed like a sure thing to me. Can’t miss guy going home to save his alma mater. That’s not working out so well.

Just searched it and what I thought was correct. Abilene is in Texas. That’s gotta be tough losing in the tournament to a small, in state school like that. Couldn’t imagine the **** storm of that happening here. Good Lordy.

It would be like us losing to Evansville........

And I can't stand them playing that Truck Stop Conference of theirs and act like just because they threw a couple of fringe top 25 teams on the schedule, it makes up for it

Which is why its amazing that so many of their big athletic stuff is dysfunctional. Zero excuse for Texas to be out of the top 25 on a regular basis in football and basketball or have few conference titles to their name.
