Douby or Powell

I'd say Douby, personally - at least offensively. He ended up on a couple of NBA teams in coaching flux, though, and ended up lighting it up in China instead.

I think Douby was a better pure shooter (although it's pretty close), but Powell is a more complete player, as I think he drives to the hoop better and is a better passer. I also think Powell is a better on the ball defender, but Douby's length made him great at getting into passing lanes. Both great college players and I think Powell will be an off-the-bench NBA guy like Douby was before he starred in China.
They are/were both great college players. But I haven’t seen Powell beat double and triple teams the way Douby used to do every night.

Douby, and I don’t think it’s really that close. If Myles gets picked as high as Q in the draft I’d be shocked. As others have said, the BE then was such a gauntlet w so many talented scorers, and #5 was the best. He is criminally under appreciated even by our fan base.
Normally I'd be worried about home cooking, but this is a fanbase that wants to fire the coach and talks about epic collapses every time we are down.
Not sure who was better - think Powell, but Powell is in consideration for NCAA player of the year. Not sure Douby was in the conversation for any such an accolade.
The amazing thing is that Powell is surrounded by more talent than Douby was, yet Douby still had more assists.

Douby was an AP honorable mention shooting guard his final season as a junior, behind guards JJ Reddick (1st team), Rudy Gay (2nd team), and Allan Ray (3rd team). All three played on teams that received a 1st or 2nd seed in the 2006 NCAA tournament, while Rutgers ended up in the NIT.
Douby also was a victim of terrible timing. The year he took over Morrison and Reddick also had monster years.
Douby was a deadly, better 3 pt shooter(42%, 33%, 116/289 40%- 33 gm) coming into college, and in his Jr year was starting developing a slash and drive game(51.5% 2 pt). He had that 9/17 on 3s @Syracuse for 41. He always shot beyond NBA range.
Powell has been a good slasher(over 50% on 2s for 4 yrs), has become a better 3 pt shooter(33%, 38%, 36%, 31%), he's relying on 3s too much this year, not a volume 3pt shooter like Douby, more streaky like John Starks. Only 2 games hitting 7(7/10 Fr., 7/15 Sr.) in 4 years.
Douby's senior year would have been all time great and much better overall player than Powell in his Sr year.

You can divide it up a few different ways. Career... probably Powell. Season... probably Douby (as has been stated, he led the BE in scoring with zero help and facing more defensive focus). Month... individual game... half... who knows
Love Powell's game and I do think Powell is the better pure shooter but what Douby did was otherworldly. A shame he didn't translate well to the pro game as a whole. More than held his own against many future pros here.

Powell's career numbers benefit from his fourth year, while Douby left after three. Douby's 4th year would have seen a coaching change to Fred Hill, though, so who knows. Had he had a 4th year under Gary Waters, with Farmer/Inman/Griffin as sophomores, he'd have had a monster season (and who knows if Lance Thomas would have pulled the trigger on Rutgers instead of Duke if Waters and Douby had been there).
As for pure shooter, that has to go to Douby. Douby could shoot from anywhere, against double and triple teams, with ridiculous accuracy - he was shooting from the conference logo and drilling threes, and was basically in range as soon as he crossed the time line. Powell may be a more complete scorer, but he's not a better pure shooter.
Another note on timing - if Quincy played today he’d be allowed a lot more freedom as he’d likely have free reign on shooting threes whenever he wants like Curry/Jimmer/Powell etc. it was just less acceptable to take deep off the bounce threes back then.
Douby only played 3 years not four and was a first round NBA draft pick. He played 3 years in the NBA and made many millions of dollars in China where he set many records. Powell is very good but he never averaged 25 ppg in a much tougher BIG East or led the conference in scoring. He has had several really off games this season. He is now only shooting 31% on threes for the season. He is surrounded by much better players than Douby was but he still at times tries to do too much. He might get drafted in the second round but I don't see it happening in the first round and he is a 4th year senior. I feel Douby was the better player. He even had a song named after him.
