Hearing some rumors from some pretty good sources saying that Billy D is going to be heading out of Gainesville but not to another college job but to the nba. I could def see him leaving with what he has coming in plus the fact that him and the Florida program are not seeing eye to eye lately. I could def see Smart headed to the Gators if that were to happen.

As frustrated as he was at the end of this season I could see him being ready to move on.

I've always thought this made more sense than him going to another college team like IU or someone else. Donovan seems to have the kind of demeanor that would work well with NBA players. We probably won't know if that's happening for a couple of weeks though. The NBA coach firing season won't happen for a while.

He won two championships at Florida and still can't get people in the stands. A move to the NBA would make perfect sense for him.

It is on pretty good info that there are some talks going on now but I agree prob nothing official for a few weeks. We all know Billy D wants back into the nba and his "ban" from the nba is over so why not you know. My source is saying that Orlando is willing to take a chance on him. Plus he knows the area and no reason to move his family.

Just announced, he's gone. Wonder who Florida will go after?

I think he's just tired of getting Cal's leftovers and is tired of taking the 3-4 year cycle of his teams being a contender.

So if he does go, will we accept him at UK if his NBA flameout coincides with Cals eventual departure? Whenever that may be.

I would because he has proven he can win.

Rumors, and Donovan don't go together very well as time has proven. There is always a chance though but I'd expect him to still be the Florida coach when next season starts. He didn't pass up other jobs just because he liked the weather down there.

Donovan is a baby. First he turns down Ky. because he could do his thing in Fla. with no pressure on him. OK I get that but then the scool returns 1200 tickets from New Orleans regional the year of their second title run because no one cared. Basically he got what he asked for. Now lately he's been put off because Fla has slipped in football and is pouring in millions trying to get that program back on track. Meaning the 30 million dollar training facility Billy was promised has been put on back burner along with the 120 million dollar renovation of the O-connell Center. Billy thought he could build basketball in Fla. but there is just too much competition with all the professional teams and the Gators. Billy is getting just what he asked for. Tune into most any game the Gators are playing except Ky and there is barely enough people there to fill the lower stands. That's about 3400 people and the University is paying Donovan 4.2 mil for that.

I was critical of him for the Orlando fiasco but on reflection it took a lot of guts to back out of that situation when he realized that it was a mistake . He knew he would be crushed for that , most people would go on with the error to avoid that kind of humiliation and criticism . I respect him for doing what he felt in his heart .

Poppycock! It has nothing to do with IU. As has been reported many, many times, Crean's buyout is to be over 4-5 yrs. IU could make that happen anytime.

This started the other day with a discussion on a syndicated radio show(I wish I could remember which) where the topic was if Rick Barnes was departing Texas then who would be his replacement. Donovan's name was brought up and there was about a 10min discussion on what he has left to prove at Fla and if Texas tossed him the right money he'd be coaching the Longhorns. It went on further talking about his deal with the Magic and eventually they decided that he would go to the NBA rather than Texas. It was an odd conversation and any listener who tuned in late would have thought Donovan was leaving Florida. They even jokingly said we should change topics before people think we are saying Donovan is heading to the NBA.

Then queue the idiots on a call in show that followed immediately after where more than 2 listeners asked or mentioned that they had heard rumors that Donovan was leaving Florida for the NBA and then the next day I heard the the same questions on 104.5. Somehow people can hear one sentence on the radio and their brain morphs it into whatever the want to hear.
