Pledgemaster is responsible for curating important props for character-building events … pink Barbie phone was used to educate pledges on house phone answering protocol / etiquette

Does anyone know what Beam is used for these days?

When I was there (late 80s/early 90s) it had been converted into offices and classrooms for the Smeal College. I worked part time in the computer labs in Beam and the main Smeal building for several years.

My two most vivid memories of moving into my freshman dorm room are:

- My 6-year-old sister stumbling while carrying a box of my cassette tapes and dumping about 30 of them on the dorm lawn, stressing me out (my dad was big on “everybody helps out, even the littlest kid in the family”)
- Making sure I picked up a poster of “the twins” posing on the Nittany Lion shrine to put up

- My 6-year-old sister stumbling while carrying a box of my cassette tapes and dumping about 30 of them on the dorm lawn, stressing me out

My office looks out onto the parking lot next to North Halls. Move-in always provides for some entertaining viewing.

Just watched the smartest move-in ever. Mom, dad, & daughter get out of the mini-van with two large rolling suitcases and a big duffel and jog into Robinson hall in the rain. About fifteen minutes later they come out with the two suitcases and an umbrella. Quick hug in the parking lot, mom & dad drive off and the daughter goes back into the dorm with the umbrella.

Thank God I convinced my and her other roomates parent did the same with their daughters to stay in the Standard (Echelon now) again this year for Junior year - she left stuff there and only has a small bag to bring up by herself. My only mistake maybe having her a parking space at the Sparks Lot behind Nittany Beverage - I am good until November when she turns 21 - way too convenient to be parked there.
