What impact do people see this having on the upcoming season regarding the teams potential performance??

Great news, provides much needed depth up front. I expect to see him get maybe 12-15 minutes a game and crash the glass. I've never seen him play but people have said his game on the offensive end might need some seasoning but another big body on the glass is more than welcomed.

Is he eligible right away or will it be a Kadeem Jack 2nd semester kind of thing?

So, by year of eligibility, we now have:

2017-18
Sr: Williams, Freeman, Sa
Jr: Sanders, Mensah, Doorson (RS)
So: Thiam, Omoruyi
Fr: Baker, Johnson, Bullock (RS), Doucoure
(Kiss sitting out RS year)

2018-19 (assuming commitments become LOIs)
Sr: Sanders, Mensah, Doorson (RS)
Jr: Thiam, Omoruyi
So: Baker, Johnson, Bullock (RS), Kiss (RS), Doucoure
Fr: Mathis, McClung, Harper

It's also possible that Sanders leaves early and/or a player transfers, which could potentially mean 1-2 more slots open for 2018.

does this allow us to recruit more for the 18' class? With Corey almost certainly leaving I believe we will still be vigorously looking to grab another prospect.

I also don't see why people care about the class ranking for 18'. The same load of players is still stepping foot on campus and it possibly gives us a chance to keep looking to beat that #11 ranking

Side note: I was definitely one of the non believers for this when it was a rumour. Interesting breakthrough

I don't think they ever stopped recruiting for 2018. Given the rate of transfers and early departures in basketball, it's probably likely that at least one more slot opens up for next year. Nothing could be "official", though, until this season ends next spring and any such departures are announced.

He has to get through the NCAA Clearinghouse, which no one here seems to want to discuss. But per Carino, it might be an issue.
Carino said in his Hoops Haven blog : "Assuming his eligibility paperwork passes muster with the NCAA,"
My take on Mamadou's reclassifying is: that was looked into and everything seemed in order. The only thing needed to qualify for 2017 is to hand the paperwork in and gain clearance.
But that's my take and can't claim that I really know Doucoure's a lock to qualify.

"which no one here seems to want to discuss"

The news came out like 2 hours ago.

You beep at people the split second a light turns green, too, don't you.

This is great to hear. I would think that RU was doing their diligence on Doucoure to see if he would qualify before he enrolled. Hopefully things will fall into place and he can be immediately eligible. If so we will have another rim protector and a very good rebounder to help us this coming season.

According to Richie on the RT, we are filled for 2018, unless of course someone transfers or leaves early (I.E. bullock/sanders)

FINALLY!

Yes, this is the development I was alluding to.

No JUCOs, no random grad transfers....just a starting level 4* player for 2017.

Welcome aboard MD!
Based on what you know, do you have any concerns about eligibility for this upcoming season? Seems odd that confirmation of his enrollment came from "an online search of the university directory" rather than other presumably human sources.

I assume that was all looked at prior to getting this done.

Still think the best part of this is that he's officially off the market .

Hopefully he's a player.
You'd like to assume that he'll be eligible but Diallo was enrolled too and didn't pass the clearinghouse and had to sit out his first year. The fact that the report came from an "online search of the university directory" means that RU wasn't necessarily volunteering that this is a done deal. Agree completely with your second point. Don't have to sweat out the months until signing day AND he'll be on campus acclimating to academic life and working out with the team for a year. But that's worst case scenario at this moment.

I saw him play in February when I think his team played Gill st. Bernard at Kean. His team was loaded with young guys but Mamadou did rebound and guard the rim. I think he only had about 12 points or so but he really only took a handful of shots. The guards took almost all the shots. If eligible I believe he will rebound and box out well and give us a toughness down low. I would not expect too much from him on offense immediately.

Seems to have good hands, protects the ball once he has it. Looks to be a good low post passer (reverses the ball and nice outlet passes). Needs to find a "mean streak". Coach Young has a lot to work with but as 1212 said, don't expect too much too soon. Will need to be coached up.

We don't have to question it, but I'm wondering exactly what separates him into the 4-star category over any other big man we got or may get.

His videos online aren't as numerous as they are for Mathis.

He is very athletic with good size, bit of a project, but high potential. That is why he is a 4*.

if so, here are 2 YouTube videos of one Mahamadou Doucoure':

And 1 in French:

If this is not RU's recruit, I apologize for wasting people's time ... I was pretty impressed with each video, by the way.

That is definitely not him, there is a clip from 2011, I dont think he was 6'9 at age 13 playing against the big boys

The one in French lists his birthday as 1985... which would make this Doucoure 32 right now. :)
