A thread speculating a 1-6 team would take its foot off the gas before the opening kickoff. Amazing.
Some of you take what is on this board so literal it is comical. It was a random thought, a could this happen, should this happen, would this happen? Some take it like I am saying it is the word of God. Nope not at all, sorry to get some worked up into a tizzy. Glad some could see it for what it was intended.

The one time I can recall this is 1995 Northern Illinois at Florida when Spurrier sat Danny Wuerffel. From Wikipedia:

"At homecoming the following week, backup quarterback Eric Kresser played in place of Wuerffel for the Northern Illinois game, a 58–20 defeat of the Huskies. Kresser threw for a school record 458 yards, breaking the record Terry Dean set against Southwestern Louisiana in 1993. Kresser passed for six touchdowns to six different players, including a 96-yard pass to Jacquez Green on a crossing route.
Despite the performance, Spurrier felt Kresser threw better in pre-game warmups. The Gators improved to 8-0 for the first time since 1928."

And now you know :D

Edit: I think Iowa State started their 2nd- or 3rd-string QB against us on Senior Day in 1992 and beat us 19-10.
Goes to show that Wuerffel needed the time! That little bit of extra experience could have been the difference against us in the Fiesta Bowl.

This thread really epitomizes the free board.

1. Nebraska is 1-6, and shouldn't be sitting starters regardless of opponent.

2. However, Bethune-Cookman will be the least talented football team to EVER visit Lincoln. They would be a double digit underdog to NW Missouri State. UNK could hang with them for 4 quarter game. I'm greatly relieved Nebraska won last week because I would be incredibly embarrassed to get win #1 vs BC.

3. Fans who think Nebraska could play poorly and lose this game are not thinking logically. BC is NOT on par with teams like Troy or Northern Illinois or Southern Miss. They are going to be immensely outclassed.

A few more things:

Big Ten teams don't get the benefit of playing non con games with 8 games of film to prepare for their opponent. I can guarantee Nebraska knows exactly where to attack this team. On the flipside, the BC defensive coordinator is probably scrambling to create a game plan after watching the Minnesota game.

When non con FCS programs get to play Big Ten teams in early September, they usually have their full rosters at their disposal. By week 9, these programs are dealing with injuries like all other levels. This is problematic because of the scholarship disparity. BC will be trotting into town with really only about 50 scholarship players they can count on..

Temps will be in the 40s during pre game warm ups. BC hasn't played a game in under 80 degrees yet this season. I guarantee some of those players are going to be struggling on Saturday morning. I remember practicing early mornings in August with some teammates from Florida. Temps would be in the low 70s, and those dudes were bitching about the cold.

Good post. Do you think BC is worse than the Idaho State team that came here in 2012? That was probably the worst team that I've ever seen us play. They were 1-10 that year... only beating "black hills state." We beat them 73-7. They gave up 70 points three other times (portland state, montana, cal poly). Ameer had a punt return for a touchdown that literally looked like a video game played on the easiest setting with all your players juiced to 99.

It may be that easy on offense, but BCU has enough on offense to put up a TD in the first half, and then maybe a couple more in the second, if we're substituting liberally. 59-21, something like that.

Yes, I think they will be worse than that Idaho State team. The two squads are likely even in talent, but Idaho State had the privilege of playing Nebraska early. BCU has to play Nebraska with 8 games of film on full display.

The Huskers can actually execute a game plan. On the flipside, BCU will struggle to stop anything Nebraska does offensively.

And now for my transitive-property nonsense of the week:
  1. No. 10 UCF (the defending national champions and quite likely THE team of the 21st century) beat FAU by 20, 56-36.
  2. FAU beat Bethune by 28, 49-21.
  3. Thus, UCF is 48 points better than Bethune, and
  4. Given UCF's god-like qualities and roster of all-Americans, Nebraska-Bethune should be a pretty tight matchup.

And Nebraska will beat Ohio State by a touchdown.

If I'm Vedral, I'm not sure I want to play - ever. His legend grows weekly, without ever taking a snap.
