And if a few fans saying that upsets you it might be time for him to find a new profession or you a new husband
The general consensus on this message board is to be brutal, pessimistic and fickle. The truth of the matter is that many blame Tommy on previous years' baseball performances. This place is a safe haven to lay down blame without logic or reason. The negativity spouted daily here tells you more about the poster than the topic they are posting on. The posters that know the most often say very little.
So the truth is that if Raffo becomes head coach and instantly takes MSU to 20 College World Series championships, many on this board will be bitching about things like: uniforms, hair styles, bats, balls, fields, recruiting, fences, seats, tickets, radio, fans, concession stand cups, facilities, weather, parking, landscaping, grass, dirt, air, water, fire, and even life itself. And everything that can be remotely blamed on Tommy will be blamed on him. That is, excluding the 2 hours after he wins a championship.
After that time period the bitching and whining and moaning will continue. Like holding back the Mississippi River, you just can't dam something that big for long.

That being said I have two issues with him being head coach:
First and by far foremost, he has no head coaching experience. There is absolutely no reason for MSU baseball to have to take a chance on an assistant. If he wants consideration for the MSU job he needs to go out and get a head coaching gig and be successful at that.
Secondly, we haven't been a very good hitting team in years and years. Some blame this on Polk and his hitting strategy. If that is true then Raffo is a moron for allowing Polk to hurt his career by hindering his performance as hitting coach. The bottom line is MSU batters are far too passive, take far too many pitches, and typically don't come through with RISP. A man not excelling in his current duties does not warrant a promotion.

This is Mississippi State University, not Ron Polk University. We had a winning tradition in the sport of baseball long before the Legend himself decided to take this job. Unfortunately, he thinks his name is now bigger as a whole than the University, Mississippi State University.</p>
It's not that we don't like your husband, (I was actually a big fan of him when he played at MSU), it's that he's just not qualified to take over a SEC program without proving his worth at some other University first. You see, we as fans believe there are A LOT more qualified individuals that could come in here and right the ship within a couple of years and get this thing headed back in the right direction. Now, you may say, "Yeah, ba ba but Ron told Tommy not to take any other head coaching jobs because the keys were going to be handed over to him in a short matter of time and that he just needed to wait things out." Well, again, that brings me back to my first point. This is Mississippi State University, not Ron Polk University.
If your husband really and truely wanted to ultimately become the head coach at Ron Po..I mean Mississippi State University, he should have taken the Auburn job 2 years ago or whenever your son, KB21, said he was offered that job. I mean, head coach at AU has to be greater than assistant coach at RPU, right? If your husband was indeed a smart man, why would he turn down $250K + to be the head coach at Auburn to remain an assistant to a selfish excuse-making legend and make a quarter of what I'm sure AU was willing to pay?
So you see, Mrs. Raffo, it's not that we hate your husband or think he's a bad guy or anything like that, we just don't want him to be our next head coach in baseball. It's nothing personal, we can just do better. You should understand that.</p>

I agree about our hitters being too passive. I remember back in the day our hitters would regularly get into it with the catcher or umpires. It was not a game unless Ricky Joe Redd got into a fight. Yesterday when Georgia tied the game you just knew that we were going to do nothing but strike out and fly out the rest of the way. We just don't have that mentality. Maybe Will Clark would come back as a hitting coach. Or even Father Burke Masters, he could bless the team and then teach them not to hit into double plays.
There is plenty of over the top bashing done on this board for sure, but not in this situation. At no point in your post did you post any justification for Tommy Raffo even being considered for the head job at MSU. You want Tommy Raffo? Tell me how his resume compares with Steve Smith, John Cohen, or Dan McDonnell. If we don't ask every one of these guys before giving the job to Raffo, we've done a bad job.
...that it's not like Raffo has that Dan McDonnell "great recruiter" image. As an asst., he does not excel at his on the field duty as a hitting coach, and he does not excel at his off the field duty as a recruiter. There is no way he should be promoted, and there's nothing personal about that.
And like you said, Raffo is out getting blue chippers to commit and Polk is crossing them off the list, then Raffo should've left a long time ago. With all due respect, YOU are part of the reason why your husband isn't liked by the fans. OK, put down your handkerchief and Rocky Road ice cream. Yes, if YOU had been willing to move outside of the 2 hour radius between Starkville and your beloved Calhoun City and allowed Tommy to coach at Auburn then we may be very open to Coach Polk's suggestion.

And here's another novel idea- Tommy's team could actually play Ron Polk's team in STARKVILLE! How wacky would that be? And with Polk being 5,472 years old, chances are you wouldn't be at Samford for long, anyway.
Also, by remaining, your husband has unfortunately been caught in the crossfire by those of us who aren't satisfied with just hanging out in the Lounge, and just going to a Regional and watching our "nice" team try to work walks out of pitchers. I could go to the local Little League if I want to watch that. Yes, your husband is guilty by association. There are a lot of things that go into being a baseball coach- yes, I'm sure hanging out with "the guy that wrote the book" can be beneficial, but there's a lot of difference between "hanging out" and actually making all of the decisions, like knowing when to pull a pitcher (something that your definately DID NOT learn from the Legend), when to make in game decsions, running the baseball camps, recruiting- something your husband has already failed at miserably, we probably won't get anyone from Hillcrest Christian for another 10 years- and dealing with some of the most demanding fans in college baseball.

things to be given to you but guess what? Those of us in the real world have had to bust *** to get to where we are. We didn't have the luxury of having a collegiate icon forcing our hires on our employers. I know you've been brought up in this good ol buddy system crap and have never had to worry about the fact that your husband's area of the team has been awful the last several years but guess what? In the world outside of Starkville, MS, there are people that expect and demand success. It just so happens there are a few of us that want some return out of what we pump into athletics at Mississippi State. In short Mrs. Raffo, just STFU. Your husband's about to walk...I mean, fall into a 6 figure contract and 1 of the most prominent college baseball jobs in America, you really have it tough don't you?

We need someone new from the outside ( like a Manieri ) to come in with new ideas. I am ready for " Gorilla Ball " myself. As for John Cohen, he was an ******* when he played here ( used to go into the dugout tunnel and cuss and kick and scream everytime he struck out ) and it use to piss Coach Polk off to no end. He is still a total hothead and not the type guy we want. Raffo's problem is his wife is from nearby Calhoun City and she has never wanted to get too far away from home. I understand her wishes with family & all but a coach like Raffo starts out at MSU a a GAC and just sticks around here for 15 years without trying to hone his skills by moving around to different schools/positions and learning from other coaches. This , in my mind is the reason he SHOULD not even be listed as a candidate! We need a complete " polished " coach.
