Hodge was a Wisconsin week visitor. Weird, I was told we had no chance on anyone from that group.

Welcome aboard!

Aho seems like a reach. Not sure how he fits in a 3-4 defense. I'll have to trust the coaches on this one.

Great news! We need to upgrade that linebacker unit with good talent bigly. Not just starters, but quality depth.

Glad for the addition of two excellent recruits to upgrade the roster. Also more positivity during "Rivalry Week". This past week has been wonderfully upbeat. It feels like we just got 2 Black Friday bargains before Thanksgiving. Are we allowed to do that?

I read the subject line and opened it up in hopes that one of them would be Manning... either way that’s awesome hope they can both contribute

I hope they are right on what they see in Aho. We don't need more stretches at that position. Other than Randy Gregory, we haven't recruited a difference maker at DE in forever.

I wondered the same. And I don't know how it would apply to playing D-Line, but I just read that Aho has been involved in mixed martial arts, boxing and soccer.

Sounds like he has a varied background that should allow him to have better footwork and being able to hand fight to shed blockers. Hopefully the tough as nails mindset to go with it.

Right. Frost's staff seems to have a mantra about recruiting players who are versatile and don't just do the 7 on 7 camps or focus solely on football.

I know we want to recruit better than Wisconsin and Iowa, but they have been above average programs hovering around the 25 ranking in recruiting and still are dogging it out for the West for 5+ years because of the systems they have in place. Most fans know that Frost is trying to build a system. I hope this kid fits their system.

Was Aho playing 4-3 end at JUCO? Maybe they want to move him to OLB. Lord knows we need guys at that position.

Not sure about scheme, but sounds like he's switching to OLB from DL. His JUCO coach that he has a low 4.6 second 40. Not bad for being 250.

A guy whose last name rhymes with dong (remembering a thread a while back) and first name comes from Stephen said the following after Aho attended Oregon camp:
“The most dominant defensive player and one of the more physically impressive prospects at the camp was JUCO defensive lineman Junior Aho who owned offensive linemen with his initial first step, speed to power, breezing through reps efficiently. The rocked up 6-foot-3, 255-pound Aho certainly improved his chances of earning an offer”

I’m not gonna make any bold predictions about his potential, but a strong kid with mixed athletic background- I’ll take a flyer on him since we got room.

Interesting picks. Hodge is basically the same dimensions as Groce (and about the same star ranking), so probably replacing him. Aho seems like cover in the OLB/DE spot but most likely to end up at OLB.

This is what our current roster looks like so you can see they are filling in some sophmore holes. These guys will slot in ahead of the current redshirting guys and with Nelson and Reimer.

OLB
  • Jr: Domann and Jefferson
  • So: Tannor
  • RFr: Alston
  • Fr: Nelson (burned) and Graham
  • Recruits: Groce Jr (decommit) and Aho (will slot in as a So with Alston and Nelson)
ILB
  • Jr: Miller and Honas
  • So: ----
  • RFr: Johnson (walk-on)
  • Fr: Snodgrass, Hannah, Henrich, Remier (burned, walk-on)
  • Recruits: ----- Hodge (will slot in as a So with Reimer)
As you can see, we have basically screwed the pooch on LB recruiting in 2020. We had only a single guy and he de-committed. I'd expect some transfer portal activity here as well. Considering we have 2 walk-ons getting time on the 2-deep, we have some considerable holes to fill. This is possibly a warning that not all of our freshman class (Snodgrass, Hannah and Henrich) are going to be ready.

We only have a couple of LB targets with the biggest probably being Kaden Johnson.
