Nothing new really as the rosters are just now starting to shape up like he said he wanted to see first. But if Nike wasn’t involved he would already be at Kansas. I will say I have heard Pope is being pressured to just use the Stokes money elsewhere(maybe a guy that helped knock us out of tourney) but don’t expect that to happen.Have you heard anything about Tyran Stokes? Thanks in advance![]()
First off, we can’t believe any numbers from the media concerning NIL $$$ but, if UK was at $3 million (about $1 million- $1.5 million too much for Freeman), why would St. Johns raise to $4 million?Source tells me that UK was only wanting to match what other schools(St John’s) were offering. That reportedly changed today around noon. Just waiting for announcement.

A decision looms for Syracuse transfer Donnie Freeman, as two schools battle it out. Sources tell me and @JackPilgrim that St. John’s and Kentucky are both battling for the 6-foot-9 forward, with Tennessee on the outside looking in.
As of Monday afternoon, sources tell KSR+ that St. John’s has a slightly higher NIL offer than Kentucky, with UK being in a position to make a last push and move up. Per sources, his NIL price tag is expected to be in the range of $3 to 3.2 million.
As On3’s Pete Nakos reported on Monday, St. John’s has the momentum in this recruitment. Rick Pitino and the Johnnies have come on late in the recruitment, but sources tell KSR+ that the door is still open for Kentucky to make a move late.
Sources first told KSR+ that St. John’s and Tennessee both jumped into the race heading into the weekend after UConn and Alabama pulled out. At the time, Kentucky had some financial hurdles to clear with Freeman as the two sides played chicken at the closing table, opening the door for the Red Storm and Volunteers to make their moves with a chance of talks breaking down for good with the Wildcats.
Through it all, though, UK quickly regained confidence on Sunday and felt a public commitment was imminent after seemingly getting negotiations across the finish line. That overlapped with the staff’s decision to pass on Colorado transfer Sebastian Rancik, who announced his pledge to Florida State earlier in the day. Meanwhile, Freeman’s camp continued to engage with the Johnnies and Vols with the former ramping up confidence in their standing with the talented forward by Monday morning.
The ball is in Pope’s court to continue with the bidding war or pivot at the four spot where the list of potential options is limited, at best — at least in terms of clear talent upgrades. His former coach and mentor’s school is currently the team to beat.

It would not be a season of modern Kentucky basketball if we didn't pay a potential star to sit the bench (on IR for real or on IR for fake).$3M in a guy that’s an injury risk is nuts. Averages 12 missed games per year. Oh well- pope has to take a chance now I guess.
